• An Tennessee resident born in Kuwait unleashed a barrage of gunfire at two military facilities Thursday in Chattanooga killing four Marines and wounding two other service members and a police officer. Muhammad Abulazeez was not on law enforcement radar concerning possible terror links.

• After deliberating for a day and a half, a jury has convicted James Holmes on first-degree murder charges for killing 12 people and wounding dozens of others when he opened fire at a Colorado movie theater in 2012. Holmes could get the death penalty for the massacre.

• President Obama made history Thursday when he toured the El Reno Federal Correctional Institution in Oklahoma, becoming the first sitting president to visit a federal penitentiary. He said the U.S. “can’t close our eyes anymore” to inequities in the criminal justice system.

• Vice President Biden is taking a lead role in building Democratic support for the nuclear deal with Iran, meeting with lawmakers in the House and Senate to answer questions and press the administration’s arguments.
