• President Obama signed an executive order granting some benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees yesterday, calling it “a historic step” but promising more action to come.
• The Senate passed by unanimous consent yesterday a bill that would prevent the release of controversial photos of alleged U.S. abuse of prisoners and detainees. After having been stripped from the war funding bill, Senators passed it as a stand-alone proposition.
• Sen. John Ensign (D-NV) has resigned his position in the Senate GOP leadership, a day after admitting to an extramarital affair.
