• President Obama huddled with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao this morning, the final day of his visit to China. The White House praised the meetings as strengthening possibilities for future cooperation. President Obama then toured the Great Wall of China before flying to South Korea.
• Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) declined yesterday to say when he would introduce a hotly anticipated health care reform bill. He said he was waiting for a cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office, and that estimate won’t be completed until at least this afternoon.
• Somali pirates attacked the Maersk Alabama yesterday for the second time but guards on board repelled the takeover attempt.

• President Obama is expected to nominate Ben Bernanke to a second term as head of the Federal Reserve today. Bernanke, a Republican who has played a central role in the government’s extraordinary response to the recession and 2008 banking panic, will have to be confirmed by the Senate.
• The Obama administration launched a criminal investigation yesterday into harsh questioning of detainees during President Bush’s war on terrorism, revealing CIA interrogators’ threats to kill one suspect’s children and to force another to watch his mother sexually assaulted.
• The Los Angeles County coroner’s finding that the death of Michael Jackson was a homicide could mean criminal charges for his doctor, who told investigators that he administered a mix of powerful drugs to treat the pop star’s insomnia hours before his death.
• President Obama played tennis with his wife and golf with his buddies yesterday, starting his first vacation in office on Martha’s Vineyard of the coast of Massachusetts.

•President Obama today will try to take the reins on the debate over national security and rally support for his plan to shutter the military prison at Guantanamo Bay in what his administration is billing as a major address at 7:10am Pacific today. Former Vice President Cheney is expected to give an opposing argument today at 7:45am Pacific.
• Congress wrapped up sweeping credit card legislation yesterday that limits sudden hikes in interest rates, limits who can receive a card, and restricts how much time people are given to pay their bill. The bill now goes to President Obama, who is expected to sign it into law tomorrow.
• ***SPOILER ALERT!!!***After 100 million votes were cast, Arkansas college student Kris Allen is the new American Idol, beating out the more flamboyant Adam Lambert last night.
