President Obama yesterday filled the White House Rose Garden with doctors supportive of his health care overhaul, saying “nobody has more credibility with the American people on this issue than you do.” The Senate Finance Committee is expected to approve its long-debated bill this week.

President Obama will not walk away from the flagging war in Afghanistan, the White House declared yesterday amid intense administration debate over choices that could help define his presidency in the first year as commander in chief.

• David Letterman, days after revealing on air that he’d been sexually involved with women from his show, apologized to his wife on last night’s “Late Show,” saying she had been “horribly hurt by my behavior” and flat-out stating those affairs “are in the past.”

Dems worked to smooth the impact of sweeping health care legislation on working-class families yesterday as they pushed President Obama’s top domestic priority toward a crucial Senate advance. GOP-ers are worried of a potential backlash against the penalty for people who decline to buy insurance.

A CBS News employee is under arrest for trying to extort $2 Million from David Letterman, forcing the late night host to admit in an extraordinary monologue before millions of viewers last night that he had sexual relationships with female employees. The person who was arrested works on the CBS show “48 Hours” and has been suspended.

Iranian authorities agreed yesterday to recount disputed presidential votes as the country faced intensifying unrest in the wake of a claimed victory by incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that opponents say was the result of a rigged ballot. His opponent, Mir Hossein Moussavi, rejected the vote recount, instead calling for a fresh election.

• State radio in Iran reported today that clashes in Tehran left seven people dead during an “unauthorized gathering” at a mass rally over alleged election fraud.

• Health care reform should mean all Americans can get coverage while allowing doctors to heal patients instead of being bureaucrats, President Obama told the American Medical Association yesterday. Obama called an overhaul of the ailing health care system the most important issue for the nation’s long-term economic stability.

On last night’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” Letterman offered a full apology to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her family for the joke he told last week about Alex Rodriguez knocking up her daughter. He said the joke was “beyond flawed,” and that his intent was completely meaningless compared to the perception.
