• New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will declare his presidential candidacy on Tuesday, joining the 13 Republican candidates who have already fixed their sights on the White House in 2016. A poll released earlier this month ranked him at just four percent among GOP primary voters nationwide.

• Captured prison escapee David Sweat is now talking about the duo’s botched plans. Had everything gone as planned, prison escapees David Sweat and Richard Matt would have killed the husband of a prison worker before fleeing with her to Mexico, officials said.

• Banks in Greece stayed shut today as officials scrambled to prevent the country’s financial system from collapsing in panic. The measures were announced Sunday as Greece slid rapidly toward default and exit from the eurozone.

• President Obama gave a somber address yesterday, offering sympathies for the “senseless murders” in Charleston, SC and cautioning against ignoring wider issues of gun violence and race. “Communities like this have had to endure too many tragedies like this too many times,” Mr. Obama said.

• The House is trying again to move President Obama’s trade agenda forward after rejecting it last week. It passed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) Thursday over the opposition of many Democrats.

• Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul unveiled his version of a flat tax on Thursday, proposing to “blow up the tax code and start over “in a Wall Street Journal editorial. He proposes a 14.5% flat tax on individuals and businesses.

• A white man opened fire during a prayer meeting inside a historic black church in downtown Charleston on Wednesday night, killing nine people in an assault that authorities described as a hate crime. The shooter was still at large.

• Amid a national controversy, the City of Spokane said Wednesday that an investigation has found Rachel Dolezal acted inappropriately while serving on the city’s Police Ombudsman Commission. Spokane mayor David Condon has called on Dolezal and two others to resign.

• The Treasury Department has announced that it’s redesigning the $10 bill to feature a woman. The department has yet to determine which woman will be featured on the bill.

• Billionaire businessman and reality television star Donald Trump officially announced his 2016 presidential candidacy on Tuesday with a promise to do for America what he’s always done for himself: nurture the brand. Trump suggested that no other candidate besides him can rescue the country.

• During a visit to South Carolina today, Hillary Clinton will introduce a plan to reduce youth unemployment. The Democratic frontrunner is encouraging businesses to hire apprentices by offering them a tax credit of $1500 per apprentice hired, according to a Clinton campaign aide.

• Rachel Dolezal — fresh off of stepping down as head of the Spokane NAACP chapter over criticism that she’s portrayed herself as black, even though she was born white — stood by that self-assessment Tuesday, insisting, “I identify as black.”

• The Golden State Warriors won their first NBA title since 1975, downing the Cavaliers 105-97 last night in Cleveland. The Warriors won the NBA Finals four games to two, winning the last three contests.

• After six months of aggressive fundraising and speaking to voters in early primary states, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has finally declared that he is running for president in 2016. In a speech that leaned heavily on his record as Florida’s governor, Bush promised an “optimistic” message.

• Reality television star Donald Trump will share details about his personal finances today that reveal a net worth of $9 billion. He will also formally declare his 2016 intentions at an 11am ET announcement.

• The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 last night in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals for their third NHL title in the past six seasons.

• Jeb Bush is ready to launch a GOP presidential bid months in the making today by asserting his commitment to the “most vulnerable in our society,” an approach targeting the broader American electorate even as he faces questions about his policies from conservatives in his own party.

• During her first campaign rally in Iowa, Hillary Clinton gave her most extensive remarks yet on the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal — which she has so far declined to take a hard stance on — and said that President Obama should listen to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on the issue.

• The leader of the Spokane NAACP, Rachel Dolezal, has canceled a chapter meeting for today where she was expected to speak about the furor sparked over her racial identity. Her parents have said the 37-year-old activist has falsely portrayed herself as black for years.

• The two killers who cut their way out of a maximum-security prison apparently used tools routinely stored there by contractors, taking care to return them to their toolboxes after each night’s work so that no one would notice, a prosecutor said Sunday.

• After decades in the spotlight, Hillary Clinton this Saturday in New York City will use her first major address as a 2016 presidential candidate to re-introduce herself to voters, explaining how her personal story has driven her career aims of helping children and middle class families.

• Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Thursday that his views have “evolved” since writing a 1995 book in which he claimed that lack of shame led to a rise in women giving birth out of wedlock and single men shirking their parental duties.

• Although President Obama recently approved a plan to send an additional 450 U.S. troops to Iraq, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno downplayed the notion that it represents a strategy shift. “I don’t think it’s a new strategy … because we’re continuing to execute the strategy that we have,” said Odierno.

• Before he plunged a plane into the French Alps, Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz feared he was going blind and went to see dozens of doctors, a French prosecutor said Thursday. In the month leading up to the crash, Lubitz consulted doctors seven times, including three visits to a psychiatrist.

• Eric Casebolt, the former McKinney cop seen in a now-viral video pinning a bikini-clad teenage girl to the ground and pulling a gun on unarmed teens at a pool party, was already stressed out when he got that fateful call, his lawyer said Wednesday. “He allowed his emotions to get the better of him,” she said.

• A Texas police officer has resigned, days after cell phone video of him violently restraining a young girl and drawing his weapon on unarmed teens at a pool party went viral. The McKinney, TX Police chief confirmed the officer resigned while under investigation.

• Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert pleaded not guilty yesterday to 2 charges related to his alleged efforts to conceal sexual misconduct. Hastert was indicted last month and charged with violating federal banking laws and lying to FBI investigators.

• In a major shift of focus in the battle against the Islamic State, the Obama administration is planning to establish a new military base in Anbar Province and send 400 American military trainers to help Iraqi forces retake the city of Ramadi.
