Four-year-old Abby Evans, the little Colorado girl who started crying when she heard the name “Mitt Romney” (I cry, too, sweetie), and “Bronco Bama” come on the radio AGAIN, summing up how we’re all feeling about this election: “Why can’t it just be over?!”
The answer is that in five days it will be, and Mama wants you to vote like your life depends on it — because it does. The war on women can’t end with women losing. The Koch brothers can’t be allowed to light fat cigars with $1,000 bills. And we can’t risk Donald Trump becoming secretary of Labor.
So get OUT THERE for the next five days — even if you don’t live in a swing state — and get everyone you know (even those 5,000 “friends” you claim to have on Facebook) to cast an early ballot or stand in line for as long as it takes on Election Day. It’s not enough just to win a narrow victory by carrying Ohio or Florida — the president needs to have more votes than Mittens so that Faux and Friends can’t say his victory wasn’t “legitimate.”
I’ve been saying for months that this really is the most important election of my lifetime, and for once, I’m not joking. YES, WE CAN WIN. But not without you.
And if just saving the country and the Constitution from absolute ruin isn’t enough for you to get up off your fat … couch, remember what Aisha Tyler says about President Obama: “He smells like cookies and freedom.”
That should even make Abby smile!
