Frankly, in the spirit of the Preamble and as elaborated by Lincoln closing his Gettysburg address "We the People" are the government, electing legislators to conduct governance in our names, sometimes we must take back words, co-opted, distorted and maligned.

and btw, Congress represents THE PEOPLE in the in constitution as the THIRD BRANCH of government. We the people are the THIRD BRANCH, and we are not being represented.

Maybe caller Justin's last name is really.... Bieber! And he was probably eating a Twiglet, as immortalized by Steph's beloved YouTube troubadour, Parry Gripp:

I used to love it when Marc Maron finished up his "Morning Sedition" morning show on Air America back in 2004 with the day's talking points faxed straight from the Barbra Streisand compound - they were written by mordantly funny Jim Earl and other Daily Show veterans and were hi-larious :-)

gforce1 5 pts

I agree with caller - so what if there are many messages out there! There are a lot of issues - Justin!

In response to the the violence, Oakland has called for a general strike November 2, I live in Orange County and resist at Occupy Irvine, We have amazing latitude both here and LA having gained official sanction by majority votes of the respective councils, who will join this call to be militant in peaceful protest, hands at our sides simply refusing to participate in our producer function for a day, who will join this call to resist tyranny?

gforce1 5 pts

How ironic that a vet would serve in Iraq, come home safe and then be injured at home in a protest.

Thank you for that regulations story! Every time I hear conservatives argue that companies are sitting on all these profits and not hiring because of onerous regulations I wish someone just one time would compare how "onerous" they are now compared to the nineties when economic growth was high and unemployment low. But they never do!

It comes back to a story I heard awhile back when a journalist asked someone on Wall Street how Obama could be considered "anti-business" when stocks and corporate profits have soared since he took office. The answer was, yeah, we know. But we want more, and if we keep saying he's anti-business he'll feel compelled to keep throwing things our way. It's just a big ruse.

Wow, new blog layout and nice to see more folks here again. The u-stream is fun to watch but hard to catch all the comments!

beckyscent 5 pts

I agree that these callers are right wing plants -- they both had the same talking point: there are too many factions, and they both claim that they went to the protest, the one guy said he was a veteran. This talking point is the right's attempt to discredit the Occupy movement, which is very clear. Those callers just kept repeating their own talking points no matter what Stephanie or Chris said -- call them out on it guys!

juliet bravo 26 pts

Well, Livefyre is back to its old tricks livefrying all my comments :-(

I agree with the caller that there the Occupy protesters are somewhat motley and mixed up, the drum circles irritate a lot of people, and not everyone shops at the Gap. Still, they are making an impressive effort to remain peaceful, democratic and tidy - the Anti-Woodstock, if you will (Zuccotti Park is now the cleanest park in New York). And don't forget plenty of those folks are undercover NYPD.

The message on this sign is pretty clear: "The duty of youth is to challenge corruption - Kurt Cobain"

Kind of like Rachel Maddow's segment last night on the Wisconsin legislature's lack of a singular message. It was called back into a special session to focus on jobs, jobs, jobs but has up to now only voted on stripping sex ed, honoring adoption, and redefining bicycles. What an undisciplined mob!

juliet bravo 26 pts

KAK1958 Great segment, I saw that last night and as a result found myself in the unlikely position of defending the power of Twitter in an argument, er, spirited discussion, with my kids.

Aw, sheeet, NOT ANOTHER ONE (caller!)

juliet bravo 26 pts

Our fake rightwing troll did a more credible job than "Justin".

And now for the Trololololo singalong!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z4m4lnjxkY

juliet bravo 26 pts

I agree about caller "Justin", Dannybob - you can almost write the script: "I'm a veteran", etc. I wish Steph or the Mooks would quickly fire back, "Really? Which branch? What's your [appropriate division] ? Where did you serve?" - bet they skimped on the research and couldn't answer.

Same for putative "small business owners" who pretend not to know the difference between gross earnings and net earnings - What's your business? What do you do/sell? Where are you located? How long have you been in business? There's no way they can answer rapid-fire questions from their scripts that anyone who runs their own business could answer without thinking.

Meanwhile, the people who are really putting themselves on the line are the real veterans being injured at protests (Oakland) and people who are serving now, like Gabby's son (please thank him for his service), not armchair warhawks.

*CAF* 5 pts

This movement represents a little bit of everything. For the people wailing that they don’t have a single message, that’s the point. There are a lot of different problems and people have just had enough of all of it.
Remember Dubya’s famous statement, “We're fighting them there, so we don't have to fight them here?” Now the cops are fighting fellow Americans here. Well done Republicans, well done.

Dannybob 6 pts

Of course "Justin" was a RW-sponsored plant. I wish Stephanie would just cut the moth******ers off at the legs instead of letting them continue to spew their bullsh**.

And why does this damned chat keep saying there's an error when I post, but the post shows up on refresh?

juliet bravo 26 pts

MikeTheLiberal

Hi Mike - just ignore the error message and keep refreshing until your comment shows up. I don't honestly know if that's the ticket or there's a time delay. Meanwhile, your comments will be busy traversing cyberspace and lodging in fellow (active?) liveblogger's e-mail inboxes.

I haven't heard back from the Livefyre folks after my last e-mail but they have been generally responsive to my e-mails the last few days. Today at least my comments are going up quickly, but I'm still getting (some, not all) comments in my e-mail inbox.

MikeTheLiberal 6 pts

Justin sounds like a plant; who in the 99% or the OWS movement are talking about abortion?

My son (an active duty marine) and I are both running for president. Everyone should throw their hats in the republican ring. There are a lot of months to be flavors of between now and november 2012, and NO ONE wants Santorum to be flavor of the month.

Good morning, Dannybob, Gabby and livefyrebloggers!

Yes, that caller (Jim in Illinois)bugged me too - like I said yesterday, college tuition has been increasing by 8-10% per year, so the loans these kids are carrying are astronomically higher than we had in our feckless youth (my entire grad school tuition bill would barely pay for a semester of college today).

As for his landlord-tenant woes - two words, summary process. There's only one cardinal sin a tenant can commit, and that's not pay rent. You can party hardy and sacrifice goats as long as you pay the rent, otherwise your stuff's on the sidewalk in 2 months max, not "a year" (unless you have incompetent counsel because you are representing yourself).

gabbyHusseinHayes 9 pts

juliet bravo party HEARTY. Hardy is the first word in "hardy har har."

juliet bravo 26 pts

gabbyHusseinHayes I stand corrected. Still, if you're partying at that level you probably can't tell the difference LOL

Run up your debts as high as your creditors will allow, then pull your pockets inside out, have a friend take a picture of you, and send it to your creditors with a note telling them they made a huge mistake loaning money to a person who had no intention of paying it. Disappear for seven years under an assumed name. My assumed name will be Norm D. Ploom.
