Charlie Pierce (Idiot America, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me) calls in at 10:30am ET / 7:30am PT to talk about the news of the day

Jennifer Palmeri, President of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, calls in at 11:30am ET / 8:30am PT to talk about the National Clean Energy Summit

Almost a dozen New England towns were rendered virtual islands in the wake of Hurricane Irene Monday as floodwaters reshaped parts of Vermont and upstate New York, turning placid rivers into raging torrents and some streets into treacherous mud bogs. Hundreds of roads remained closed, dozens of bridges were gone.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry offered the broad outlines of his foreign policy philosophy at an annual gathering of veterans Monday, telling attendees that he opposes “military adventurism” while also advocating for “taking the fight to the enemy” and decrying indecision by “multi-lateral debating societies” at times of international crisis.

Rick Perry now leads in a new CNN/Opinion Research poll 32%-18% over Mitt Romney. Rep. Michele Bachmann is third with 12%. No one else cracks double digits. Newt Gingrich pulls in 7%, Rep. Ron Paul 6%, Herman Cain 3%, Gary Johnson 2%, Jon Huntsman, Rick Santorum, and Thaddeus McCotter all at 1%.

Bye Mike, somebody, everybody, see y'all tomorrow!

the economy will grow when the bankers get the president they want and let loose the cash they're sitting on.same with the CEO's.

I guess you COULD invite Botchmann to the clean energy conference, she might actually learn something. Get some new slogans rattling around in that big empty head of hers!

Sam Seder has a great interview this week with Rick Perelstein, author of "Nixonland", about whether President Obama, who is reportedly reading same, is getting the right message out of that particularly divisive period of American politics.

Rick's take is similar to what David Bender is saying, which is that the key turning point was Edmund Muskie's speech reiterating core populist Democratic values to counter Nixon's cultural attack on the left's dirty effin' hippies (and dividing the democrats between blue collar union types and civil rights marchers). The speech energized the Democrats to sweep the 1970 midterm election.

Today all you have to do is look at the farmers and cops marching side by side with college kids and environmentalists in Madison, WI to see we are in an even stronger position to repel the rightwing cultural attacks. We just have to pull together.

The interview is on both Ring of Fire and on the free first hour of the Majority Report:

35. Be fun to do a rave shave on the dude.

#32: Is the tattooed number of the beast hidden under that good hair?

Hey, let's all register as Republicans and write in Molly Ivins in the primary.Or in open primary states, wouldn't even need to change to Thug.

"Mon-doo?" Well, if it rhymes with fondue that must be how you say it.

Perry is the anti-Christ, just you wait.

#6: Best of luck Mark! You can do it! Hope you meet a nice girl at the meeting.

Little-Known Steph-Phackt: Momma is revered
in France. She is known as "She of the
Spectacular Ass" or "She who'se Ass MUST
be adored", or "Mamman de la Derriere
INCROYABLE!". She was also the model for
the Statue of Liberty, which was made in
France, and is French, and gay. And has a
Spectacular Ass, under her robes. Just look.

OK, gotta run out here. Have a grate aftershow!

#26 Mark DBOP in DT

Michele Bachmann ain't real smart.

23 Deetwoit is actually rated as one of the
nicest & most polite cities anywhere. You
never know who is packing, that's why. We're
very polite here. Actually, it's a big hearted
town. Down to earth. Working people. Decent
people. Not like the scumbag rethug Dutch
Reformed Calvinist know-it-all better-than-thou
Grand Rapids west-side-of-the-State Conservative
ASSHOLES that put that evil little git L'il
Ricky Snyder in power here in this poor beaten
down horrible depressed State, where he can
continue to beat us into the ground and reward
his Rethug Bastard cronies... but don't get me
started. I have no small hates.

26. Awwwww.So touching.

9 thanks JB,R, I'm back... fer a minute.

Momma SoDamnLucky that a fan found her
license here in Deetown... it might have
been some scumbag Rethug bastard who would
have stolen her identity and done whoknowswhat
with it.

OK, OK, I admit it, I took her license. I just
wanted a picture of her to keep on my bedside
table. Then I felt bad because she needed it
to go to France and be French & gay with. Sorry
about the smudges on it, Momma

#24: Nothing against Cleveland! But on the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.

Morning all...

Thank goodness for TMZ, keeping us informed about what people we might have seen on TV are up to in Cleveland... :-/

Hiya, Klassie, KAK1958 et al!

Of course a fan found Stephie's driver's license at Detroit-Wayne Metro Airport and is returning it - that's midwestern nice for ya!

It was only last week that I finally got the double entendre suggested by the name "Itchy Kitty".

Does that make me slow?

Ashville audience should all show up nude to take the attention off poor Steph. Mom will probably teach everyone naked headstands.

God created science, OKAY?

If insurance companies did storm forecasting, there would be a disaster predicted every day. Better enhance your policies!

So many Americans fail to understand, to our ultimate detriment, the actual beliefs of the Fundamentalist Christian. And that is, for most intents and purposes, Jesus is one and the same as God is one and the same as the Holy Spirit. The separate nature of the Trinity is asserted when it supports the current argument, but, the Exact Same ideological trick is used to assert the God/Jesus/Spirit as One Being whenever it is "appropriate". So much so that a typical fundamentalist is able to switch back and forth at will, or even, without thinking.

Bachman's statement is not an error, nor a fringe belief. It is mainstream fundamentalism, and you will find more Protestants who find little or no problem with what she said than those that would.

Let me put it this way, which I heard in an argument with a young fundamentalist a short time ago, and, this is important, I was not at all surprised to hear:

- Jesus is the author of the entire Bible, therefore, saying that Jesus never said anything about "X" can be immediately refuted by quoting ANY Bible passage, Old or New. God wrote the Bible, Jesus is God and God is Jesus.

It is not crazy talk, except in as much as the forces that help put Right-Wing Christians into high positions of power in our country are "just crazy talk".

We need to educate non-religious Americans about Fundamentalism, which is rapidly bleeding and becoming mainstream.

Meanwhile, there's a slew of traffic tickets waiting for you in Detroit, Mama.

Can't wait for the Palin chopper to start buzzing Bachmann rallies.

Mittens needs to wear earth colors like Perry

Why...does...Perry...talk...so...slowly...

Love the jingles. But ever since the show played Baby Monkey again last week, my ear worm is now reactivated for that one. However, now I find myself yearning for a version in which the words "Baby Monkey" would be replaced with Marcus Bachmann. After all, it does contain "the world has gone insane." That fits the Bachmann campaign, doesn't it? I await the creativity.

Actually, the beginning of the Gospel of John attributes the creation, at least in part, to "the Word", which is Jesus as far as I understand it. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being."
This is reiterated in the Nicene Creed, which asserts that "We believe ... in one Lord Jesus Christ ... by whom all things were made ..."

Morning liveblog! RWW is starting to feel like a bad Fellini film - REALLY bad.

Hi Mark DBOP in Deetown!
Bye Mark DBOP in Deetown!
Good luck!

Love Jim Ward's Joe Lieberman

Good morning Dannybob, Flaming Lib et al !

Still cleaning up here in New England, with the sound of chainsaws everywhere. We still have large trees and wires down on the side roads. The parking lot next to the beach IS the beach, with 6-18" of sand right up to the road. Trains and subway have started running, but there are still cancellations and delays. No school for the kiddies yet. Rivers have crested and are starting to fall, but half the region still lacks power and won't have it for a week.

OK, gotta go do a thing. By which I mean, go to
an AA meeting, since I'm a horrible, horrible
alcoholic misanthrope misfit curmudgeon... which
will prolly be my new screen name next week.
See you soon, talk quietly amongst yerselfs...

Rethug douchebaggery has damned & doomed us all.
