The Rude Pundit calls in at 9:30am ET / 6:30am PT to talk about Hurricane Irene, New York, and smacking Marco Rubio with a history stick

Jim Fish, Executive Director of the National Association of Professional Allstate Agents, calls in at 10:30am ET / 7:30am PT to talk about successful unionization efforts despite GOP’s efforts to destroy these rights

Edie McClurg joins us in the Los Angeles Bureau at 11am ET / 8am PT for another edition of Mondays With McClurg

Downgraded from a hurricane as it lumbered up the coast Sunday, Irene left millions without power across much of the Eastern Seaboard, was blamed for at least 21 deaths and forced airlines to cancel about 12,000 flights . Authorities warned of possibly disastrous flooding in the days ahead, with Vermont’s governor saying his state was facing “a full-blown flooding catastrophe.”

After a speech Friday, Ron Paul slammed the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, and said that no national response to Hurricane Irene is necessary. “There’s no magic about FEMA. They’re a great contribution to deficit financing and quite frankly they don’t have a penny in the bank,” Paul said.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday dismissed as “cheap shots” the criticism leveled at him and others in Vice President Dick Cheney’s memoir. It was the latest volley in a clash that stretches back to their first years in the George W. Bush administration.

bye, all.

Marbles just pass through; they're made of glass and are round.

Swedes are into suffering, Steph. They beat themselves with branches and plunge into ice-water and saunas for fun!

Farting is encouraged in the Eskimo community.

I just discovered the Stephanie Miller Show. She's my new favorite person in the world. That is all.

50: And, it's just not men who have Adam's apples and superfluous nipples.

The Know Nothings - an anti-immigrant party.

Man Coulter is proof that Darwin or God or whoever has a sense of humor and irony.

Mama, why don't you break up Brad and Angelina to get some real pub?

The dog in the movie "The Beginners" has one line that says "I can understand over 150 words but I can't talk". His lines in the movie are subtitles. Think what Max and Fred would say!

Steph in the tabloids. I gotta get some popcorn for this one.

45: Brain bleach please!

hey there's a bunch of gay Republicans in the penalty box taking pictures of their junk!

suddenly I have the urge to purge.

skating...

39: Oh the French and Russians were actually just trying to free our slaves.

#30 gforce, Yup, we're a nation of selfish people. Ironically, that was the criticism leveled by the Greatest Generation against the dirty effin' hippies, that they were lazy and selfish. Go figure.

#38 playin the hits... :-)

37: Jobs are so yesterday.

#33 - yup. It's time for the revolt. You know what happens when people are pushed too hard for too long. For some reason they do not observe history. Oh wait. That's because it deals with facts!

#35 Klassie

Wow, President Obama was just gave a press conference which was carried by the major NYC station I was listening to (Steph is no longer on the radio here).

After a couple of sentences about Irene, the President began to to talk about jobs. The station cut away, saying, the president's talking about jobs , if he talks about the storm we'll go back to the press conference. Wow.

NYC is certainly feeling the effects of the storm, and there is no subway or train service today. But in terms of property damage and loss of life, it totally dodged the bullet. I'd be suspicious even if the MSM news hadn't done the exact same thing to a speech by Nancy Pelosi a couple of months ago.

Well they wanted Obama to be aqua Buddha and repair the leak in the gulf, so gee why couldn't he detect the earthquake and then stop the storms?

Bush broke his FEMA - YAAAAH. Then he got on da chopper.

30: Yep, the wealthy are our royalty controlling most of the wealth and government, with the Congress as the "Lords," getting the largess the royalty gives them, with the rest of us the serfs fighting over the crumbs and fighting their wars when needed. Personally, I'm ready to grab my pitch fork.

Now she won't be able to vote in some states.

you don't want to see our bitch-faces and bed hair and old housecoats do you Steph?

#27 - I know, it's the hypocrisy of it all. These are the same folks that want to take away programs we pay into while enjoying their tax payer provided benefits. What are they willing to give up? Nothing. These people say they hate government or big government but they can't wait to become a part of it because they know their salary, their medical, their retirements are all taken care of.

LOL - Mike in Raleigh.

25: Why don't we just bring back feudalism, at least it would be more honest than the faux-democracy they (Republicans) represent.

22: Yep. We are becoming an Oligarchy (if not there already) with the Republicans carrying the water for powerful business interest and the 400 some families that control most of the wealth in this country. Yet, the GOP has managed to dupe a large enough portion of the population into thinking they represent their interest. Soon enough, it'll be hard to differentiate us from Mexico - at least we won't need to build a wall then.

Michele Bachman (and all of the tea party folks) are so willing to bend over and give the corporate masters whatever they want.

As they say, not every conservative is stupid, but every stupid person is a conservative.

it was that family picture of the Boehners that did it, Steph.

love the picture on Gawker.gotta give him credit for holding the camera to get just the right angle.

#10, 12 Proud Secular Progressive, I hear ya. They aren't even stupid, it's absolutely a deliberate strategy to cause as much economic pain as possible.

What worries me is that, of course the rightwingers are right, the rich do invest all that extra money and ARE job creators - in Asia and other markets, not ours. I had hoped those companies who rely on the US consumers to buy their products would notice that if US consumers don't have jobs, they can't buy their crap, and worried that said companies would just shift their markets to people who do have money to buy their crap, i.e. people in Asia who have the jobs shipped out of the US. Unfortunately, that seems to be happening, as corporations declare cheerily that they are now marketing to those folks, as if it represents an expansion of their customer base instead of just shifting it elsewhere. It's reverse Fordism. Just total dumbasses.

Is there any better illustration that money/the economy is just the circulation of puka shells or whatever Pacific Islanders used for money? John Maynard Keynes' famous illustration was paying a man to dig a ditch, and paying another man to fill it up as legitimately adding to the economy.

Austerity, cutting deficits, and all that twaddle is just stopping that process and literally constipating the economy. Saying the US economy is like a family sitting around their kitchen table balancing their checkbook is only true if your family is the Manson Family, and doesn't care if you starve.

15 privatize EVERYTHING and let the Billionaires
just own us all outright... why not? they almost
do already

Is bitch-face Eric's district still getting funding for that Joint Strike Fighter that the military didn't want or need? Perhaps that's where he could start implementing his "we need to cut first" policy.

BREAKING:Gov Chris Christie has been deployed in the Jersey streets to sit and soak up water in his gigantic sponge-like body.

Link to article on Cantor and payroll tax break elimination.

Hey, middle class voters who vote Republican. Read this and tell me how the eff you think the Republican party represents the interest of the people - you stupid sh%$@s.

Stephy is going to vacation en Franche... where
she's known as "Mamman de la Derriere INCROYABLE!"

so French & gay

They didn't meet FEMA standards Ron because they were loaded with formaldyde dumb s--t.

Ron Paul wants to end FEMA so that it can be privitzed and then they can make some $$

13 that would be so cool

I have an iPod Touch and lurve it - just tap on the camera icon, then tap on the "camera roll" button in the lower left corner, it will be stored there.

Wish I had Jim Ward doing his Mick Jagger impression on my iPod!

Oh, and I love how one Republican said the 2% payroll tax break is not stimulative. Hey, dumb sh%#@, putting money into the pockets of the poor and middle class gets funneled right back into the economy - of course it is stimulative. Putting money in the pockets of the rich simply gets put into their investments, which tend to be only taxed at 15%. Hum, middle school math, which one do I think is going to have a better impact on the economy?

Kudos to Shane-O, Danielle and Mike in Raleigh for the amazing promos and mash-ups - keep 'em coming!

Cantor (and other Republicans) want to let the 2% paryoll tax lapse at the end of the year - saying it would be fiscall irresponsible to continue it. Yet, they can't let the 2% tax break for wealthy people lapse. This is the proof the Republicans don't care about working people. The Democrats need to hammer on this over and over and over!!!

ar·thro·pod   /ˈɑrθrəˌpɒd/ Show Spelled[ahr-thruh-pod] noun - any invertebrate of the phylum Arthropoda, having a segmented body, jointed limbs, and usually a chitinous shell that undergoes moltings, including the insects, spiders and other arachnids, crustaceans, and myriapods.
