Hal Sparks calls in from London today for a telephone version of “Humpdays With Hal”

Karl Frisch, contributor to Media Matters for America, calls in at 10:05am ET / 7:05am PT to co-host Right Wing World

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis calls in at 11:20am ET / 8:20am PT to talk about Labor Day and what the Obama administration is doing to put people back to work

President Obama made it official Tuesday: Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the nation’s No. 1 priority is fixing the economy. “The end of our combat mission in Iraq” comes at “a time of great uncertainty for many Americans,” Obama said in a nationally televised address from the Oval Office.

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski conceded the election in the Alaska Republican primary Tuesday to a little-known conservative lawyer backed by former governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

President Obama is opening a new round of Mideast peacemaking, bringing Israeli and Palestinian leaders together Wednesday for talks aimed at forging an agreement within one year on a two-state solution: a sovereign Palestine and a secure Israel.

• Thousands of people were told to evacuate a North Carolina island and a hurricane watch was issued for Virginia Wednesday morning as Earl weakened but still threatened to sideswipe the East Coast.

266 yes yes The CIA are the guys, or one of those alphabet soups.
You know me: full blown conspiracy nut, just like James Ward.

it was probably a test of the tsa scanners to see who would let them go through. the fact that they weren't flying "together" is no solace--they could send two missions on the same plane. Both got through. Or are you suggesting that the intention was for the cia to test the waters to see if THEY could bomb a plane out of the sky?

264 yeah, but BOX CUTTERS!?!? can you say RED FLAG

or should I say "False Flag"

it was checked baggage. how were they supposed to access the box cutters?

262 Marcus, AIRBORNE! Ft Hood gotta be freaking hot this time of year.

Special Operations and Advisory and Assistance Brigades vs. Special Operations and Brigade COMBAT Teams. Same people, doing the same mission, under different name.

OK so the two Yemeni gentlemen detained this week in Amsterdam
after they checked unaccompanied luggage containing box cutters,
razor blades, taped-together watches, and a pepto-bismal bottle
with a cell phone taped to it were not terrorists. So says the US
Department of Homeland Security, which is well known in the
past for crowing about so-called "Terror Threats" any time it
gets the chance. Wait a minute... WTF????

US airport authorities say the suspicious items in the luggage
were not deemed dangerous when they were seen on x-rays
in the US prior to the flight. But the US then asked the Dutch
to detain the pair when they arrived in Europe.

Folks, this was a dry run for a terror attack. We are within
two weeks of September the 11th. I don't care what you
try to tell me, the cell phone taped to the pepto-bismal
bottle is a dummy bomb, designed to test the response.
That together with box-cutters!? And the normally rabidly
fear-mongering Homeland Security creeps say it was not
a threat? Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. The
only explanation I'm buying is this: it WAS a dry run for
a terror bombing, and the US authorities WANTED it to
go through, Marinus Van Der Lubbe. Buy a freaking clew.

Have a great day, everyone!

256 counter terror is the worst kind of combat. Guerrilla War, where
you don't get to be the guerilla, but the target. You are right though.
This whole bullS#$T "war on terror", insomuch as there ever really
was one, should have been fought by police and spy agencies, never
by combat infantry. They are for something completely different.

#245: "Nowhere Boy", new film about the young John Lennon, coming soon. Seen the trailer four times, hatin' it. By-the-numbers, Hollywood biog-dreck.

Well, I guess this is goodbye:

Goodbye.

232 233 236

Bilderbergers, Bohemian Grovers, Council of Foreign Relations,
Skull n'Bones Club... they're all creeps. The worst kind of creeps.
Elite Skum making descisions for the rest of us, behind closed
doors... while they entertain each other with new variations on
old perversions... I don't know. What do you have to do for kicks
when you're so damned jaded Genocide is just old hat to you???

combat is different from counter terror.
the army is for combat. civilian forces are for counter terror.

Paul Krugman has had a rod up his butt as Obama didn't ask him to join his admin and engaged his nemesis Larry Summers. Economists can be so petty. That's why they call economics the "dismal science."

#251 - Sadly, no. The only KitH sketch I remember is Ass Pennies.

#247 - But combat operations are different from counter-terror operations? We're not done in iraq by a long shot... But I don't remember anyone saying that. Just that combat operations are over.

remember the kids in the hall sketch when the woman driving a car was informed by the police that "the phone call is coming from inside your car!"

so she stops and opens the trunk.

Who was Jim reading?

So give Obama a Rethug congress and see how he likes it.

241 243 Nice rebranding of the occupation to pretend we are withdrawing.
We never leave, like the herpes. 50,000 troops in 94 bases conducting
"counter-terror" operations is not leaving. Leaving is leaving. Dumbass
liars can't even get their story straight. Who are you fooling? Besides
yourselves, I mean. The troops damned sure ain't fooled.

that's what the surge was--a surge of weapons and money to the warring factions in iraq to cease fire so we could leave.

Nowhere man please listen
you don't know what your missing
nowhere man the world is at your command!
He's a real nowhere man
sitting in his nowhere land
making all his nowhere plans for nobody.

#242 DnDer
I remember that as well. She was trying to update the Bikini graph. LOL

241. YES. It was a big pay-out to Iraqi's to stop fighting so it would look good. Zackly.

Who saw Rachel when she was trying to velcro up graphs, and they just wouldn't stick, and she had to get a stagehand?

Awkward, but funny, too.

The surge did NOT work.

It was supposed to allow a stable Iraqi government to form and start running the country and establishing order. It DID NOT. By its own standards of success, it was a failure.

There was less violence beginning at the time of the surge, but that was because the U.S. started paying (bribing?) people to not be violent.

#237 How did you get so klassie? Where did everyone go?

corporate news is trying to make people forget the Bush years.

And the liveblog... slows... to a crawl...

#233 - I'd to a a bilderberger, as long as they still let me cook it medium rare before I get to pick my toppings.

#231: Hope you're right, but it probably wouldn't be the first time a US corporation closed a stateside plant and opened a new one offshore with taxpayer dollars.

#227 I see said the blind man to his deaf wife!

232. it's spelled Bilderberger, BTW

The builderbergers had a big convention right before the election in maryland and obama attended that gathering of freeking plicks.

#229: Not gonna happen.

Cash-strapped GM has too much infrastructure in the U.S. to try and rebuild the entire company in another country.

It starts when they get home but good luck trying to get into the mental health programs.

The guy in the picture is my wife's boss' boss.

#31: "I heard yesterday that now that general motors is now solvent they might relocate to another country to make their cars."

Maybe ask her to comment on this? Jobs being offshored?

#220

Once upon a moonlit night,
two dead boys got up to fight.

Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.

A deaf policeman heard the noise
and came to kill those two dead boys.

If you don't believe my lie is true,
Ask the blind man, she saw it too.

We've created nearly a million living veterans of these two conflicts, and we are creating more everyday. People of the US can't forget there is now a lifetime obligation to many of these people.

"Fair and balanced"? Oh dear.

#221 This is no victory for obama he has turned his back on the very people who elected him to do somthing about the previous administration. He don't care about us he caters to the builderbergers. Google it. builderbergers.

Just because the "war" is over doesn't mean it's all OK.

Families and workers ARE the people of this country, if you hadn't noticed.

thank goodness for Steph and I wish Hal was here today. Very difficult to find positive media to encourage joy in President Obama's successes. Some things are good!

Three six nine the goose drank wine the monkey chewed tobacco on the streetcar line the line broke the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat!

#198: There was a great industrial band in the eighties called "Tools You Can Trust."

The moon is in last quarter. Why is Mama getting full moon calls?
