John Fugelsang joins Steph in the NYC Bureau at 6am Pacific for all three hours of “Fridays With Fugelsang.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) calls in at 6:30am Pacific to talk about her recent trip to Haiti.

• Economist Christian Weller calls in at 7:05am Pacific to break down the President’s proposals in his State of the Union address.

• As a jazz band played, President Barack Obama Thursday told Floridians that they were due to get $1.25 billion to construct a high-speed train line between Tampa and Orlando — a hefty share of an $8 billion pot of federal money to create jobs for the struggling American economy.

• Trying to bury a year of polarization, President Barack Obama on Thursday escalated his appeal for politicians and voters alike to settle differences without tearing each other apart. His plea: “Let’s start thinking of each other as Americans first.”

• Former Prime Minister Tony Blair acknowledged Friday that Saddam Hussein didn’t become a bigger threat after Sept. 11, but said his perception of the risk posed by terrorists acquiring weapons of mass destruction was dramatically changed by the attacks. Blair told Britain’s Iraq Inquiry that his contentious decision to back the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was inspired by fears of another, even deadlier, terror attack.

• At the end of last year, the economy likely grew for the second straight quarter — possibly at the fastest pace in nearly four years.

#365,

my appreciation of "facts" and "logic" proposed by the right wing ended 30 years ago with the introduction of supply side economics as the "silver bullet" for the cure of all our ills.

The gravitating of the Soviet Union towards the building of an elite and the subjugation of the populous led to its demise and it is the same fate that the rampant Capitalism of the US has also wrought. Both monolithic ideologies have failed, and failed miserably.

The reason why the word "lawyers" sounds close to the word "liars" might be a coincidence, but given their prevalence in Congress and the presence of at least two members (liars) on the SCOTUS; I am rapidly approaching the opinion that they consider themselves above the law with regard to their contempt of it - both law makers and the defenders of the US Constitution.

When a society appoints perjurers to the highest institutions of the land then it really doesn't matter whether they are a member of the Polit Bureau or Republican members of Congress or the Supreme Court of the United States.

To penepope2 # 366,

I was involved in the green games in the 1980's and I was elected as a student representative and later as a local council member as a member of the "Reallo Faction" of the "Gruene Partei" (such as Joschka Fischer, who I knew long before he ever got elected) and I got a lot of shit for not being a "true believer" of the "true" Green agenda.

In this regard I have a hell of a lot of sympathy with President Obama. He has to eat a lot of shit sandwiches to get HIS ideologues to agree to something that really needs to be done as opposed to what his "supporters" want to be done today if not yesterday and if not done tomorrow they will pick up their marbles and throw themselves on the floor and hold their breath until they turn blue - because that worked so well with their mum and dad (not).

My country of German took on a third of their population which were effectively at the level of economic development of the 1950's when our wall fell.

We have a joke in Germany about a father driving through a safari park and his son comments on seeing one lion licking the ass of another one. The son says, "Daddy are those lions having sex?". The father replies, "No, the one lion has just eaten an "Ossie" (what the Germans call those who belonged to the GDR) and is trying to get rid of the bad taste in his mouth". It is somewhat akin to what you yanks call the "Reconstruction".

And I will be honest, I am a citizen of the BRD and I will probably never accept someone of my own age (50 years old) as an equal who grew up in the DDR. That does not mean that I will not fight to my death to defend their right as a citizen of my country - even though I would do it does not mean that I have to like it.

For me Americans have shown themselves to be snivelling cowards. As a civilian I had a bomb go off about 80 meters away from me in Bonn and as a part of the military (equivalent rank of "Master Seargeant") I had some close shaves - I did not die and others were not that lucky.

For liberals concerned about the Obama energy suggestions of expanding offshore drilling, clean coal and nuclear power, be assured its all pretty green. Details will likely emerge later on these policies but I do know the following: offshore sites that were closed off several decades ago because the oil was too deep to pump are likely going to be reopened and pumped using new, safer technology. There are many such sites and if anything, they relieve the desire to open new wilderness areas for oil production. Clean coal refers to dirty burning coal where the toxic emmissions are captured and pumped into either storage in limestone rock or pumped into an algae-production facility to make jet fuel. Algae thrives on CO2 and the other toxic gases. Nuclear power plants in the future will be run on thorium, not uranium and there will be no radiactive waste to dispose of, it all gets burned in the process. Google India thorium nuclear power or Australia thorium nuclear power to get more information on this exciting change in nuclear power. India expects to produce 25% of its future energy needs on this type of power and several plants go online in India this year. The rest of the world is way ahead of us. Obama has a good energy policy developing---take a look at his/Steve Chu's ideas and you will be impressed.

Nec_V20's response is typical of the closed-minded liberals who disregard facts, logic, and empiricism when it doesn't support their world view.

For those liberals who are independent thinking and open-minded, please reference the links in the following website -- do not read the commentary, which is Christian-based and no doubt you don't agree with -- however, the data and research is sound and objective (many from gay advocacy groups and liberal NGO's):

A "moran" joins us just in time to say goodbye.

Eddie from Michigan, the caller who was vilified by the intolerant and ignorant Stephanie and her staff of Nazis who refuse to listen to opposing views even when backed by fact, logic, and empiricism.

Note that the following website, while Christian based, merely presents research from objective, academic, and reliable sources on the real health risks associated with homosexual behavior.

Fugelsang - official poet laureate of SMS. Good weekend everyone.

I'll say it again... I don't care about the private sex lives of politicians.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Yay, John!

Have an awesome weekend, everybody!

Send the trials to Oklahoma so Inhofe will be tied up for awhile.

Well, Bloggonists, I'm wishing you a happy weekend!

God bless, don't you guys ever change!

L.

Hey Producer Chris, there's a rumor that there are nekkid photos of JWoww being shopped around the internet, coming soon to a computer monitor near you.

346,

you're never too old to suck new eggs.

It's what separates techies from tea-baggers :)

Bachmann and Marcia Blackburn are bowing out of the Bagger's Ball.

Bye lovebloggers! Thank T-Rex it's Friday. Have a weekend.

Time for Sen. Sanders on the Thommy Smartpants Show.

Wish I could quit you! Maybe next week will do the trick.

#347 Republicans take advantage of that ignorance by throwing red meat to them, knowing they are lying but will never be fact checked as long as they meet the proper hate requirement in their remarks.
And that's why the second Iraq war was such a clusterf**k. Those in power felt they could lie about why we were going in but no one would follow up once we were welcomed as liberators and cheap Iraqi oil was flowing to US gas pumps.
Only that's not how the war went, hence the mess we are stuck in now.

I like watching S.E. Kupp with the sound off (especially when she's wearing her 'naughty schoolgirl' outfit).

BTW my SMP knowledge goes back to the Pentium Pro.

Mary Landrieu gets karma payback for being such a douche - ha ha.

The right wing knows their base is composed of many of the christo-fascists who called the sm show today. The Republicans take advantage of that ignorance by throwing red meat to them, knowing they are lying but will never be fact checked as long as they meet the proper hate requirement in their remarks. The fact that the right knowingly takes advantage of this bible thumping, required education only crowd is a form of discrimination.

340: thanks for the link! I'll have to figure out how many iterations there are for the dueling quad CPU Xeon chips I've got in this computer.. ;->

Isn't it about time for Mr. 911-911 to ditch his wife for Wife 5.0?

If you don't want to rob from your kids and grand kids, then rethugs and corporations need to pay their fair share of taxes to help alleviate some of the burden.

That only step being actually wearing the brown shirt.

Guiliani go suck an egg.

One problem with the all-new Fortress..

they forgot to re-install the microwave and refrigerator.

Ivan Louise Hussain Biggin,

If it wasn't for the fact that we are still on the bleeding edge of technology we might be considered "pathetic" in the enlightened ignorance that the "user friendly" technology of today has caused our neighbours to bug us with.

BTW there is a way of getting over 100% of game speed from a dual-core for free. But us old hands at SMP know how that works for the past decade and a half and for the rest they can follow the following link and get the short-cut:

SERIOUS would be biblical scholars ought to go to the trouble of learning the actual language(s) the Bible was written in. King James did NOT write the Bible!

That's great TV, ain't it?

I just looooove me some John Fugelsang ... I'm not even a Christian, but that sweetly passionate panegyric just put me over the top. Love that man.

Young Republicans one step away from being brown shirts.

For the Good Conspicuous Christians, it's a sin if it makes you grin..

"I'm a little disappointed... small items... I was expecting a pony."

The last time I checked we weren't living by biblical law. These people are dangerous christo-fascists. Trinity, shminity.

Just wanted to mention that BORN AGAINS DON'T READ THE BIBLE. THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.

They make my head hurt.

These so-called straight, religious men sure do spend a lot of time thinking about what gay men having sex with each other.

213: “God MAY have been a dinosaur.. ever consider that?”

If you ever hear that a T-Rex is tearing up Congress... Praise the Lord!

Stephanie, you just need to buy an indulgence. Or two... hundred.

Born Again, oh NO!

Hey caller, get your nose out of the Bible and go live your life by the golden rule.

Too late to call 'Sparta' Jim. ;)

Is there a video feed? I can't find it.

323: sorry, typo there - layin' down.. was intended.

#282, Ivan Louise Hussain Biggin,

I am not "lying down".

320: normally, we dont gnaw on the 44 lizards in our pants, but fox will have to put it into context. pasta la pizza.

311: would you believe my first microprocessor design was an Intel 4040? And I am familiar with the NEC V20, having used it in a couple of airborne command/control systems.

I'm fluent in 80x86 Assembler, as I'm sure you are.

If the masses really knew what we hardware engineers were doing for them, they would give us a big hug.. As it is, however, the masses are asses..

#316: It's frickin freezing Mr Bigglesworth!

One of those arrested in Lousianagate went to my alma mater, where he worked for the conservative newspaper. In my day, we didn't have a conservative newspaper (and we cheered for Hilary Clinton when we saw her).
