Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard has test-fired one of the longest-range missiles in Tehran’s arsenal, state TV reported today. The missile is capable of striking Israel and U.S. Mideast bases and parts of Europe. It was the third round of tests meant to demonstrate the country’s preparedness for an attack.

The mongols were very strong believers in religious freedom and their hordes included animists, Christians, Buddhists, Jews, and members of whatever other religions they ran across in their travels. They were mongols first, of course, and brutal as any, incorporating captured and castrated noblemen as footstools and benches in the very brothels where their wives and daughters were forced to perform. but around their necks they wore crosses and mogens and buddhas on bits of braided horsehair.

I was going to say, Mark, that the those Bhuddas would not have been Alexander -- that's all Chinese and maybe a little India, right?

In some of the museums in Pakistan, they will have pre-Islamic Bhuddas but they downplay it, wanting to pretend there was no noble underlying culture to Islam.

(Sort of the way many Americans think there was no serous organized culture in North America prior to western culture.)

awright always great have a great after talk to ya soon

350 it wasn't Alexander who carved the Bhuddas but it was
the culture that resulted from the blending of the Hellenist
civilization brought by Alexander plus the existing people
plus the Bhuddist influence that came in...

see you all tomorrow.

oh what's not hot about french kissing the dogs... wait, that is
kinda gross... least she don't live in Jersey...

I meant "Iskander"

"Isakaner" is still a curse word in that part of the world

I thought Stephanie was hot for about three shows -- until the first dog french kissing in bed story.

342 I look forward to continuing this discussion Pete. We must
pursue this definition of 'pacified'... I recall that at one
point an entire city of Greek veterans tried to leave and
go home and were slaughtered. It's a complicated question...
Alexander himself didn't live very long after the campaign.

I guess the point is that Afghanistan is not gonna get won by us.
We aren't gonna be settling veterans there. And Alexander's
campaign had parallels with ours... easy in, not so easy to win

Was Alexander the Great the one who had those giant Buddhas made? You know, the ones the Taliban blew up?

Lotsa sex & drugs on the liveblog today...

Buh Bye Bloggoes!

>> 320 yes, Peter, Alexander did colonize by settling his
veterans there with local women…

You can travel around to insanely remote places in Central Asia and find villages with blue-eyed kids. They then tell you that they are descendants to Alexander!

They will also tell you that they defeated him!

Oh boy! It's gonna be Happy Birthday Mama tomorrow! Rest up!

Later ya'lls!

339 It's the one where the bird flew off the cutting board on its own. Julia pretended she dropped it.

With regard to Hitler and Nazi references, have the Repugs never heard of Godwin's Law?

#335, I'd say that when you leave a colony that is never conquered, and disappears only because, after several centuries, it's simply absorbed by the locals, that's as close to "pacify" as pacified gets.

And it was not just a military power - it was a major cultural power. One of the things that has always fascinated me was the fact that in this region one eventually saw Buddhist sculpture and iconography - in a purely Hellenistic style.

340 -- for what would we use the safeword?

Still no Sheboygan!

#334 - that's not the one that ol' Julia dropped on the floor, is it?

is that like a reach around?

328 I like my women like I like my Stephanie Miller:
drunken, slutty and chattering away incessantly

they didnt absorb the lesson from "underdog". - iffn you make sport of folks with funny names, for example, if you mock mood abbas, yehudi menuhin will come over and play you a tune on his violin.

320 yes, Peter, Alexander did colonize by settling his
veterans there with local women... and the Hellenistic
Bactrian Empire did endure for centuries and was a military
power...but I stand by my statement. Alexander never really
did conquer or pacify the place...

saw the "coke-au-vin" turkey on The French Chef one time at cooking camp

does anybody have a link for the pictures of obama with the Goth daughters.

Sad but true... I've actually had to dispute a denial for a patient in which the insurance denied a missed abortion... basically she was only bleeding internally from a botched procedure... and they denied for the incident being non-emergant... nice, huh?

A new cable channel - DCTV - Denied Claims Television.

Those Nazis did know how to accessorize, didn't they?

Deep-fried coke turkey! Yeah baby!

WALKENIZED praise for stephanie miller:

i desire my women as i desire my duct tape:

excellent for auto repair.

Cocaine Turkey? The New Thing for Thanksgiving!

I'm bettin' the coke counteracts the triptomine (spelling?) very well!

#321, also, don't forget the snappy uniforms. The Nazis had sartorial power.

321 littul Joey Blabberman is a pretty funny joke... cept that
he's a fricking sick joke being in a position of power. That
little creep.

309 -- answering my own question -- "Money is speech"

I haven't been in Afghanistan, but I've been in the (Pakistan) territories where Al Qaeda are likely hiding.

The biggest contrast between Al Qaeda/Taliban and the Nazi's is development.

The Taliban are basically tribal fighters. The Nazi's had the height of technology and development of that time.

This is like comparing apples and the Space Station.

It just proves, to me, that Lieberman is completely blinded by ideology if he thinks the two movements are the same.

#315, Alexander was repelled by India. Afghanistan was successfully colonized by Macedonia, and the Macedonian kingdoms there lasted centuries.

Indeed, the Milinda of the famous Buddhist dialogues was the Macedonian king Meliander, king of Bactria.

#307, that, and McChrystal produced his report in conjunction with prominent neocons, and arranged for it to be leaked to embarrass Obama.

He needs to be told, "retire or face insubordination charges". Obama can not let the brass walk all over him.

315. was it by a Kardashian?

Sometimes on Mike Malloy's podcasts you will hear the swears before the call is dumped. Mike always chides the caller saying, Sorry, we're not exclusively on subscriber services like Stern's show so you can't say that word.

Karl Rove threatening people... I too am tired of Mr. Rove.

please go to hell Karl, go soon, do not stand upon your going
but go

and take the rest of the rethug bastards with you

why does jim ward keep saying alexander succeeded in afhanistan? - it's not like i cant hop a plane and come over there and flick a booger at him. alexander was FAMOUSLY repelled.

311 you thought I was kidding but it's true

302
Dunno, it's supposed to be uncensored.......
