rudepunditThe Rude Pundit (Lee Papa) calls in at 6:30am Pacific to talk about ACORN, and allegations of racism against President Obama.

ObamaSmilePresident Obama launched a TV broadcast blitz yesterday to push his top domestic priority, a remake of the U.S. health care system that now rests in the hands of a pivotal but deeply divided Senate committee. Obama laid out what he called the “core principles” he required for health care reform that he says is targeted at middle-class families.

• Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, warns in an urgent, confidential assessment of the war obtained by The Washington Post that he needs more forces within the next year and bluntly states that without them, the 8-year conflict “will likely result in failure.”

Conservatives descended upon Washington, D.C. over the weekend for the 2009 “Values Voter Summit,” the fourth annual gathering of like-minded political activists. Mike Huckabee won the 2012 Presidential Straw Poll taken at the event.

“Mad Men” and “30 Rock” led a pack of Emmy winners who successfully defended their titles at last night’s show, while Australian Toni Collette of Showtime’s “United States of Tara” was honored as the best lead actress in a comedy series. Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), and Glenn Close (“Damages”) all took home acting honors.

President Obama should make the G20 do a show of hands for the nations who have national healthcare plans. We would be the only jackasses with our hands down. He could use this as a televised demonstration of how American exceptionalism has hurt us.

take care, Tony (I hope that my somewhat abrupt verbiage doesn't anger you - I really enjoy debating with you (even when we agree!))

go to the New Left Media YouTube site (see the video mash-up of Kenny Pick's montage on the SMS main page) - and check out the commentary after the "ism" guy -- only time the producers make a personal comment -- it is SO funny!!!

what a waste. dont know if it's national, but reno is getting erectile dysfunction cure commercials. the only erectile dysfunction after stehanie is surplus potency.

Congressional hearings and Sicko are not blanket advertising. That's what we need to do. We need the anti Harry and Louise.

anyway, later, skaters.

#174: Didn't know Steph wore clothes on vacation, either ....

Bye all.

Bye all! Enjoy the day!

ends too soon when you don't get on til 11:15

look forward to tomorree

at is definitely "skankbiscuit" woman saying "district of corruption" and "i'd like to see a christian in the whitehouse" and "grandma, what would you do?"

212: and for more cathartic crescendo.... follow this clip, for even after the robobagpiper's lovely "bogdance", it concludes with a very ambitious lord-of-the-rings sized catharsis.

maybe we can cal it "medical security" instead of socialism

Nawlins, home of the Houdon
Marie LaVey gonna fix ya up with a gris-gris

keep ya safe from the rethug body-snatchers

Wow, Jim, you nailed that one!

208: good observation. the medical INDUSTRY only looks bad because of the wrong paradigm. - it's not an inadequate addressment of a portion of the general welfare; it's a successful exercise in stemming mission-creep at the triage stage.

Geez, 11:40 am EST and not even 200 LiveBlog responses?

Whither Sparta? Mmhhh, mmhhh, mmhhh!

It's hard to listen here in D.C. But I just can't take another week off Laura Ingraham et al saying no, no, no to healthcare and insurance reform. When is the D.C. station coming back?

[And another thing: Where are those photos I was supposed to see?! (riff Casey Kasum).]

We need a whole country agreeing that being healthier, eating healthier is vitally important. We've lost that feeling of togetherness in favor of so-called "rugged individualism" and freedom. Ever notice how many morbidly obese people you see shopping at the grocery store and gliding around on those electric carts in the store? Something is wrong with that picture!

Tell me, if Ronald Reagan ever went to a movie with other people in the auditorium, or took a train, did that make him a communist or a "socialist"? I'm sure he would say no, he was just doing the right thing, common-sense thing.

Organized transportation is better than disorganized (car-based) transportation, and organized healthcare will be better than disorganized healthcare.

"Capitalism" a Cathartic Crescendo for Moore Audiences

207 Steph escaped the clutches of the insane Catholic nuns
it was all downhill from there. Lavort, Jim, Rebekah... all
the dire predictions of those nuns came true.

I can't account for Chris, the poor little urchin's been
corrupted by Stephie

206: new orleans became just an amorphous "deep blue something". coincidence ?

200. those stories have been told in congressional hearings already.

#184 - why not half-way? We agree on single payer! I'm with Health Creep -- once voters realize that reducing the profit-motive in health care works (like Medicare) through public options - squeeze out the insurance corporations.

Would take further legislation in the future - but, use the professionals currently working for insurance corporations (i.e. case managers, utility managers) and fold them into the government-run system -- to best allocate resources.

That's what it comes down to - the allocation of resources - right now, the capitalist version in the U.S. blows - bad. Sometimes a non-profit driven solution can be more efficient?

201: is it fair to lump in lavort with degenerates, when the poor little urchin was never very generated to begin with ? - tell me, is that really being fair to degenerates ?

sean penn in a kayak
breakfast at stephanie’s

the boy in the boat?

200 -- did you even SEE Sicko?

you know we could get many people back to work if we got the CCC up and running again .......but that would be (da da dum) socialism!

195...the TARP wasn't part of the stimulus. I love saying, well, if you want to blame Obama for being a socialist, what's the TARP?

I get it's socialism.

And then I say, when did they implement it?

They try to say under Obama and then I say, uh, no, Hank Paulson, who was Bush's treasury secretary, did it.

Dumbasses.

Art,

You lift the healthcare burden from millions of employers and you will create jobs like you can't imagine.

You save hundreds of millions of Americans thousands of dollars a year on their health insurance, pumping that money into the economy instead, and you will create jobs like you can't imagine.

Two-thirds of employers didn't give out raises this year because they had to spend the money on rising insurance costs. Reform insurance so that the people actually get that raise they deserve and you will create jobs like you can't imagine.

"Stephanie Louise Miller, Nice Girls don't wear black panty hose...
only Prostitutes wear black hose... don't tell me you snuck out
of the house dressed like THAT! You're gonna end up in the Home
For Girls... either that or on the radio, with some kind of
disreputable show and a group of degenerates for side-kicks..."

185...if they did that, they'd be called a bunch of crazy whack jobs. And the congress critters would have them taken away in handcuff.

Seriously, we need to SELL health care reform. We need to take one person's story, and show how reform would help them. We could find someone who died because they lost their insurance or because an insurance company wouldn't cover their treatment because it was a pre-existing condition, and hammer the hell out of that story. And then we close by telling people to call Congress and ask why they want more people like him to die.

194: "...And make her unroll that plaid skirt back
down below the knees…" - - - you really think that's going to get the tune "breakfast at stephanie's" out of my head ?

197 -- post of the day

the private sector alone can not fix major problems where big government proves inadequate; it also takes sean penn in a kayak.

Dunce, the whole attempt at stimulus (which the goddam right wing despises, except for the part about bailing out all the banks) is trying to help the unemployment problem..

182 you bet stinky! Plus that Attitude. With the eyelids half
way down and the lower lip stuck out. Sir Mary Georgine gonna whap
that right outta her. And make her unroll that plaid skirt back
down below the knees...

185: maybe MDB's urban ebonic friend also knows about ebolics.

185 -- the congresspeople would just use the side entrance. no other noticeable effect.

healthcare reform would help small businesses. moron

health care IS part of putting people back to work

When he says "people", he means "me".

Mitch is another Republican wax figure..

wow ! at least the guy has a lot more chin than brain.

Remember the sit in? Republic Windows CEO Arrested, held on $10 million bond

Fer crikey's sake, do all the sick people have to show up on the Capitol steps and vomit, bleed, and die in front of Congress?

176....shane-o, you need a profit motive or people don't invest in companies. You will not see single payer, which I would prefer, for a long, long, time, if ever.

So, we're stuck with private health insurers. Even a public option won't change that.

That's why I say the utility model is the way to go.

177 ah Rodney Dangerfield. Best Senator we ever had, besides of course
Blutarsky

"that and the filterless Pall Malls"

ick. stinky.

179 must be, I just dunno what it is, must ask my Ebonically speaking
Urban friend...

Wow, Momma got on her Catholic Schoolgirl outfit today... same one
she wore back in the day. The black leather jacket Makes the ensemble

that and the filterless Pall Malls

is there a kwanzaaic equivalent of belthaine ?

167 not up for a pagan ritual = dealbreaker

I think that's a given
