• President Obama sternly warned Wall Street yesterday against returning to the sort of reckless and unchecked behavior that threatened the nation with a second Great Depression. Obama warned the financial titans that they could not count on any more bailouts.
• Senate health care negotiators said yesterday they’ve narrowed their differences on a host of difficult issues with just a day or so left to seal an elusive bipartisan deal that could change the course of debate over President Obama’s plans to overhaul health care. Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) said he’ll have a formal proposal tomorrow to meet a deadline for moving ahead.
• House Dems reaffirmed plans to take up a resolution as early as today scolding defiant GOP Rep. Joe Wilson, who shocked colleagues by yelling “You lie!” during President Obama’s address to Congress last week.
• Patrick Swayze, the actor who danced his way into viewers’ hearts with “Dirty Dancing” and then broke them with “Ghost,” died yesterday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

And you need to install Spybot (it’s free) which has a little resident program called Teatimer, which will tell you when something is trying to change your registry. Highly recommended, and the site (Safer Networking) can walk you through removal of some horrible spyware..

You have to manually find where the phony file is that’s causing an issue (which usually blocks out you task manager and control panal) and delete it manually. Once you actually click through the site and purchase the software, you’re typically screwed… sorry for your bad luck… 
Just never click on the site if it comes up again. I’ve had to remove it from my computer multiple times.

The thing I find interesting in the debate on health insurance reform are the claims by opponents that they do not want the government getting involved in healthcare. The point they insist on making is that the government can’t run an enterprise and they like to site the Post Office as an example because some Right Wing talk show host said it and of course because they don’t have an original thought they repeat it to support their arguments.
Well, let me come to the defense of our government which does many things well and is always monitoring and assessing for improvements. Take Transportation for example. There are several components of transportation that our government is responsible for full lifecycle management. Actually, with the virtual vacuum of serious GOP leadership, this event got more coverage than might be warranted.
I notice that Glenn Beck, claimed instigator/owner of the 9/12 rally, didn’t even show up to speak.. Why? (He did manage to feign a choked up response on his TV program.)
As an outside observer, I’m trying to understand why this rally was ever linked with the 9/11 tragedy. What’s the relevance? Was anyone complaining about 9/11? Why is such an important solemn tragic event as 9/11 being exploited for political reasons? Where is the respect for the 9/11 victims? What’s the problem here?
Can we expect to see other Tea Bagger oriented rallies in the future? If so, how are dates chosen for them?

To those mourning Patrick Swayze – he lived for 20 months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. That’s quite an achievement. I’m quite certain that despite the pain of losing him, his family is glad they had all that extra time with him.
A lot of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer don’t last a year – it’s hard to diagnose and treat.

OT — I just bought the White Album on CD for the first time the other day. As all over the map as that thing is, and as undemonstrative as the packaging is, to me the whole thing seems like a unified art object. It always has. Even more than Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, which arguably tried for that effect, there’s a sense of time & place & vision, at least for me, with the White Album.
Anybody else think that?

PAKISTAN’S intelligence and security establishment thinks Osama bin Laden is dead or has fled heavily bombarded tribal areas and gone elsewhere in the Islamic world, probably Yemen.
“If he is still alive – and I emphasise if – he is definitely not in Pakistan,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik tells The Weekend Australian in an interview in Islamabad.
“He could be in a neighbouring country, and he could even have used a boat to go elsewhere … possibly getting aboard a fishing boat on the remote Makran coast of Baluchistan and going to another country.”
Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Dr Malik have a political imperative in insisting the al-Qa’ida leader is not in Pakistan, but senior members of the country’s intelligence agencies who have previously been upfront in admitting he was probably in Pakistan now say they have doubts he is alive or in the region.
