rudepunditThe Rude Pundit (Lee Papa) calls in at 6:30am Pacific for rudeness about this weekend’s “tea party” in Washington, DC, and Rep. Wilson’s outburst at last week’s Obama speech.

PierceCharlie Pierce, author of “Idiot America,” calls in at 7:30am Pacific to tell us why stupidity has become a virtue in America today.

President Obama will try today to revive a stalled push for stricter oversight of Wall Street. Obama’s economic address in New York will also discuss plans to unwind the government’s involvement in the financial sector and call upon Wall Street firms to take responsibility and avoid reckless behavior.

One apology is enough, a digging-in-his-heels Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) said yesterday, challenging Dem leaders who want him to say on the house floor that he’s sorry for yelling “You lie!” during President Obama’s health care speech.

• Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich) said Friday that the Obama administration shouldn’t send more U.S. combat troops to Afghanistan until it has worked first to boost the Afghan security forces. While other Dems are expressing doubt about sending more troops into Afghanistan, GOP-ers are backing Obama’s expected troop increase.

• An audio message purportedly from Al Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has accused President Obama of being unable to fulfill his election pledge to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq.

Good Morning, Live Bloggers and Team Steph! This’ll be a “hi”/”bye” post for me today. I’ve got too much to do and not enough time to do it.

Before I skee-daddle, I’ll post a link to the HuffPo article where Elizabeth Warren, chairwoman of the Congressional Oversight Panel, asks “Why was the bailout of Detroit Automakers treated differently than the bailout of Wall Street?” Good question!

  2. FiveThirtyEight.com did a story about how the crowd estimate for Saturday’s “Tea Party” protests went from ABC News’ realistic 70,000 to an unbelievable 2 million (which was reported on some outlets). The sole reason I am posting this is for Nate Silver’s analogy at the end of the quote:

“There is a big difference, obviously, between 70,000 and 2,000,000. That’s not a twofold or threefold exaggeration — it’s roughly a thirtyfold exaggeration. The way this false estimate came into being is relatively simple: Matt Kibbe, the president of FreedomWorks, lied, claiming that ABC News had reported numbers of between 1.0 and 1.5 million when they never did anything of the sort. A few tweets later, the numbers had been exaggerated still further to 2 million. Kibbe wasn’t ‘in error’…. He lied. He did the equivalent of telling people that his penis is 53 inches long.”

  3. Skyhawk says:

No shock to expected inflated numbers. If anyone watched the coverage on C-Span, it looked liked 50-70K. Of course when Fux News does their tight shots on them it creates the appearance of shoulder to shoulder crowds.

  4. Skyhawk says:

Morning btw, danishes are on the table.

  5. trojanrabbit says:

    Goood morning all.

I’m not sure how much I’ll be participating today until I figure out what I’m doing.

So Rep Wilson (KKK-SC) won’t apologize on the House floor. Of course, we don’t have precedent to go by, but a couple of years ago IF a Democrat did what he did there would be calls for him to grovel on the House floor for forgiveness, THEN he’d be censured THEN executed THEN sent to Gitmo. Whatever. Bleep the Rethugs.

Only 70,000 teabaggers? I heard there were 6,783,754,703.

All I know is, thanks to Monday Night Football my commute home is going to be hell. I should just stay off the interstates and drive secondary roads only. It would probably be quicker though I wouldn’t be surprised if it took 2.5 hours or more.

  6. trojanrabbit says:

    Fark Headline

Obama heads to Wall Street to address financial reform. Stockbroker’s parents will keep them home that day so they won’t be indoctrinated into socialism

  7. SueC says:

Good Morning Bloggies and Happy Mondeeee! Quick in ‘n’ out this am…heehee…

Not only should Rep. Joe Wilson apologize to the entire congress for his heckling of the president…he Definitely should be censored for such a disrespectful act!! I am sooooo tired of Nancy Pelosi taking things like impeachment of Bush/Cheney and now censorship, or any disciplinary action of Wilson, off the table! There needs to be accountability, man!

And, does anyone believe it is mere coincidence that Wilson retired from the reserves in 2003, just as the Iraq war was beginning??? Coward.

  8. Kimberly Hussein inadquate black female "YOU LIE" says:

    Morning all-

Anyone see Kanye’s stunt last night at the VMAs regarding Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech? Hmm… Joe Wilson shouldn’t be the only one groveling for forgiveness.

    #7 Right On

  9. SueC says:

#8 Seems like Kanye hasn’t been right since his mom died. Sad, really.

  10. Marc says:

Saw that some tea-party promoters were posting pics of the march… and tried to pass off pics of the inauguration crowd as pic of the tea party crowd. It was kinda obvious by the winter coats and not leaves on the trees.

  11. SueC says:

“Another dick in the dick arm(e)y…” LOL

  12. SueC says:

    #11 – LOL!

  13. Marc says:

ah yes, here it is. Some Freeper posted a lot of photos, including one of the Obama inauguration.

  14. Margaret Hussein says:

Is it just me, or is the KTLK broadcast down?

  15. Margaret Hussein says:

Guess it wasn’t just me. It’s up now with my having done nothing. Nevermind.

  16. scooter says:

I was driving around out in the middle of nowhere on Saturday and was shocked when I eventually heard thru the static that the teabagger demonstration on the mall was “the biggest political event of its kind in the history of the world.” And guess what? That was Faux Radio News report. What are the odds?

  20. SueC says:

    #19 – Incredible!

  21. wildweezle says:

You got to love capitalism… (Google Ads got Steph)…

At the bottom of this web page is a link to Joe Wilson’s ad requesting donations to his campaign….

Steph is making moolah.. well maybe not if her fans don’t click on the link…

  22. Finally got the stream to work… morning all!

  23. wildweezle says:

“You don’t see people of color at Klan rallies either…

    That was funny….

  24. wildweezle says:

I keep wondering why the progressives aren’t calling Joe Wilson by his real name…

    Addison GRAVES Wilson

  25. scooter says:

The rally photos look like someone poured a bucket of White-out on a bunch of regular Americans. Oh, and removed their brains and pasted 100 lbs. of fat onto them too.

Someone on another blog said that the protesters were likely lured onto the buses with sandwiches!

  26. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

    Good morning bloggies! TGIM!

  27. Hiya, Bloggoes!

I went to the Boston Folk Festival this weekend. Headliner was Dar Williams. She’s sombody whose music I’ve listened to for years, from her first CD on. She struggled for a while because the first run of material she had was really striking and emmotional, but it seemed to be a pace or a style she couldn’t maintain. Her newer material is more heady and in some ways more pop based. I was particularly impressed with this song…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwvLzG51EWQ

It’s 2 minutes 40 seconds, so if you’ve an interest, this may be a place to go during “wild thing”…

  28. JoeinDC says:

I saw a high ranking video on YOUTUBE about Saturday’s rally.

The only aerial pic of the MALL was a pic from January 21, 2009.
Jumbo Trons on the mall, no leaves on the trees.

Plus……I was down on the Mall on Saturday and their were white tents on the mall….there was a Childrens exhibit on the Mall.

  29. JoeinDC says:

How come FOX TV didn’t have any aerial pics of the event?
Only MSNBC had the aerial camera looking down Pennsylvania Ave.

  30. my pooer's dad says:

Warren Buffet once again is espousing that the rich pay their fair share of taxes.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/58129-buffett-to-meet-with-senate-dems

As this article says, the wealthy, who earn a large portion of their income from investments in capital, have a 15% tax on those investments. He points out his tax liability is 16.5%, whereas his typical employee has a 25% tax liability. If the government would bring the capital gains tax up (and remove home/farm sales from capital gains and reclassify them as a new form of income), and the FICA tax cap would be removed, we could probably have universal healthcare, and solve other fiscal issues, and still lower that tax burden on the average American. However, the GOP have convinced these stupid teabaggers that taxes on the wealthy are somehow bad for them. Great guys, keep protesting to protect the special interest of the wealthy elite.

  41. Tony says:

Morning, all. Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

36…remember the Chapelle skit on Clayton Bigsby?

  42. Piglett says:

Hey…does anyone know where I can find the article Steph just read from The Washington Post…I just looked there but didn’t see it. Thanks!

  43. flombaye says:

    what did kanye do ?

  44. 45 — He was a boorish as he could possibly be. He interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to say that Beyonce’s new video was “the best video ever.” Totally stole her moment and for no good reason. I tend to like Kanye’s music, but I was quite unimpressed by that. It’s the opposite of my favorite blurt of his…

  45. Tony says:

Hey, folks, know how bad this recession is?

It’s so bad the porn industry is seeing shriveling sales and flaccid profits. I blogged about it.

I wanna hear a squeezy bit on that.

  46. flombaye says:

46: thank you. – and i presume to know the favorite blurt. – nobody in their right mind could resist a chance to make mike myers jump like that.

  47. my pooer's dad says:

  48. Kimberly Hussein inadquate black female "YOU LIE" says:

Anybody find that article on the Tea baggers protesting the Black family reunion? The only one I know of is the Tom Joyner Family Reunion in Orlando.

  49. flombaye says:

49: mavis was a guest on “wait, wait, dont tell me” abouta ayear ago. told the story of when bob dylan proposed while in line with her entire family at a cafeteria. in mavis’ style of telling, it comes out even funnier than the synopsis would suggest.

  50. flombaye says:

51: was kanye ever as mean as that to jason or freddy kreuger ?

  51. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

  52. gabby hussein hayes says:

Michael Myers don’t like black people?

  53. Shane-O says:

Jim DeMint welcomed the protesters to Waterloo. Seems pretty proud of that one (even though he back-tracked at the time of his original comment)

  54. my pooer's dad says:

52: Darn! I wish I would have caught that one. I wonder if they have it archived.

  55. flombaye says:

if you go to a family reunion to cruise for chicks, you may be a redneck. such news is foxworthy. – but this development is fox worthy: if you carry a lame sign in D.C. just to use “maynase” ina sentence (“maynase a lot of lion here”) you may be too dumb for the klan.

  56. flombaye says:

    they have fomentum.

  57. gabby hussein hayes says:

is the michael myers in halloween the same one as the mike meyers in the Austin Powers?

  58. k to the g says:

MORNING ALL! YOU ROCK! AND I’LL STUFF THIS TENNIS BALL DOWN ANYONE’S THROAT WHO THINKS JIM’S ALBUMN ISN’T THE BEST ALBUMN IN THE WORLD!!!!

  59. flombaye says:

61: yep. very angry kid from getting teased about the teeth.

  60. 62 — not that hungry! “Jim’s Album is the best album in the world!”

  61. flombaye says:

62: as a D.O.G. (got my doctorate in gluttony from STFU), i must ask, what flavor is it ?

  62. Tony says:

You know, the ignorance of the population is amazing. It’s unbelievable. And it’s not just on the right, it’s on the left as well. There are many on the left who yap about September 11 being a government operation and they are just as crazy as those who talk about death panels.

  63. 64 — I just got the remastered white album. Which shall I listen to first?

  64. JoeinDC says:

FOX TV didn’t even have a camera on top of The NEWSEUM.
that just shows you they didn’t want proof that 2 million were not there.

  65. 66 — and LHO is the lone shooter. I know you believe that.

  66. flombaye says:

67: jim wad’s best of yoko-kim jong il duets.

  68. k to the g says:

    65. IT’S NOT FOR YOU IF YOU’D ENJOY IT! AND AS A D.O.G….YOU LIE!

  69. Tony says:

and on that note, I am out of here. See ya!

  70. Good morning, fellow SMS fans and MookenBlogsters.

I’m finally here, somehow my XP lost the part of its brain last night, I had no volume and couldn’t access the main volume control, which was muted.. And somehow no volume control icon in sight.. After farting with it for about an hour, I finally managed to get it working again. Once again, some Microsoft update to the Explorer.exe program (which runs every bloody thing) left it with its brain damaged.

Anyway, how is everyone? I hope you guys had a nice weekend.

Did you see that enormous (!!) Teabagger rally? KOS had some photos of all the featured speakers, all right wing assholes. I’m sure Fox News and Glen Beck will be proclaiming victory for the next week, at least.

It’s really amazing to me, if these people are truly concerned about government spending, where the hell were they during the last 8 years of GW reign, when $2 billion or more was being pissed away for the Bush Iraq Oil War?

  71. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

Re. protesting: what have we learned?

    * don’t try to cover three issues in five words
    * use only professional quality puppets

  72. Piglett says:

Okay…after a couple of things that have been said on the air this morning, I feel like I have to defend the South. I’m a native Atlantan (and still live here), and I just want to let everyone know that NOT all of us down here are stupid, illiterate, inbred, disrespectful, uneducated, Civil War obsessed racists! But unfortunately, there are quite a few that make the rest of us look bad…

  73. Unfortunately SC is not the only overtly racist state, nor the only one proud of its ignorance. These are the folks who keep the GOP propaganda machines like Fox News and Clear Channel in business.

  74. Piglett, I agree with you. Unfortunately the ones making the massive amounts of noise ARE the ignorant racists..

  75. There are nice people and there are asshats everywhere you go. Some places, though, the proportions are different.

  76. flombaye says:

66/69: take it easy. tony simply listed a litany of true statements. 9-11 was either purely accidental or a conspiracy. – thereis something like a 100 % rating among observers that there was some sort of a conspiracy. – which particular conspiracy was in effect is what is up for debate. others particulars (that cheney and silverstein benefitted with tremendous and singular focus, that nanothermite was everywhere, for example) are not. – - – still, just that some elements of causality remain unknown, means that tony’s statement is correct; ignorance, amidst a “left” population, does exist.

  77. my pooer's dad says:

Grrr! The bell tolls 9:30. Another day no sub gigs. Is it wrong to hope someone gets sick so I can work? I don’t want them to get real sick, just a little cold, or an ear ache.

  78. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

    Mornin!
This is the third time in as many days I’ve heard this guy on the radio. I wonder if he’s going to do the same jokes for the third time.

  79. flombaye says:

72: “IT’S NOT FOR YOU IF YOU’D ENJOY IT!” – perhaps shoving the tennis ball exclusively down the throat imposes un unnecessary restriction upon the punitive aspect. – any other ideas ?

  80. 66 — I took it to mean that Tony was saying that anybody who questions whether there was a conspiracy in that situation is by definition crazy. I have questions. I think serious people can have questions about that day. I didn’t feel like I could let it pass.

  81. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

    Madduane, she said asshat! Coinkydink?

  82. flombaye says:

78: dont be so defensive. we all LOVE patrick duffy.

  83. 90 — I hear he has webbed toes and fingers and can hold his breath for, like, an hour or something.

  84. my pooer's dad says:

78: By no means does the South have the monopoly on racists. Atlanta is a wonderful town, so is Savannah.

  85. my pooer's dad says:

    91: No, he has gills.

  86. shāf says:

I have to jump in to say, I was in Hebron, KY Friday night to Saturday morning. At the hotel where we stayed, I overheard a family talk about their plans to go to the Creation Museum on Saturday. I hate to say it, but they fit my stereo type of typical goers (three kids, lower-middle class, high-school education).

  87. flombaye says:

84: “Grrr! The bell tolls 9:30. Another day no sub gigs…” – why are you using such primitive technology as a hook on a pole to catch a submarine ? that seems dangerous.

  88. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

#58: my pooers dad (what does that mean anyway?), this is – probably – the link to that Mavis Staples episode:
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98559491

  89. flombaye says:

87: “I think serious people can have questions about that day. I didn’t feel like I could let it pass.” – stopped up by a tennis ball again ?

  90. my pooer's dad says:

    95: Good one!

  91. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

“Read the tea leaves”, Steph? Good luck – Faux News says there’s too many of them to count.

  92. my pooer's dad says:

    96: Sweet! Thanks!!!!

  93. flombaye says:

94: “….I overheard a family talk about their plans to go to the Creation Museum on Saturday….” – yeppers. the beach boys make everything better. “…way down in kosovo…”

  94. k to the g says:

    86. pick your least favorite orifice then

  95. flombaye says:

94: also too, do they have a tribute to tesla at that croatian museum ?

  96. flombaye says:

104: you mean rush’s think tank ? – how are you going to get the tennis ball past hannity’s huge head ?

  97. k to the g says:

Heard on Bill Press Show that they called Obama “Obambi” durung the campaign because they thought he couldn’t give or take a punch

  98. flombaye says:

108: and yet, if you ever encountered a deer wearing boxing gloves, wouldnt you in fact turn around and run ? i would.

  99. k to the g says:

    109.  good point

  100. my pooer's dad says:

96: I call my dog “the pooer” – due to the copious amounts of poo I pick up on her walks.

  101. k to the g says:

It’s all about the media and and it’s all about the money. Teabaggers are the useful fools for the greedy Right.

  102. my pooer's dad says:

109: “Rush think tank.” Now there’s an oxymoron.

  103. I loved the articla at Kos saying that the conservatives are so uncivil that they need their own 9/11, because they can’t bear to share the original with the rest of us.

  104. flombaye says:

so kanye tried to shove a tennis ball down bambi’s throat at a teabagger rally ? do i have that right ?

  105. my pooer's dad says:

117: That’s how Fox news will report it.

  106. Shane-O says:

  107. k to the g says:

We need more loonies on the left. Wonder if Serena and Kanye could lead a march of people wearing asshats.

  108. These are the lyrics to the song I posted the video of earlier. I think this one may find its way into my repertoire, I think it’s awesome.

Sitting with a number eight platter at the restaurant
Four twenty nine for almost anything I want
Add it up it’s cheaper than the stuff I make myself
I get by, I never needed anybody’s help
And I tore out an ad and they told me that I
    would press the buzzer
    Would press the buzzer
At the graduate lab they were doing some tests
    I pressed the buzzer
    Would press the buzzer

Ride a circle off the highway
    Spiral into the driveway
In the maze of all prefabs
They’ll be waiting at the lab

I don’t know how everybody makes it through the daily drill
Paint the nails, walk a dog, pay every bill
I’m feeling sorry for this guy that I pressed to shock
He gets the answers wrong I have to up the watts
And he begged me to stop but they told me to go
    I pressed the buzzer
    I pressed the buzzer
So get out of my head just give me my line
    I pressed the buzzer
    I pressed the buzzer
    [Buzzer Lyrics On http://www.elyricsworld.com/ ]
Ride a circle off the highway
    Spiral into the driveway
In the maze of all prefabs
They’ll be waiting at the lab

They called me back to the lab to discuss the test
I put my earrings on found my heels wore a dress
Right away I knew it was like i failed a quiz
The man said do you know what a fascist is
I said yeah it’s when you do things you’re not proud of
but you’re scraping by taking orders from above
I get it now I’m the face I’m the cause of war
We don’t have to blame white coated men anymore
When I knew it was wrong I played it just like a game
    I pressed the buzzer
    I pressed the buzzer
here’s your seventy bucks now everything’s changed
    I pressed the buzzer
    I pressed the buzzer
But tell me where are your stocks would you do this again
    I pressed the buzzer
And tell me who made your clothes was it children or men
    I pressed the buzzer

Ride a circle off the highway
    Spiral into the driveway
In the maze of all prefabs
They’ll be waiting at the lab

  109. flombaye says:

116: perhaps some crazed mennonite fundamentalists will crash some fully fueled (quaker oats – it’s the right thing to do) horses and buggies into a fully loaded nascar stadium. – meanwhile, passengers aboard the buggy heading for the mall of america will attempt a counter-attack to possible save themselves, or at least the people who are patriotically shopping. “LET’S SAUNTER !”. — an unbiased but plain and bearded commission of religious scholars will then take persecutions off the table because the heavenly father in his wisdom, has seen fit to move the event into the past.

  135. Ingraham is replete with a tight little body..

  142. Hey, here’s something. Notice the teabagger posters of Obama with a Hitler mustache drawn in? Now, knowing how the modern Hitler Youth, skinheads and other white supremacists feel about the “mud race” and all, I wonder how outraged they are about seeing Der Fuhrer depicted as a BLACK MAN!

The media have been pretty good at ignoring protesters, well, forever! I remember I had relatives that participated in the massive “Tractorcade” circa 1977 comprised of farmers protesting agricultural descending on Washington. It was HUGE with guys in big tractors circling around the National Mall. But when I opened up Newsweek to read about it, it was a little blurb way back in the middle of the magazine, right below and smaller than a story on Jackie Onassis’s recent fashion purchases. It was then I realized how incredibly filtered and biased the media can be.

  157. k to the g says:

The media-nutbag coalition will eventually burn out as people get sick of it, or they’ll jump the shark (hopefully not in a violent way) and turn people off.
