LiveBlog for Thursday, September 10, 2009

schakowskyRep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) calls in at 6:05am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT) calls in at 6:30am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

Gerald McEntee, President of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union, calls in at 7:05am Pacific to talk about President Obama’s speech last night.

woolseyRep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) calls in at 7:30am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Missouri) calls in at 8:30am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

President Obama last night made a passionate call for Congress to fix the nation’s ailing health care system in the same spirit that created Social Security and Medicare in difficult times. He offered his most detailed outline for legislation while challenging GOP opponents to build on issues of agreement rather than play politics to exploit differences.

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted “You lie” during President Obama’s health care speech to Congress last night, and members of both parties condemned the heckling. Wilson called the White House to apologize and spoke with Rahm Emanuel, who accepted the apology on the president’s behalf. “We can disagree without being disagreeable,” Emanuel said to Wilson. “That was the point of the speech.”

    Goood morning all!

In a fair world Rep Wilson would find that his healthcare has been cancelled and all power to his office has been shut off. I don’t remember any Democrats shouting down Chimpy during a nationally televised speech. They may have sat on their hands while the Fascist half of the chamber cheered, but no outbursts.

Ah yes, the Party of Family Values strikes again.

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/9/9/779065/-Hot-Mic-Exposes-GOP-Family-Values

How incredibly stupid do you have to be to talk about boinking a lobbyist into an open mike.

  2. Len says:

I feel great this morning after donating to Rep Wilson’s opponent, Rob Miller. Hit him where it hurts. Support a Miller.

    http://www.actblue.com/page/kossacks4miller

So far this fund raising group specific to the “You Lie” comment has almost doubled Rob Miller’s donations on the ActBlue web site.

  3. trojanrabbit says:

Oh, and I didn’t get a chance to say this yesterday but boy am I glad I get to vote for Barney Frank every 2 years!

Shame on Jim though for screwing up the state…er…Commonwealth. Does that mean that the duty of announcing guests falls to Rebekah now?

Got visitors again today, so I’ll be popping out soon. Have fun….

  4. shāf says:

#3 Yes, Rebekah can do the introduction duties… but only as Ross Perot. ;) “Can I finish, can I finish. I’ve got a pie chart.”

  5. shāf says:

I’ll add that Rep. Frank was a wonderful guest. Hopefully, he’ll make a return visit.

I’ve been pondering appropriate retribution for Rep. Joe Wilson (besides the obvious loss of his seat to a Dem in the next election). I think a long dining room table discussion with Rep. Frank about House etiquette would be a good start.

  6. trojanrabbit says:

    Morning shaf.

Still waiting on the visitors, should be here any minute though.

I’m bummed that it’s dark when I start my commute to work in the morning now. :(

  7. trojanrabbit says:

    5.

I think loss of healthcare would be retribution enough. Of course the resident RW “sports-yak” station was cheering him on. I’ll be interested in seeing what effect the new competition (with the death of WBCN) has on them ratings-wise. They’ve already cut down their absurdly long commerical breaks (up to 15 minutes).

  8. shāf says:

#2 Len, I saw that on Daily Kos this morning (that Miller’s contributions have doubled). In Stewie’s words, “Oh, how deliciously ruthless!”

And, there’s nothing wrong with the Rethugs sitting on their hands during a speech by the opposition leader. However, Cantor’s twittering throughout the speech is just frakin’ rude. Someone needs to take his toy away.

  9. Mark Sanford and Joe Wilson. South Carolina is the new Florida.

  10. trojanrabbit says:

And in a delicious bit of irony CBS has seen fit to park the WBCN call letters at a sports-talk station in Charlotte, which next week will flip to conservative talk.

  11. trojanrabbit says:

    I think I’m being paged, toodle-ooo…

  12. shāf says:

#10 I swear, there’s not much difference between sports talk and conservative talk (in substance or the intelligence of their P1 demo).

  13. JoeBob Scruggs says:

Well shucks, now dont yall know i tried to tell good ole Joe Willie what a great job he done last nite, but when I went to his web thang to tell him and all his boys that he looked like a saweeet summer sausage bout ready to burst an that we un all her bouts just love him for bein so brave that his web thang done broke. magine that. yall dont belive me! go on check it for yo selfs. http://www.joewilson.house.gov/

Seems his phone done broke two.

  14. Between Wilson’s outburst, Cantor’s twittering, and Bhoener’s smug look… I’m truely disgusted… I thought this was congress, not kindergarten…

  15. my pooer's dad says:

12: You’re right there, shaf. And it appears sports is the only area RWers are more than willing to spend taxes on (aside from military spending).

  16. my pooer's dad says:

13: LMAO – stop! I’m spitting coffee out my nose.

  17. my pooer's dad says:

So, the main RW talking point now appears to be, “Let’s start from scratch and have ‘true’ bipartisan participation in developing the plan.” So, up to now, all the RWs did was lie, use divisive tactics, send tea baggers to town hall meetings to call Obama a nazi, and otherwise just be obstructionists. Yet, they have offered nothing in terms of what they would do. Traditionally, all I have ever heard them offer in terms of healthcare is tax credits/vouchers – the only trick in the RWs bag for everything.

  18. good morning, Glories!

    como estan ustedes?

  19. Tony says:

Hey, guys…I’m going to blog whore real quick here. If you’re pissed off at Joe Wilson and his outburst, here’s how you get even.

Pissed off at Joe Wilson? Here’s What to Do

His district includes a couple of very tourism dependent cities. So you send emails to the CVB and Chamber of Commerce there letting them know that because of his outburst, you won’t be considering them as a vacation or meeting destination.

If 84 percent of the district voted for him in the last election, then they support him. So make them pay. Hit them in the wallet.

I’ve got to run, but I’ll be back in a bit.

  20. Barney Frank: Benny Frank-lin? reincarnated?
    just wondering

  21. Dan The Man says:

    Good Morning Board!

Happy birthdays to cutie-pies Colin Firth (49) and Ryan Phillipe (35) and the former Mr. Chicone Guy Ritchie is 41.

    Impeach Joe Wilson now!

  22. carein2205 says:

    hey yall.

  23. jram says:

you lie! you have every right to fear! get off my phone!

  24. WTFU!!! [wake the f@#K up!] We live in an era of Corporate Rule.
You are being reduced to a feudal peon by these Monstrosities.
This is not an epoch where more freedom is needed, we suffer
under a LACK of government not too much of it. There IS too
much government, and it encroaches on our private lives, but
    that’s Tomorrow’s Rant.

The Oppression of our age comes from Private Corporations.
Hazen S. Pingree, Mayor of Detroit and Governor of Michigan
spoke out against Corporations… in 1888 or so
“Corporations seeking franchises find it necessary to
elect dishonest men to public office.”

And now comes bought-and-paid-for Suckwad little Tony Kennedy,
Filth of the First Water and Lord High Justice of the Supreme
Court of the United States, and Corporate Shill:
“Corporations have lots of knowledge about environment,
transportation issues, and you are silencing them during
    the election”

Hey Scumbag: WTFU! Corporations ain’t citizens, they ain’t
people, they got no Free Speech rights, and the only
KNOWLEDGE they got about the environment is how to trash
it for their own profit and then walk away with help from
    dog shits like you.

Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas want to
destroy whatever shreds of democracy this nation has left,
by allowing unbridled Corporate BUYING of elections.
Corporations are three hundred pound gorillas. Government
exists for the sole purpose of keeping the strong from
taking the weak. Leave it up to these bastards on the
Supreme Court in the pockets of the Corporate Elite and
there is no United States of America. There is only
Exxon-Mobile, General Electric, Walmart, etc etc etc
    ad nauseum

a caller to Thom Hartmann yesterday observed that
Corporate names are merely the noms de guerre of Land Pirates conducting Class War on the rest of us.

Smell the freaking coffee before it’s too damned late people.

“What is clear by statements made by many notable individuals (including Churchill and Disraeli) is that ‘at least since
the Roman Empire there have been very powerful individuals
whose personal interests are inimical to national interests everywhere. Such people collect to form very low-profile
cabals, cliques, and cartels. Most of their activities are
not necessarily “illegal” in the usual sense. They are above
the law and they determine the law to serve themselves.’

Upon any significant social or political issues they always
have representatives on all sides. They thrive upon the
chaos. Human calamity is their opportunity.”

priviledge: Latin for ‘Private Law’ i.e. law written in the
dead of night behind closed doors by lobbyists and passed
by corrupt politicians for the sole benefit of their
Corporate patrons who enrich themselves at the expense of
    everyone else.

OK, that’s it, that’s my Rant For The Day, I’m out, I’ve got
to go beg for a job. From my Corporate Masters. Good Luck.

  25. Len says:

In the last hour Rob Miller, Joe Wilson’s opponent, has added 283 donors for a total of $11,157 at the ActBlue web site.

    http://www.actblue.com/page/kossacks4miller

  26. scooter says:

Right after Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst last nite some clever person managed to briefly alter his Wiki page to include something like “a $%#@%$# who has no respect for the President”. I’ve lost the link and the sentence was reportedly up for just an hour or so.

Haven’t heard how Valerie Plame reacted when he got home.

  27. I thought the Repugs were going to try one of their special town hall shout downs last night.. If there are of them left who are respectable, they have to be embarrassed.

  28. Derrick says:

This was like Night at the Apollo Theater.

  29. carein2205 says:

    25 peace Mark

  30. Derrick says:

Wilson gambled on that his fellow republicans would back him up and echo the sentiment, NOT!!!

  31. EW278 says:

If this unites the Democrats and Congress starts helping the country again, then thank you Joe Wilson.

  32. jram says:

it was supposed to be a “you lie” wave, but he was the only one who followed through….

  33. Deb says:

    Morning all!

Great speech by the prez last night. I feel better.

Was fun watching Pelosi after that idiot yelled – bet he’s going to the woodshed this morning!

  34. EW278 says:

If only Los Angeles would be a liberal city (again, assuming it ever was in the first place)…

  35. Derrick says:

In Wilson’s pathetic mind, he thought that a giant can was going to pull the President off stage.

  36. shāf says:

And, in case you wondered what papers the GOP members were holding up, it was their health care plan. If it’s what they proposed a few months ago, that it in its entirety.

  37. carein2205 says:

where do I send my check AGAINST Wilson?

  38. EW278 says:

    LOL # 33!

  39. Terry says:

My progressive soul is aching this morning. I’m extremely disappointed with the President/Baucus’s speech. No Universal Healthcare mentioned. The health insurance companies will continue to economically rape us. Also, the socio-economic division of our country will continue to worsen. He also didn’t go off the teleprompter when the goof from South Carolina insulted him! If this is his set of balls, he needs to get a larger set. Hopefully, President Obama will prove to me that he’s NOT just another politician, which is what I took away from his speech last night.

  40. my pooer's dad says:

34: She should assign him an office next to the boiler room.

  41. flombaye says:

1: as funny as the bigger picture is, it’s impossible not to be perturbed by the lethal way that a rabbit can swing a participle (RUN AWAY !! – RUN AWAY !!) – boinking a lobbyist into an open mike ? – ouch ! i really must get back into the rhythm of karaoke night. i hear reno now has a karaoke stage whereupon one can be gonged.

  42. shāf says:

The GOP was not just disgruntled, they were a veritable “desert of gruntle”.

  43. Len says:

How cool is that, plants in the republican section to stand up and clap. That is way cool.

  44. my pooer's dad says:

    31: Que crickets.

  45. Deb says:

I loved how the pitiful repugs sat there like spoiled children, refusing to take part. It was so great that Obama confronted them. When he said “we will call you out!” – I yelled FINALLY at the TV!

  46. Derrick says:

Wilson, we are going to have to move your office to the basement and take your stapler too.

  47. Len says:

    #38 carein2205

This web site is accepting contributions to Rob Miller, Joe Wilson’s opponent.

    http://www.actblue.com/page/kossacks4miller

  48. flombaye says:

6: “….I’m bummed that it’s dark when I start my commute to work in the morning now.” – be of good cheer that you’re in alaska. you get to see russia for free.

  49. flombaye says:

8: “…Cantor’s twittering throughout the speech is just frakin’ rude. Someone needs to take his toy away….” maybe so, but “the jazz singer” was still watchable. – thoe one change i would have made would be to have franklyn ajaye sing the kol nidre.

  50. Derrick says:

Rob Miller, Wilson opponent has received over $80,000 dollars in unsolicited contributins since that outburst.

  51. Derrick says:

You know that the president is going to give healthcare to illegal immigrants, since they did vote for him, right?

  52. flombaye says:

12: “…I swear, there’s not much difference between sports talk and conservative talk…” – the difference must be that sports talk has a higher standard; it’s a world where not even sarah louise heath palin flunked out. – - – - right, rush ?

  53. I also liked how the entire pack of stooges stood up abruptly at the mention of tort reform. Of course, these guys are all for limiting the ability for individuals to sue, but certainly won’t compromise the same rights for their beloved corporations..

Also, I’m told that the cost of medical malpractice awards amounts to about 1.5% of health costs. While that is substantial, it’s not going to fix health care.

Everyone gripes about the greed of insurance companies when it comes to health care, but how about the greed of the pharmas and the health products industry.

Let me give you an example. I’ve had bad staph infections multiple times, requiring surgery. Part of the effective wound therapy is a device called the Wound VAC, which is literally a special small vacuum pump. The special bandages seal around the wound and the vacuum pump keeps it under negative pressure. It’s a wonderful device, and a simple one. It RENTS for $132 a day, of course, and my (good) insurance didn’t cover 20% of the cost. So, $26 a day for 30 days in a month, and I’m coughing up over $750 for the use of this device. And I end up having it for nearly two months. I wanted to simply PURCHASE the unit – NO, not available for sale. My doctor wanted to purchase a couple of units for the clinic. No sale!

Imagine NOT having insurance and needing that device. Even $750 a month blows a hell of a hole in the average family budget.

I’ve got similar comments about charges for such things, even like wheelchairs, which are overpriced. Various health care rental groups make a real killing on this stuff!

And don’t get me started on Walgreens! These people are making a bundle off medications. In Mexico or Canada, the identical prescriptions sell for as little as 30% of what they do in this country.

    Who’s gouging?

  54. jane b says:

Joe Wilson is one of seven state legislators who opposed removing the Confederate flag from the State House in Columbia to the Confederate Memorial on the grounds. Whatcha wanna bet his calling out the Uppity Negro gets him free lunch at Maurice’s Restaurant for a year?
    http://www.lewrockwell.com/yates/yates13.html
    http://feministlawprofs.law.sc.edu/?p=3831

  55. Derrick says:

Was the president playing the game of chess or chicken, I think that he was playing chess.

  56. Kimberly Hussein inadquate black female "YOU LIE" says:

    Morning,

OMG, I hate that the Joe Wilson is getting so much attention but exposure of the repubs on the national stage as disrespectful speaks to where the party has evolved (as if we already didn’t know this). I hope he loses his reelection. He knew exactly what he was doing.

  57. 54 can you create your own version of the Wound Vac?

    hi Carein!

obit for my murdered neighbor here:
    http://www.freep.com/article/20090910/NEWS03/909100425/1005/Shooting-victim-was-counselor-for-children

ok I’m out the door, try to get back before the shows over

  58. Derrick says:

The republicans were thinking that the president was playing chicken and that he would swerve off the road at the last minute and hit a light pole.

  59. my pooer's dad says:

    50: Can I get a flombaye-English dictionary?

  60. flombaye says:

20: “Barney Frank: Benny Frank-lin? reincarnated?” – dont let the skateboard fool you. sure, they both seem frumpy, smart, pro-library, electrified when they want to be…. but they cant be the same person. ben franklin was way hetero. maximo hetero. hetero to beat the band. way bitchin hetero. like totally frikkin death-defying hetero. the guy was hetero up the a— hey, wait a second….

  61. Deb says:

Yup – and no one called Bush out on his lies.

  62. EW278 says:

#54, Sorry to hear that. Hope you are better.

Second, you are right, the pharams and health products industries disgust me too. How many commercials do we have to see about one pill that cures something – but you risk dry mouth, bladder control, liver problems, blindness and forget ever taking medication if your pregnant. I am convinced they are selling one pill and calling it different things in order to fool us. They other product they have is viagra (they’re all the same – and I am sick of those commercials too).

  63. Derrick says:

Why does it not surprise me that Wilson is from South Carolina?

  64. my pooer's dad says:

54: I also heard that medical malpractice kills more people each year than auto accidents.

  65. flombaye says:

“avoid going to hilton head” – honey, we’re cancelling the visit to paris.

  66. EW278 says:

    # 62 I might be in the minority here – but I think the Democrats should have called out Bush and Cheney.

  67. flombaye says:

33: “it was supposed to be a “you lie” wave, but he was the only one who followed through….” – two months late, no less. yumpin yimminy. why wasnt rumsfeld there ?

  68. Derrick says:

He made disparaging remarks against the Commander in Chief. That’s what happened to 1Lt Watada when he talked against George W. Bush.

  69. Derrick says:

Since Wilson is a Colonel, that probably won’t happen though.

  70. Deb says:

#67 – absolutely! I wish they had been confronted and stopped long before it launched. Congress never officially declared war – just gave them the vote to pursue starting war.

  71. flombaye says:

43: ah yes… the desert of gruntle. – didnt you love how cleverly beowulf handled the ambush by tim and the trojan rabbit ?

  72. 9 — like Africanized bees, they’re moving north! eep!

    Hiya, Bloggoes

How ya doin’? Chock full of comedic content?

  73. flombaye says:

44: “How cool is that, plants in the republican section to stand up and clap. That is way cool.” – i didnt get to see it. did their black guy high five with somebody ?

  74. Deb says:

    Hey Joe – prejudiced much?

  75. Derrick says:

Wilson is probably a birther too, so I’m sure that he feels that it is ok to say those remarks.

  76. Skyhawk says:

The moment Joe made his outburst I was thinking of the Invader Zim cartoon.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqMPggnF188

  77. my pooer's dad says:

Tort reform is bull shit. One of my father’s doctors told him he perofmed a PSA test, but he didn’t. Eight years later my father is dead from prostate cancer, but the docotor is still practicing. My father won a small suit against that doctor, but I’d prefer to have him around.

  78. Deb says:

Obama handled it well though – had a slight smile on his face, like “what?” and kept going forward. It was rude and unprofessional, just like cantor texting during the speech. They are losers.

  79. flombaye says:

46: “I loved how the pitiful repugs sat there like spoiled children, refusing to take part. It was so great that Obama confronted them. When he said “we will call you out!” – I yelled FINALLY at the TV!” — yeah, sometimes obama sort of has that older-brother-with-a-sense-of-humor quality: “stop bitch-slapping yourself! – yes, you can! – stop bitch-slapping yourself!”

  80. Deb says:

#78 – sorry to hear about your dad. Did the insurance company have anything to do with it or was it just an incompetent doctor?

  81. Derrick says:

Obama is a clutch basketball shooter.

  82. jram says:

i would have loved to see some japanese style politics come out…with the president leaping off the stage with a shoe in one hand and part of the podium in the other. Joe Wilson fashions his health care paper work into makeshift shank….

    yeah….

  83. my pooer's dad says:

81: From what I know, just a negligent doctor. But whos knows how much preasure there is not to do test.

  84. Deb says:

I was just sitting there hoping that some of my conservative relatives were watching the speech – getting some correct information for a change – rather than boycotting it and watching cluster fox.

  85. Deb says:

The moral of the story is, don’t underestimate Obama. I was reminded of that again watching him last night but we are still getting to know this president.

  86. flombaye says:

67: “I might be in the minority here – but I think the Democrats should have called out Bush and Cheney.” – - – oh, no no no no no ! – you see, there was a war, and the rule is it would be rude to interrupt. this is a derivative of the joke about a kid who was in court charged with double homicide. as a defense, all the kid had to say was “give me a break, judge; i’m an orphan”. – whoever wrote that joke should have come forward to sue bush and president cheney for copyright infringement.

  87. wildweezle says:

So, how can you tell if the President made his point last night?

The health insurers are whinning this morning that the “president failed to tackle medical expenses”!

Thats when you know he made his point….

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090910/pl_bloomberg/aatf5mqa3qe

  88. Sam says:

I loved the President’s speech but why are we not talking about the crazy notion that our health payments should not be allowed to be a capitalistic machine? Why is it that we should even allow companies to make money on paying our health care bills? Sure they negotiate a little on our behalf, but give me a break. How would we feel if our Fire and Police Departments were privatized. Better yet, what if an organization was created to simply pay our Fire and Police Depts on our behalf. They would charge us a premium and negotiate rates with firemen and policemen. WTF? Would this make sense? Isn’t this essentially what health care insurance companies are?

  89. snowbeltliberal says:

Why doesn’t Rep. Joe Wilson just shave his head, trade in his Brooks Brothers suits for tees and jeans, and change his last name to “DaPlumber”?

  90. Deb says:

#89 – in some communities, the fire and police dept are privitized – scary.

  91. flombaye says:

88: what a refreshingly extreme improvement from “the great excommunicator”. – obama was deliberate about making it so simple that children could grasp it. the point was very penetrating. it is only with propagandic intent that certain repugs are trying to sit on it.

  92. shāf says:

Great use of the Invader Zim drop.

    Please, no Nazi-loving Scott (Scottzi).

  93. Skyhawk says:

As he said it’s the season for action, I really hope the Dems will pull through.

  94. Sam says:

Another thing, insurance companies remind me of pimps. They do none of the work. They are just there to pimp the whores (doctors) while they pull in all the money and pay the doctors a percentage (small) of what they get. Why should the CEO of an insurance company make so much more than a doctor (who actually does the work)?

  95. scooter says:

Did Mama just abort RW Scott?

  96. shāf says:

Charlie Rangel was having a great time. ;)

  97. Kathy says:

Those Republican congressmen were waving their birth certificates . . .

  98. Derrick says:

The sad thing is that Wilson will probably receive a heros welcome in some places.

  99. flombaye says:

90: must you be so “september tenth” ? oops. nevermind.

  100. Sam says:

#89 yes, in very small communities where it actually works. No major city or even heavily populated area has private insurance companies.

  101. Mike DiMatteo says:

To Joe Wilson and his vile comrades in and out of Congress: thanks for once again demonstrating why the republican’t party, its’ incompetent leadership, deranged constituency, and greedy corporate agenda have been proven vastly unworthy of and dangerous to the US Constitution, The American People, and a Sustainable National Destiny.

Moreover, Joe Wilson and all the rest of the brainless, toothless yelping dogs of the republican’t party, are much more than obvious liars. They are miserable failures and a hideous blight upon our Government and Nation.

So vast and onerous is the republican’t failure, that it will surely take the remaining years of the next decade before the latest republican’t disaster of government is repaired, as always, by competent Democratic leaders and competent Democratic governance committed to the good of the American People.

As the tangible consequences of former republican’t governance continue to wreak havoc upon our national economy, even the most trusting citizens can clearly see the continuing damage resulting from criminally incompetent republican’t rule. This is the truth that must no longer be surpressed by the network snoozemedia.

The republican’t coalition of the rich and the stupid has finally become untenable. If the truth prevails, the future, once again, will belong to the American People not global corporations, propagandist media lackeys, or their vile republican’t congressional handpuppets like Joe Wilson.

The enemies of Senator Kennedy, Speaker Pelosi, and President Obama are truly the enemies of our Nations health and economic future.

    They shall never prevail.

  109. my pooer's dad says:

People used to pay volunteer fire departments “insurance” to protect their homes. They would put iron plates that showed the home owners paid for coverage (our history museum in St. Louis has many of these plates on display). When the fire department was called out, if they didn’t see the plate on the home, they would just let it burn down. Eventually, we figured out that we needed better fire protection than that – probably after the whole city of St. Louis almost burned down from embers from a steamboat.

  110. Deb says:

  154. I could pick quite a few politicians I’d like to throw a shoe at… but if possible, I’d like to use one of those bronze covered baby-shoes!

  155. 158… I concur! The only thing these bastards are going to use an olive branch for is to beat democrats over the head with lies!

  156. I’ve heard that “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” crap all my life from Republicans, most of whom never did an honest day’s work in their lives.

Many of the people needing health care the most have nothing to pull up. That rugged individualist bullshit only goes so far. EVERYONE ought to have health care. Like the rest of the civilized countries on the planet!

The goddam Republicans have only one purpose in their lives, to promote the wealthy, and further enrichment of the rich. I’ve had it with them.

  157. flombaye says:

159: watch out. danielle is reaching for the depleted bronze.

  166. Really, while Obama may be playing chess etc. I’m weary of the silly notion that Repubs should be involved – they have nothing constructive to contribute. In reality, they are determined to oppose EVERYTHING, hoping to deny Obama and the Democrats any achievements. Meanwhile, screw the country! I say screw these guys.

  167. flombaye says:

  188. spiffyhussein says:

#188—Yes, I agree. He said “lie”. No euphemisms. How refreshing.

My favorite line was “The time for game playing is done.”

That’s the thing that disgusts me about politics. So many of them play games with our lives.

  189. flombaye says:

#27—Internet retaliation that I know not of. Now I know. Will check Wiki pages now after these events to see the fun. ;-)

  197. Shane-o, I’ve got some great “Liar” songs, but I have no idea how to edit the funny bits out. Perhaps I should send them to you to play with, should you have the need for a new liar drop. (I doubt that it will be long before a new one is needed…)

  198. Deb says:

The repugs aren’t our friends, or even friends of the country or their constituents. They work for the insurance companies.

  202. k to the g says:

  203. spiffyhussein says:

#40: You wrote: “No Universal Healthcare mentioned.”

The Pres. explained, rightly so, that if he did what the progressives want, single payer, it would be too disruptive to our present system. Now you can disagree with him on that, but I also think that single payer immediately would not only be disruptive but lose many Dems their jobs in 2010.

He is a politician, but at least Obama really gets input from the people about what kind of BS we’ve been dealing with out here for decades.

  204. flombaye says:

201: good moanin spiffy. you posted a Q just as i left yesterday. i would not have intentionally left you hanging. A: there are two well known entities sporting the name “the family”. one of them is charles manson’s kindreds and acolytes. – one is a conspiratorial group in D.C. who will cut deals with anybody at all for monetary gain. – i do not know how much crossover there is in their memberships. – the mansonites tend to be identifiable by their dune buggies and incredibly sturdy luggage.

  205. Shane-O says:

Dani – sure, send them. Also, I can probably help you with learning how to edit them yourself (if that’s something you’d like to try?)

  206. my pooer's dad says:

Hello RWNs out there. Please, if you have an idea on how to reform healthcare, let us know what it is so we can go to your town hall meetings and yell. My congressman is Tod Aikin. I don’t think he’s had an original idea since he was elected.

  210. k to the g says:

  211. spiffyhussein says:

#54—-Yes, that is correct. Lawsuits account for about 1% of HC costs. But the Rethuglicans have adopted this issue because it doesn’t cost them a thing and it protects their rich contributors, some of whom are doctors.

  212. spiffyhussein says:

#212—Did you get the job? ;-)

  213. Republicans are simply spoiled brats. As long as everything is going their way, they are tolerable. That not the case, they throw a fit, kicking and screaming. (I have a cure for that behavior, applicable to the Repubs, since they are acting like rotten little snot nosed brats.)

And Obama was wrong, the insurance companies deny claims because they ARE EVIL GREEDY corporations.

  214. 209 The Family aka the C Street Creeps… they practice
    the Devil’s Christianity… I kid you not.

What do you call it when their heros are Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot,
Stalin? They apparently all have trists with their mistresses
while mouthing ‘Christian’ ‘Family Values’ platitudes… the
‘Church’ teaches that ‘Jesus’ has Chosen them to Lead and so
they can do no wrong… literally. The Rules are for us rubes.
The Ten Commandments don’t apply to members of “The Family”.
They are the ones btw who put on the “Presidential Prayer
Breakfast” every year. A clear violation of the separtation
of Church and State. see also:

  215. spiffyhussein says:

#204—LOL. We were wondering what those were too. They looked so freakin’ stupid doing that.

Someone said it was a copy of their bill. They have a plan now. They have a plan!!! The dog ate their H/W before, but now they have a plan.

Their plan no doubt plans on increasing Ins. Co. profits on our backs.

  216. spiffyhussein says:

#218—Obama was being generous and kind to the Ins. Companies when he said that.

  217. k to the g says:

    218. But unfortunately insurance co’s are 1/6 of our economy and have to be dealt with skillfully.

  218. Shane-o, I’d love any opportunity to learn from ya’! :) I just wish you were close enough to learn in person! :)

  219. spiffyhussein says:

I always try to remind them that Jesus said: take up thy cross and follow Me. They don’t cotton to the idea of giving away their wealth to the poor..

Jesus would be strung up as a maggot infested hippy if He showed up here today.

  222. 217 Spiff I had to grovel and beg and plead because one of the
few janitorial accounts I have left was about to be taken away…

because a moron temp worker started leaving rude, insulting
notes to the bank manager and tellers, asking them if they
left their own homes like pig-stys or commenting on who
raised them… no guarantee we’ll keep cleaning, but I can’t
afford to lose another account, especially over something
sofreakingdumb… the company is almost dead, and new cleaning
accounts just aren’t out there. I’m losing a big software firm
this week, they are moving out of state… wah wah wah everybody
    is hurting here…

  223. spiffyhussein says:

LOLOL–OMG, when they played that stinger of “you lie!” I just had a vision of creating a thing with Wilson’s clip spliced with that one.

But Shane-O can make that in minutes. It would take me hours.

  224. my pooer's dad says:

Yikes! Everybody. I need your help.

I listen to WBBM Chicago when I wake up in the morning. I thought the president’s speech was great. Lo and behold, I wake up to WBBM news radio saying things like:

    1) people are going to be forced into the government option because employers will drop coverage.
    2) the Democrats are going to cut Medicare benefits.
    3) and quoting the Republican rebuttal saying that Obama’s plan is government run medical care.

I couldn’t believe the regular news had spinned this so badly that the message was exactly the opposite of what the President said. This wasn’t even Rush Limbaugh or FOX it was WBBM news!

Can you do me a favor and please email WBBM and protest their spreading confusion about the President’s plan? This is Chicago and the radio stations should support the President or put their opinions in an editorial not the news.

    Thanks a million!!!!

One would think the temp would know that.

I hope you gave the temp agency a piece of your mind.

Let’s see, where is there a messy town near you that needs cleaning? Chicago? How do you feel about Minnesota. Minneapolis is a very clean town but perhaps that’s because they hire a lot of your businesses?

shaft along with white cockroaches and red stringworms
full of AIDS and bursts of foul gas with no sunrise
and the morning streets full of preachers begging
for money and fondling themselves with gangs of fat
young boys trailing after them… ”

My favorite part of Obama’s speech was that he actually used the L-word (Lies) to describe the GOP’s ‘death panels’ talking point. Peggy and I said “It’s about time!”

  253. spiffyhussein says:

#209—I’ve only heard of the Manson’s Family and some religious cult called The Family. I don’t think they have intermingled have they?

I also loved the approach of calling out GOP proposals that Obama would seriously consider (including HHS piloting cost-saving initiatives that were proposed by GWB and a proposal made by Sen. John McCain.

  301. k to the g says:

    317. Mama?

  302. Joe Prato says:

I really dislike the excuse of racism for the reason right wingers hate Obama. It is too easy of an excuse to explain their behavior. Their heads are exploding because he is a intelligent, reasonable, progressive minded person that is absolutely beating the snot of them and could quite possible send their party back into the last century where they came.

  303. Derrick says:

He looks and breathes heavily, just like Rush Limbaugh.

  304. flombaye says:

there’s the answer. obama is playing basketball against bobby fischer.

  320. while I dozed, sparta came. I yield to thee SkyHawk, and reveal my inner self!

  321. 334- The problem is that those already convinced by the bs lies either did not watch the speech or simply decided everything Obama said was a lie… Wilson’s comment not helping with the latter point…

That’s my personal frustration… how do you debate with someone when they simply decide not to see reality. How do you continue arguing with someone who says a fact is a lie? How do you force people to be respobsible, intelligent, citizens?

I hate to say it, but perhaps the fact that “Survival of the fitest” no longer applies will be the down fall of our civilized society. The stupid people breed faster…. we’re doomed!

  322. Ron "McLovin" Luce says:

    >> my pooer’s dad says:

    Yep, caller was a Tenth-er.

  342. Ron "McLovin" Luce says:

On the NPR after speech show, some GOPer was saying how the government can’t do anything right and cited the DMV and the Post Office as dismal failures.

Not in my book! I’ve used DMB in Oregon, Washington and California (about 10 years ago.)

IT WAS A HELL OF A LOT BETTER RUN THAN A HEALTHCARE COMPANY!

For starters, when I filled out the forms and gave them my money, they then didn’t arbitrarily deny my license!

And the Post Office? Always shorter lines than my local KMart! Best yet, I mostly never need to go in. A post office guy will come to my house and pick-up a $0.44 item. That’s fantastic!

  343. rlritt says:

  348. Ron "McLovin" Luce says:

Yeah, it’s called the commerce clause! Those of use who went to school before Reagan de-funded education learned about it in 9th grade.

Who was the single goofball who shouted at the president?

What where those wads of paper some of the congressmen where waving at the camera?

  353. The Repub plan is to require everyone to have insurance, paid for at the insurance company. And insurance companies can’t refuse to insure anyone, although they can charge as much as they want to…

In other words, enrich the insurance companies some more.

  354. I’d like to know what 85% she’s talking about… I work in the industry and I’ve never heard anyone say “I am so greatful for my wonderful healthcare plan…” ever. at all.

  367. Ron "McLovin" Luce says:

I was listening to the “Stephcast” of yesterdays show and Roland Burris described the “trigger” differently than I understand it.

He said a “trigger” was when an INDIVIDUAL CONSUMER couldn’t get health care. It would set off a trigger and allow him into government insurance.

Could that be right? Did I misunderstand him?
