Less time than it took for the second plane to hit the second tower or the third plane to hit the Pentagon or maybe even the FOURTH plane that crashed in PA? A: All we had to do was go after the planes that turned their transponders off, which is standard operating procedure for NORAD. The nearest base to Washington DC, PA or New York City? I am going to go with Andrews, in Maryland. Washington DC is 12 miles away. York Pa is 90 miles, which at 1785 mph is about 181 seconds. New York City is 77 miles from McGuire, which means it is actually LESS than 3 minutes away in an X-15. So yes, they could easily get there if they had been ordered to do so.
