Number #1 Radio Progressive Morning Show, THE STEPHANIE MILLER SHOW

CARBONITE

LiveBlog for Wednesday, August 12, 2009

amprogPeter Harbage, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, calls in at 6:30am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

schwartzRep. Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) calls in at 7:30am Pacific to talk about health care reform.

• At a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire yesterday, President Obama complained about opposition scare tactics against a proposed health care overhaul, but said failing to fix the problems in the current system would be the scariest outcome of all.

A hostile crowd shouted questions and made angry statements yesterday at a town hall meeting on health care in Pennsylvania led by Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA). At one point, Specter shouted into his microphone that demonstrators disrupting the proceedings would be thrown out.

• Under criticism for appearing extravagant, the House of Representatives is dropping a plan to make the Pentagon buy more civilian-style jets than it requested. The jets would have been used to transport D.C. officials, including members of Congress.

Former White House adviser Karl Rove was deeply involved in the firing of a U.S. attorney in New Mexico, according to White House e-mails and transcripts of closed-door testimony released yesterday.

  1. Steph sighting:

The Daily Show used a clip of Stephanie last night (without identifying her) from her appearance last week on CNN, where she said that Hillary did the work while Bill got the credit. It’s at 0:22 in this link:

    Morning Tim

    What happened to Mama’s bangs?

    Gooood morning all!

A legendary Boston rock station was put out of its misery early this morning

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WBCN

While it may exist as an “HD” subchannel, I think that audience can be counted on one hand.

An adult contemporary station took its place, and in the place of that station will be what Boston sorely needs, ANOTHER sports (and probably Reich Wing tainted) yakker, but this one infesting the FM band.

CBS needs to go bankrupt and die already.

  3. flombaye says:

2: here’s a cultural gem thrown out onto the airwaves yesterday. i didnt catch the guy’s name, a sub for mark levin: “the elites hate sarah palin for her ordinariness. everyday people relate to her.” – yeppers. crappy radio stations seem other than accidental.

  4. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

Thanks for pointing out Mama on the Daily Show, Tim.
‘morning Paul. What a temperature outside, huh? Why aren’t you sleeping?

Jon Stewart and his writers pull from Mama all the time. Time to invite her on the show, Jon.
In fact, Mama and the Mooks on the Daily Show sounds like a good idea. Where is that guy trying to kill Mama for the life insurance? He needs to make some calls.

  5. trojanrabbit says:

    4

Kinda hard to break habit, Carol. If it makes any difference, I’m liveblogging from bed. Seeing as I was awake at 2AM this morning, I think I’ll be here a while.

I think Mama would have to write a book first for Jon to ask her on the show.

  6. flombaye says:

5: robojiggles rarely used her own product, but the baldwins she hired had delivered a groggy but somehow clearly functional keith olbermann in fairly good condition, and she was determined to exploit the situation. “say, uberman, put down that beaver stack, and get my beaver stuffed !”

  7. flombaye says:

unconscious prescience from michael wiener back in 2008 nov:
an accidental prediction that for being successful,
OBAMA (a competent white man) would be called a racist:

  8. flombaye says:

michael savage has been missing for a coupe of months. he’s always so amusing. any way we can get him back into the spotlight ?
has glenn beck stolen the “most crazinessfullest mofo” throne ?
i would like to suggest a compromise that’s good for everybody.
please observe the screech beginning to hatch about 4 and a half minutes in, and the more cartoonish rendition also at 5:18 into the clip, as cenk playfully delivers a vocal tribute of the same …. it seems within the bounds of technology, that beck’s “get off my phone” and wiener’s “burn a mexican flag” can be worked together into a catchy musical “puffy white male off”.

  9. Well, just wanted to do a drive by to say hello. The system’s way to over loaded today to justify the live blog.. will be listening…

    Have a great day!!

  10. I could use a robojiggles.

  11. Dan The Man says:

    ‘Morning Blog!

Happy Birthdays to George Hamilton (70), and to Steph’s sometimes guest Michael Ian Black (38). Also character actor Jim Beaver is 59 today!

  12. LeftCenter says:

Good morning, live blogospherians! Including today, only seven more days shows until I go back to work, and I may miss next Thursday to be my mom’s chauffeur one more time before we go to a weekend schedule for that.

Some Dems are learning how to handle the rowdies at their town hall meetings, but I have to give credit to President Obama. He laid it all out at his yesterday.

  13. LeftCenter says:

    It’s Miller Time!

  14. Buenas dias, Todos.

TR, just what is needed, another goddam sports station.. My satellite TV has been pestering me to death about sports packages, I finally just got rude about it and told them the next time they called my house, I was changing providers.

I think I also said something about a football up the guy’s ass..

  15. LeftCenter says:

Even better was the RWNJ blogger who said Stephen W. Hawking would not be alive today if he were under the British health care system!

  16. The effectiveness of hate radio on the missing chromosome crowd is well demonstrated.

  17. Wazzup All?????!!!!! Hope yer all doing OK. Me? Fine and Dandy, like dime store Candy.

  18. flombaye says:

A CHANCE AT A LIMBAUGH MULLIGAN
this kid has been in the spotlight about a year i guesss, but this is fairly fresh material (2009 june 24). – and the kid (johnathan) is, to put it delicately, much too old (at 14) to be walking around so spectacularly out of the info loop. the turks provide some lenient and merciful perspective on johnathan’s behalf, but inevitably, one comes away aware that in all probability, johnathan’s only chance is “start over therapy”. – and that’s where rush comes in. rather than just harping on the chronic excuse of having his entire half-brain packed tightly into his posterior region, rush could save butt by quietly crawling all the way in, and letting young johnathan be the new lightning rod for way overdue epiphanies. as rush has admitted, 58 years gone, with a success track record consisting of:….. mmmmm a last-ditch dieting attempt that damn well better work, or rush is going to get hungry…. “believe me, you wouldnt like me when i’m hungry ! …. mister snerdley, out of my way !” – - – anyway, brace yourself. this kid is MUCH too old to be so uninformed, and much too young to have cultivated such a useless porcinality.

  19. Karl Rove, say hello to your new friend: JAIL!!!!!!

  20. trojanrabbit says:

16 But that editorial eventually got changed. Dumbass didn’t know Hawking was British.

  21. scooter says:

Since he’s now longer at the White House I’ve had to amend my dream. Now I’d like to see Karl Rove frogmarched out of the Faux News studios.

  22. LeftCenter says:

#21 As Olbermann said, he probably didn’t know it because his voice synthesizer doesn’t have a British accent.

  23. trojanrabbit says:

Wonder how quickly that gun nut would find himself at Gitmo if it was a Bush speech.

  24. AmyL says:

Who would sit on the hypothetical, completely fictitious Death Panels? Darth Vader? Bad Horse (from Dr. Horrible)? Dexter?

  25. #22 That might actually be BETTER.

  26. Tony says:

Good morning all. Did you hear about the nutjob who showed up at the Obama town hall meeting with a weapon? Unbelievable. He is lucky a bunch of automatic weapon toting Secret Service agents didn’t throw him to the ground or more!

Anyway, there is good news. Economists around the world are a lot more optimistic and they are predicting growth in the third quarter. One of the factors behind that growth?

The stimulus package, which if you listen to jokers like Boehner, is ineffective and budget busting.

Cash for clunkers by itself will add 0.5 percent to GDP in the third quarter and it also boosted fuel efficiency.

I blogged about it, so head over to my site if you want.

In any case, it is another case of the right wing nuts having it completely wrong. When it comes to economics, do exactly the opposite of what they say and it will likely turn out well.

  27. So I wonder how many new heavy metal bands have recently named themselves “DEATH PANEL”?

  28. scooter says:

One would think that Steph would have learned to pronounce “Krug” years ago while drinking the products of the Charles Krug Winery. But then I guess their wine didn’t come in boxes?

  29. flombaye says:

21: yep, that’s dumbassery in action. must have gotten him mixed up with that american wheelchair-bound physicist, stephen hawpresident.

  30. Wasn’t the bit about Hawking in the (greatly respected?) WSJ editorial? Who checks on this sort of crap?

  31. #25 Sounds like a job for Dick Cheney.

  32. LeftCenter says:

Was it in the WSJ? I didn’t catch where it was from, but it WAS priceless.

  33. trojanrabbit says:

    31
Don’t know. But I know it was in Investor’s Business Daily

  34. LeftCenter says:

    #34 Yeah, now I remember. That’s it.

  35. LeftCenter says:

    GOPree?

  36. flombaye says:

25/28: a death panel is probably also what sarah palin has on one wall of the closet, where the LBDs and hellenic strapped shoes are kept, for when it’s time to DRESS TO KILL.

  37. The success of the Cash for Clunkers program suggests to me that the “silly” notion of bailing out the general public instead of the banks with the $700B stimulus could have been a lot more effective. All that money would quickly enter the economy, and people would pay their homes off and jobs would be created!

I know, I know. It’s simplistic and stupid and would have caused major problems with such things as inflation.

But I notice the same people who are so upset at a stimulus effect on American automobile industry and encouragement toward more fuel efficiency with it will happily piss away massive amounts to enrich the bankers who brought the mess on.

  38. I’m here

  41. Skyhawk says:

    Morning folks.

  42. I was going to inform the Repugs that the Death Panels were indeed coming, and after they were finished with Granny and Gramps, they’d REALLY lower the cost of health care by next going after people who develop Type II diabetes after age 50!

  43. LeftCenter says:

Well, there goes my chance at Sparta today…Skyhawk and Shane-O are both here!

  44. Shane-O says:

    #45 – Left, I’ve never gotten Sparta

  45. since I’m more Irish than anything else I feel like I can say this
ah, the Irish! the happy, drunken Irish… fighting, drinking…
drunken Paddy, lying outside in a stupor all night, still there on

  46. iTunes at work seems only to be for SMS. hmm…

    Hiya, Bloggoes!

  47. LeftCenter says:

    #46 Oops…sorry.

  48. Thank you Mr President for spelling it out!
Tell these Rethug morons how it is.

The Greedheads have been reaping us and they don’t want to quit.
That’s what this is all about, nothing more.

  49. 42 thank you Shane-O

  51. gpo6 says:

Is Barack Obama a commentator on National news and other issues,

    or is he The President??

  52. LeftCenter says:

#52 Nor use YouTube in your classroom.

  53. Skyhawk says:

45 – LC today could be your lucky day. I’ll be in and out the blog due to client calls.

  54. 53 — As the President, surely he is allowed to comment on issues of national importance?

  55. trojanrabbit says:

    the liveblog is new?

yeah i dont hear the live stream that often. how about some new ads, eh?

  56. annyboddy seen Unicorn Avenger or Narwhal Avenger?

very cool, gonna sic em on RW Tooles everywhere

  57. LeftCenter says:

Yay! I have a chance! (It is my goal in life to hit Sparta as often as possible during my brief 2.5 months here each summer.)

  58. Barack is President, but he has to go on TV to explain to morons with age 12 communication skills that all the ridiculous crap they’re hearing is ridiculous.

  59. LeftCenter says:

#57 Just as long as they don’t bring back the tinnitus ad.

  60. 57 — It does no favors to the Voice Deity when the president is supposed to be speaking and it sounds NOTHING LIKE BHO.

    We’re not gonna take it.

  61. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

    Morning Board!

  62. flombaye says:

47: i love your commercials ! – “always after me lucky charms ! i’ll make a los angeles police squad and tenderize them !” – off the set, do you and those predatory little kids actually get along swimmingly ? just wondering.

  63. George Bush: humuclous, or Blumpkin fairy?
the wife of the then heir to the Bush family gave
birth in the compound to a boy so hideously deformed
that the family took the decision to lock the child
away in a secret room, until his chance to succeed
to the Presidency. Malformed though he was the hideous
infant proved to be surprisingly long-lived. Supposedly
he survived well into the twenty first century,
leaving the Presidency only in the 2004, and knowledge
of his existence became the dark secret of the Bush
family, passed down from father to son just before
the boy came of age at 21.

  64. LeftCenter says:

Anybody catch the guy with the gun on Hardball last night? Mathews was like a bulldog with him. Surprise, surprise! He voted for Ron Paul.

  65. LeftCenter says:

Now, what I’m trying to figure out is if he’s talking about the primary or if he wrote in Paul’s name…or if he’s talking about a different election than 2008.

  66. 64 must… have… more coffee in order to answer that.
    synapses not snapping yet.

    In the meantime,
Stephanie Miller, I’d like to remind you that
it’s illegal to put squirrels down your pants for
    the purpose of gambling.

  67. flombaye says:

68: is the SMS liveblogger ferret-legging tournament still on ?

  68. trojanrabbit says:

We call it Cow-Hampshire for a reason

  69. This guy is a “senior fellow”? He sounds like he’s THIRTEEN.

  70. LeftCenter says:

What’s hard to believe is that anybody can be that stupid.

  71. flombaye says:

70: californis actually has a “vacavile”, and it’s only 60 miles from the real sacramento.

  72. LeftCenter says:

    He’s a guy?

  73. flombaye says:

73: okay, i meant “VACAVILLE”, but freud is the doctor here.

  74. Shane-O says:

    #71 – Maybe he’s Ethan punk’n Steph ;)

  75. 71 — He’s a kid genius!

It’s worth noting that Doogie Houser became Dr. Horrible.

    Just sayin’

  76. LeftCenter, the guy was a good example of why we need handgun control. Oh yes, I know all about the 2nd Amendment, have hunted all my life, and still own half a dozen guns. But that asshole was simply being a complete jerk about it with his in your face attitude.

Chris Matthews referred to “bringing a goddam gun”, which I felt was completely appropriate to the situation.

As Steph pointed out, when GW was Presnet, people were arrested for wearing T-shirts when GW appeared. Now this ignorant asshole shows up with his gun and a sign saying “It is Time to Refresh the Tree of Liberty”, clearly a reference to assassinating Obama.

    I’m sick of these bastards.

  77. Tony says:

Ivan…stimulus doesn’t work if the financial system collapses. That’s why the TARP was necessary, and keep in mind that a lot of banks are paying it bank AND the government is making a profit.

  78. LeftCenter says:

Let’s just tell it like it is. These people a morons.

  79. flombaye says:

76: heathen punkins are delicious. by the way, you’re invited to the wickerdude thing we’re doin. (you ARE a virgin, right?)

  80. #76 HAH!!!! It IS Ethan!!!!!

  81. Shane-O says:

the public option that doesn’t start until 2013…

  82. I was just thinking of the numbers.

We pay 175% of what other civilized countries pay per capita on health care.

A private plan charges 145%, on average, what a public plan charges.

Put another way, 60% of the difference in cost between our too-expensive system and a civilized country’s system is the overhead that is unique to for-profit health insurance.

So when people say, “we can get rid of the public option, but we re-regulate the insurance companies, and it’ll still be a good bill”, you can tell them they’re full of crap. You can’t address cost until you address that 60% of the overcharging that comes from insurance company overhead.

  83. HEY!!!!! Steph stole my joke!!!!!

  84. Tony says:

Paying it back, even. Anyway, I would say that the TARP was a good use of government money because it worked and stabilized the financial system AND the government is profiting.

  85. flombaye says:

very disappointing about the remake of the wickerdude movie – i heard that they changed it from scary and grotesque to killing off nicolas cage.

  86. 69 I believe so. I wearing nothing but ferrets as I type,
AND it’s for the purpose of gambling…

  87. Tony says:

Re: health care costs. If you want to reduce them, you’ve got to change the system. Right now, it is fee for service, so doctors and hospitals have every incentive to run every test and prescribe every treatment for a patient.

    That needs to change.

  88. flombaye says:

89: it’s like having a sun-worshipping daniel boone doing a lucky charms commercial.

  89. LeftCenter says:

All right! Just what I need! Tattoo removal!

  90. Rethug Town Hall Tea Bagging morons don’t
want a dialog to find the best way to reform
health care, they have been programmed to
kill health care reform to benefit the scum
at the top who have been raping us and wish
    to continue… HowDumbCanYouBe!??

  91. LeftCenter says:

#93 You just answered your own question.

  92. Shane-O says:

#85 – actually, that is dealt with separately in the bill (HR 3200) – they’re going to set the medical loss ratio for insurance companies – so, if the amount taken in from premiums and cost-sharing, minus claims paid, exceed the medical loss ratio set by the government, the insurance cos. must rebate that money to their members. (Sections 116 and 161)

  93. Wouldn’t it be great if MSNBC ran ‘Sicko’ in constant rotation every weekend for the next few weeks (instead of all those dreadful prison shows).

  94. #87, the TARP would have been a good idea if the money hadn’t been plowed into acquisitions and paying off credit default swaps. And there’s a lot more to TARP than the tax money – the Fed invented trillions out of thin air to pay down a lot of the bogus CDS paper. That’s going to show up as inflation down the line.

In the end, TARP was only marginally successful – meaning it was massively wasteful, and designed to let the same goons that caused the crisis to profit from it. The correct solution would have been to place the banks in receivership, let the CDS holders eat their losses, and only release the banks back into private hands once they had been restructured, split back into their pre-Gramm entities (keeping commercial, investment, and consumer banking separate), and regulated back all to hell.

But they weren’t, mainly because the Rubinomics and Goldman-Sachsers own Congress and the White House.

  95. 97 — I was thinking they should show that movie. I hope they do.

  96. #96, what are they capping it at? Please say “95%”.

  97. cindy from Boston says:

    good morning!

  98. trojanrabbit says:

end of life provisions. unless you’re Terry Schaivo.

  100. SNL
    Turlington’s Lower Back Tattoo Remover

    http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/turlingtons-lower-back-tattoo-remover/1087962/

as used by Stephanie Miller after returning from her Jamaica vacation…

  101. 80: Tony, I know that. But the banks might not collapse if people were paying their mortgages with the exploding balloon. Of course, the stimulus had to bail out the banks, understood.

It just torques my jaw, the Repubs really wouldn’t mind seeing the entire country suffer, if it would provide a chance to bust unions. That’s really what their problem is with the American auto industry, it has nothing to do with the classical issues of product and demand. The illustrious American people made the Ford F150 pickup the largest selling vehicle on the planet, it had zero to do with fuel economy considerations, most of these are configured as big hog ass vehicles, with the big V8s. That’s what the market demanded, and it is what the industry produced!

Suddenly, this same group of hypocrites who bought the biggest hog SUVs and pickups and over-engined cars are whining that they couldn’t afford gas for them when the international oil corporations put the screws to the market last time.

Yes, I know that we had to see the Japanese come out with fuel efficient hybrid cars and do that development, but that sort of thing is pretty well standard in this country nowadays. We certainly couldn’t take any long term view, it could cost some investments for development, which wouldn’t be returning 20% after 6 months!

Sad, it will continue. We’ll eventually see fusion power plants, and they will not be developed in this country. We’ll be buying them from the French, certainly from Europe.

After all we certainly wouldn’t want to make any real investments in R & D in this country when there is no immediate return..

  102. trojanrabbit says:

    Gooood morning Cindy!

Do I sound awake enough for you?

  103. Skyhawk says:

Can’t we all just agree that there are cats that look like Hitler and leave it at that.

  104. 91 how’d ya know I have on my coonskin cap?

  105. Shane-O says:

#100 – you’d have to read the sections — it isn’t, nor should it be a one-size fits all. Will vary based on the size of the company, start-ups will get a bit of a break (to encourage new insurance cos. to enter the market to compete) and geographic considerations (overhead higher in NYC than Topeka, KS, for example)

  106. #87 Peter:

Do you think that TARP could’ve been funded by the $9 trillion we lost somewhere in Iraq?

  107. 95 yes, good point

the question was rhettoracle I guess

  108. Notice how half-heartedly the ADL and Simon Wiesenthal are denouncing the Nazi analogies, compared to their full-bore freak-out of the member-submitted anti-Bush ad in 2004 on MoveOn’s ad contest?

  109. trojanrabbit says:

She should have asked the f&*king bastards for some ID. If they weren’t from the district, shoot them.

  110. LeftCenter says:

However….she did end up answering questions by pulling them out of a fishbowl.

  111. Yeah, about as intelligent as the crowd at a Monster Truck Rally.

  112. #106, not if Bussard Polywell Fusion works out. That’s being developed here in the states.

  113. Skyhawk says:

We need hearings on media reform.

  114. cindy from Boston says:

Jim Roger Ailes can afford Cadillac care

  115. cindy from Boston says:

All amendments in the constitution are ONLY for white Republicans as far as they are concerned

  116. LeftCenter says:

Sean Hannity does NOT understand freedom of speech works both ways. Nobody from the right wing understands that.

  117. guys I know in Iraq right now
buddy leaving for Afghan in three weeks

two dirty wars still drag on with no end in sight

Rethugs still stinking wherever you look
    Flush/Hannity/Savage/etc still spouting their diarrhea

it’s making me tired, mebbe that’s whut they want
where’s my whiskey bottle? Here it is

  118. pjkool says:

Let’s get the history right about Nazi Germany. Hitler and his thugs, the Brown Shirts went after liberals, promoted a climate of extreme nationalism, persecuted homosexuals, perpetuated fear of a communist takeover and abolished trade unions. When Hitler took over, only Nazi’s were allowed to participate in the legislative process. Now tell me which party in 2009 America has policies that most resemble 1930’s Nazi Germany. We need to confront American right wing fascism now or we will be confronting it at on doorsteps in a few years. President Obama and the Democratic congressional leadership should call on the Republican party to control this runaway breakdown of order within their party. Americans have died in wars to preserve a system of civil discourse. The Republicans are promoting unpatriotic behavior.

  119. Tony says:

Okay, folks, I’m out. Have a good one and I’ll see you later.

  120. LeftCenter says:

They guy with the pocket knife and a gun in his car made it inside the school building before the Secret Service got him.

  121. How dare these Congressmen stand up for themselves!! This is Nazism, Socialism, no Nazism!

  122. It’s been another long night here, perched on the rim
of the great teeming crater that is this miraculous
modern post-industrial wasteland Detroit. As usual the
news is bad, and people around here are mean and edgy,
ready to snarl at any infraction of what they consider
    the rules of common courtesy.

  123. k to the g says:

WTF WTF WTF? Why can’t there be ground rules at these town meetings and why can’t everyone be told they will be escorted out if they start shouting down people? Can’t we even manage civil discourse in a public meeting in this country anymore? WTF?
    Morning all.

  124. The guy with the loaded gun got nowhere near. He was outside the security cordon, on private property with permission, and was carrying legally according to NH law. Nor is vaguely threatening language illegal; it has to be specific.

The SS had no authority to do anything other than keep him in the sight of a sniper rifle or three (which you can be sure they did). Though you can be sure he will be a “person of interest” from now on, and will be interviewed.

The guy was a turdbag. But unless he reached for that gun, he was nothing more than a turdbag. The thing about freedoms is that some people will abuse them, and the thing about democracy is that it will be messy. Freedom and democracy come with risk.

  125. #125, actually, the end of Iraq is very much in sight. According to the SOFA, ALL US troops (except the embassy security detail) must be out by the end of 2011.

only folding tents and convoying vehicles out to Kuwait.

  130. #136, I can’t argue with that. Aren’t they making it into two movies?

  131. 139 — that’s the plan! Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, and Hugo Weaving are already signed on!

  132. uh oh what’s going on with Stephanie?

    nice work

  133. k to the g says:

  134. Skyhawk says:

Have a lot of accidents do you Steph?

  135. #132 SERIOUSLY!! Simple rule: You Shout, You’re OUT!!

  136. Steph, if it’s just an accidental french kiss with Max why does it
last so long and repeated so often?

  137. trojanrabbit says:

Yeah, if i tried to french kiss my cat, i wouldn’t have a face left to french kiss with.

  138. LeftCenter says:

Actually it’s the dog who tries to French kiss you.

  139. cindy from Boston says:

    neither has that woman

  140. I started my notes for a major rant against Republican hypocrisy and lies, to expose their true motives.

So I have this very rough list so far:

    Right Wing Idiot Issues

    GREED
    denial of global warming/environment
    international corporate, big oil interests
busting unions/destruction of American car industry
    planet wide exploitation of resources/people/environment
    abortion/birth control/sex education
fear of universal health care (reduction of massive pharma and insurance company profits)
gun paranoia – “grabbers” want their gun binkies
prayer in school/posting of Ten Commandments
creationism, re-dubbed intelligent design – “Christian” fundie America biblical literalism
    denial of natural history
    birthers and deathers
racism – blacks, hispanics, Muslims, all “non-white, non-Christian”
    tax cuts for the wealthy
    free enterprise/capitalism
    war mongering/military spending
    torture
    “states” rights?!
    conspicuous Christianity! Overt false piety
    fears of homosexuality
fear of women – Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, etc.
    confused notions of socialism/marxism/communism/facism/nazism

  141. LeftCenter says:

What she meant to say is “many of us have not thoroughly read or researched.”

  142. Dan The Man says:

I thought that the free market was all about competition.

  144. Karl Rove go to jail
or better just go to hell

these Rethugs, I can’t spare the psychic energy required

  145. trojanrabbit says:

    154
No, she’s merely “tasting” you to let you know what will happen if you don’t service her right away.

  146. k to the g says:

Another thing Obama can do is turn loose the dogs of justice on Rove et al. That might make the wingnuts turn to defending that whole thing. Obama needs to go on the offensive.

  147. LeftCenter says:

#158 Democrats only know how to play defense, and they do so poorly at that.

  148. 152 good list Ivan
    they are simply EVIL
    sworn devoted servants of evil
the greedheads bought them up wholesale

it’s War against us all, an attempt to reduce
us to peonage, to destroy the rule of law and
    impose an oligarchy

  149. #156 Or better still; Karl Rove die a slow, painful death while IN jail.

  150. Shane-O says:

that whole buying insurance across state lines is CRAZY!

ask any doctor — insurance paperwork and dealing with ONE state’s set of regulation costs too much in admin fees as it is.

also – the idea that people could buy policies from states where insurance costs less is downright silly. Which do you think would happen: the competition would force priced down in the higher cost states, or, the cheaper insurance states’ premiums would go up?

    SINGLE PAYER!!!

  151. Stephy’s hoo-ha still has the safety seal on it
    Oh Steph!

  155. I never ever drive drunk; but, BOY HOWDY, I sure have biked drunk MANY times (pedal-powered, not the motorized kind).

  156. Years ago, I remember someone saying that a fitting end to Rush Limbaugh would be him buggered to death by a mountain gorilla. ;-/ How appropriate, based on his environment views!

  157. #166, in my freshman year in college, a suicidal squirrel dove into the transformer that powered the water pumps to the campus. We had no water on the dorms for two days.

Once the toilet was… full… a suitemate asked where he should go to the bathroom. I said, “use the shower”.

    I didn’t think I needed to explain I meant #1 and not hunky-doody.

    I was mistaken.

  158. k to the g says:

Got this in an email today:
“That’s why we’re asking you to attend Representative [xxx's] (brackets mine) town hall, and the rally beforehand, to show your support for President Obama and health insurance reform. THAT’S what we need to do.

OMG there is a recipy for roasted babies on page 283 of the health care bill!!!!!

  160. 169 here you can and often are arrested for walking or riding

  173. Amy outside of DC says:

Typical RW caller this morning on local radio, explaining all that’s wrong with healthcare. Then she went on to mention that she’s not racist, she supports Michael Steele. In fact, she was there the night he was pelted with Oreos (soemthing Steele himself denied ever happened).
The R in RW doesn’t stand for reality.

  174. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

That caller wasn’t trying to trap you guys. You assumed that he was an opponent of health care because if his accent.

  175. Skyhawk says:

  177. LeftCenter says:

#191 Of course what I pay over four months is also matched by my employer.

    192
Which, in effect, is also coming out of your pocket.

  179. Amy outside of DC says:

I just found out that we’re switching insurance next month. Supposedly it’s because Aetna raised their costs too much, I think it’s because I finally found a doctor I like who accepts my insurance.

  184. LeftCenter says:

  185. 194 — one thing that’s cool about Aetna — they are the only insurance company that understands that SRS can be medically necessary & will cover it.

  186. #196, yes, but there is a chi (spelled X).

  189. spiffyhussein says:

    Hello all SANE people.

I went to the Adam Schiff Town Hall last night and I wrote a blog about it. OMG, I’ll tell you more on the live blog if you want to hear it, but here’s my long story:

    http://spiffyhussein.livejournal.com/

  190. Reminds me of a joke.

A bar patron was demonstrating his knowledge of beers. As he tasted several, he perfectly identified them, even the obscure ones.

Finally, a drunk approached him with a glass and demanded, “Identify this!”

The beer expert took a taste and spit it out, yelling, “Why, man, that’s URINE!”

The drunk replied, “Yes. But WHOSE?”

  191. Indeed, not only is there an “X” in Christmas, there’s an “XP”. Notice, then, there is no “VISTA”.

  192. Skyhawk says:

Where in the hell was this lady when Bush was in office?

  193. The sleeping giant of 25% dead-enders?

  194. LeftCenter says:

Sleeping giant? That gal wasn’t that big.

  195. See, there’s nothing in the Constitution that prohibits “socialism” or “social democracy”.

  202. Common sense is not so common.

  203. #214, I wouldn’t mind “Socialist Sweden”. Especially if I’m given some government issued-blondes.

  209. Amy outside of DC says:

#221 Don’t forget they left God out of the Pledge of Alligence (under God was added during the 50s to distinguish us from the godless Commies).

  210. LeftCenter says:

The Pledge was written by some guy around the turn of the century. It wasn’t written by any government entity.

  211. Ya ya.. I’ll take the Elke Sommers model.

  212. LeftCenter says:

“The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855-1931), a Baptist minister, a Christian socialist, and the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850-1898). Bellamy’s original “Pledge of Allegiance” was published in the September 8th issue of the popular children’s magazine The Youth’s Companion as part of the National Public-School Celebration of Columbus Day, a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s discovery of America.”–Wikipedia

  213. I’ll take Elke Sommers for 200, Jim!

  214. k to the g says:

Let the town hall morons sign a waiver of any rights under the new health care bill before they leave the meetings and give them a copy to keep.

  215. LeftCenter says:

The pledge is a socialist document!

  216. #221, the Constitution never says that.

The Constitution says that House seats (and by extension, electoral votes) are determined by apportionment based on the number of free persons and 3/5th of the number of all other persons.

It doesn’t say that blacks are 3/5 of a person. It says that a slave-owner that has a household of 10 and 100 slaves only counts as 70 towards getting a Congressman and not 110. Ideally, he should have only counted as 10, since counting slaves AT ALL towards apportionment gives slave-owners, not the slaves, more representation in Congress and the Electoral College than they deserve.

  217. Amy outside of DC says:

#229 Don’t tell Sarah Palin. I heard her say that the founding fathers put God in the pledge.

  218. #221, the founders forgot to have a pledge at all. The pledge came about 150 years later.

  219. ..one nation, which God is highly pissed at, with liberty and justice for all..

  220. calikimk says:

#226– so the O M ummmmmm godless heathen :) ! can’t believe she just admitted she’s freaked out that our prez is black–she practically said it out loud

  221. Dianne says:

  223. Pledge – 1892, good to know. I was thinking it was a couple decades later.

  224. Amy outside of DC says:

He’s obviously not aware of Mama’s rack and the visual entertainment it provides lot of viewers.

  225. 239 o’course I ditint mean actual sex with her dogs, just
    a little heavy petting

  226. Habsberg says:

    Hey you Stephanie Miller,
I passed a sign that said “missing gray long hair 5 year old cat,” no picture. Please remind your listeners to take a mug shot of their pet so this doesn’t happen to them.

  227. I don’t know if I smoke after sex or not. It’s possible.

  228. LeftCenter says:

“…under God” was added in 1954.

  229. A trillion dollars? False. That was an early CBO estimate based on a partial bill that lacked the top marginal tax increases and the public plan. CBO estimates of a more complete bill show it to be revenue neutral.

  230. Amy outside of DC says:

It’s not really a “debate” when one side just screams and refuses to listen to the other side or ignknowledge any facts presented counter to their arguement.

  231. Habsberg says:

Are they spending lots of money to add “Under God” to the congressional visitors center this year?

  232. scooter says:

I happened to be watching MSNBC during one of Sen. Spector’s meetings yesterday and they were occasionally showing the proceedings live. At one point some wingnut yelled that the healthcare reform bill needs to voted on by the PEOPLE with a national referendum. Spector astutely replied that there is no provision for such a vote in the Constitution! And then the guy yelled that Spector needs to work to make it possible, bringing the crowd to its feet with much screaming and clapping.

So first the guy wants the defy the rule of law that has brought the USA this far, THEN wants Spector to go back to Congress and begin the process of AMENDING the Constitution.

Of course, maybe they don’t teach civics in Pennsylvania.

  233. k to the g says:

    244. smoke-detector condom – hey bet you’d pay a dollar for that :-D

  234. LeftCenter says:

#250 That might answer the age old question, “Do you smoke after sex?”

  235. #249, they don’t teach civics anywhere anymore. Conservatives made sure of that.

  236. Amy outside of DC says:

#249 I’m sure they do teach civics in Pennsylvania, but it’s easier to not pay attention in school or drop out and watch Fox News. Who needs education when you’ve got Limbaugh, Hannity, and O’Reilly tell you what to think? Limbaugh has said it before, leave the thinking to him.
I’m sure for some people thinking is too hard, parroting talk points is the way to go.

  237. k to the g says:

Stupidity/racism is a disease and can’t be cured with facts.

  238. jram says:

Can the democrats afford to NOT support Obama on health care? If this fails…2010 and 2012 elections will be VERY bad for democrats…whether they support it or not. This needs to pass, not just because we need health care reform, but because now it has become a HUGE political conundrum.

  239. “Conservatives” are too busy trying to get Intelligent Design taught as a legitimate science class..

  240. Amy outside of DC says:

#205 Nice blog. I’ve seen you in person, you are many pounds short of a cow.
And please post youtube links when you get the video up. You’ve made it sound very entertaining!

  241. #256, for the 2010 elections to look bad, people have to like the Republicans more than the Dems. But the Republican favorables drop just as fast as Dems, and they start with a 30 point deficit.

  242. spiffyhussein says:

#219—I want a gov’t issued blond male. That would be OK. ;-)

  243. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

  244. k to the g says:

Let’s all party when August is over and the mouth-breathers go back under their rocks to their sad lives, oh and watch for them on COPS.

  245. Amy, Limbaugh was a poor student even in high school. He frequently refers to it as “high screwl”. I suspect much of his problem was that he was such a slug that girls shunned him.

And, of course, he quickly flunked out of college.

  246. C’mon dude…. the West Virginia Town Hall was orderly cause everyone was drunk on moonshine.

  247. Will my government insurance pay for my Viagra?

  249. spiffyhussein says:

The thing I kwpt asking all the RWers last night after a while is, “What is your plan? If you don’t like what the Dems are creating, what is your side’s plan?”

They didn’t have answers for me. One guy said tort reform is going to save us billions of dollars, as if the real cost of health care is in the suing of doctors who screw up.

I was in such a bath of ignorance last night–such an inability to understand basic math. It was like subbing in a special education class.

  250. jram says:

#260 you are very right. I guess I worry a bit too much. Wing-nuts are just so friggin’ loud though…makes it seems like there are many more than there really are, thankfully….

  251. Spiffy, you needed to be fluent in Republican..

  252. trojanrabbit says:

    241

    Old ladies are dangerous. ;-)

272—I don’t want to. Please don’t make me talk to them again!!!!!

  255. scooter says:

    Re: the $750/yr. Canadian tax:

I’m not certain of the exact cost for our family’s healthcare insurance as there are alot of unknowns, but almost $4000 was deducted from my wife’s paycheck last year for two dependents. Presumably her wages were also lowered by at least $2000 to provide her with “free” employee healthcare. This means that our little family paid $6000 for insurance plus several more thousand for co-pays and minimally covered Rx drugs.

If universal healthcare were to lower our premiums down to $1000/yr./person this would boost our personal income more than all the Repug tax cuts enacted in my lifetime. Why can’t everyone in the middle class see this?

  256. Spiffy, old ladies fighting! I’d pay a dollar for that!

  257. #269, “frivolous medical malpractice suits” is a core myth or right-wing ideology.

  258. spiffyhussein says:

#267—Let’s put a provision in the bill that it won’t cover Viagra so they can yell about something else for a while.

  259. spiffyhussein says:

277—My friend was laughing when she told me about it. Our fighter, our Dem, she’s a strong lady. I’d bet on her.

  260. cindy from Boston says:

Ivan I think much of limbaughs issues are that he is gay and hasn’t come to terms with that … so he hates everything

  261. rodney says:

Yo!Has anyone read Sara Robinson’s “Is the U.S. on the Brink of Fascism?” yet? It’s right in target.

  262. spiffyhussein says:

259—You know what? It didn’t bother me that he called me a cow because it proved to me exactly what kind of people we are dealing with. All their ugliness came our, all their ignorance, and so now I know we are on the side of all that is good, right and holy in the world.

I was glad when he showed his true colors. These are people you just walk away from and leave them sputtering in their pig pens.

  263. As I pointed out yesterday, many people who have insurance at work haven’t looked to see what it actually costs. It’s like income tax, pre-extracted from the pay. And as another pointed out today, the employer contribution or matching actually comes out of the employee compensation as well.

The other issue is that many people with insurance are young enough to never have had to use it, or at least not in any major way. So they make a lot of assumptions about what is covered, and don’t really read the 100+ page information book provided them. Or they don’t really understand it.

What plays with so many people is some simplistic catch phrase, like “socialized medicine”.

    ………….

#276 I looked it up and we paid $2400 out-of-pocket copays in 2008 plus $1100 for prescription drugs. So that’s $9500 down the drain compared to a similar Canadian family paying probably $3000.

But I guess it’s worth it to live in the USA where we have the “finest healthcare system in the world.” Or so we’ve been told.

  275. spiffyhussein says:

I mean hot in temperature, not hot in good looking

  276. Skyhawk says:

I dedicate this Sparta to Left Center!

  277. LeftCenter says:

One nation, under sparta, with librarians and juice boxes for all.

  278. Shane-O says:

    sparta?

  279. spiffyhussein says:

    ahhhhh sparta!!!!!!

  280. A friend of mine owns several pr0n webcam studios in Latin America, thinking “pr0n is recession-proof!”. His credit card debts are now $50k.

  281. LeftCenter says:

    Yay skyhawk!

  282. Get sparta over with.. Get’er done.

  283. spiffyhussein says:

    Curses! Skyhawk gets it again.

  284. Shane-O says:

HA! Sky! – with a dedication even he hee.

  285. LeftCenter says:

    Thanks for the dedication, Skyhawk.

  286. Skyhawk, I reveal to thee my inner self. (Beneath the Planet of the Apes reference..)

  287. Damn that Skyhawk!!! Out Spartaed me again. This time I blame my lousy work PC.

  288. LeftCenter says:

#313 I blame my slow typing of the pledge.

  289. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

I was in the shower, and just walked in during that last bit, Disney and bestiality? What the hell was that about?

  290. Skyhawk says:

    *bows* humbly.

  291. Rocky, something about Minnie Mouse and her three fingered white gloves..

  292. LeftCenter says:

#315 Some guy was groping Minnie.

  293. The Chinese are going to be the bad guys.

  294. I wonder how long “American Idol” will last? I have a bad feeling that we’re stuck with it for LOOOOOOOOONG time.

  295. trojanrabbit says:

I shoulda added another SPARTA to 297.

    bows to Skyhawk’s Spartarifficness

  296. k to the g says:

Commies are coming 8-O only this time they’re Russian WOMEN!

  297. Most markets only have 2 insurance companies controlling the market.

  298. If Chris wasn’t doing such a great job with the bumper music, sometimes I’d like to slap that boy.. ;->

  299. #319 And they’ll be coming for all the $$$$$ we owe them.

  300. Dutch says:

    Best line from Red Dawn:
Darryl Bates: [he and the other Wolverines are gathering food, weapons and survival equipment from Robert Morris's father's store] And grab some toilet paper; I ain’t gonna use no leaves.

  301. spiffyhussein says:

Well, I gotta lot of stuff to catch up on today. Have a good day and seriously, write to your Reps, show them my blog if you want, and tell them to be like Adam Schiff on the Public Option. No wavering! These Republicans are cowards whenever you confront them.

My friend went over to two of them who kept yelling stuff and said, “I’m trying to listen to the panel. Can you please be quiet?” She said that twice and these two big guys shut up.

Do not be afraid of them.

  302. LeftCenter says:

Um…Producer Chris…You’re asking Steph to prove a negative. Hell, she has trouble proving a positive.

  303. LeftCenter says:

Wasn’t Adam Schiff the DA on Law & Order for years?

  304. Habsberg says:

319 Chinese can’t be bad guys cause they are helping to prop up the dollar. They could loose 2 trillion if they get in a scuffle with the US. The US would loose more than 2 trillion. Mexicans might celibrate.

  305. Obama’s audience wasn’t polite because it was screened. It was polite because it swarmed with cops and SS, and people tend to be on their best behavior around them.

It was also polite because of the President’s star power. A congressman has a smaller draw, meaning it’s easier for bussed-in loonies to pack the hall. A much greater portion of the “normal” population will jump to see the President than their congressman or Senator, meaning the loonies get crowded out by the throngs of sane people.

  306. #330, don’t look at me, I’m not writing the script!

  307. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

The right wing wackos have already replaced the Russian Enemy in their minds with the Democrats.

  308. #128 LeftCenter

Mad Props to Specter! Say what you will about his politics, at least he earned browny points for not giving ground to the ‘turfers!

Did anyone see that Bizarro tree that Glenn Beck was drawing? Scarborough called him on it!

I never knew Scarborough the Representative, but Scarborough the TV Host is most certainly the Honorable Enemy, who will pick up your sword and hand it to you if you dropped it!

He called the old wives’ tales tales what they were, and advises President Obama to stick to his message and not to give in to the yelling! It’s not comfortable, but on Morning Joe they argue ideas not horse race!

  309. LeftCenter says:

#334 That’s because Democrats are socialist communist nazi bedwetters. I know because I’m a Democrat.

  310. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

I’m off to work. See you all later.

  311. LeftCenter says:

At least once an hour Daisy T. Beagle comes in here and stands up with her paws on the arm of my chair and demands that I pet her for about two seconds. Then she leaves. I love that dog!

  312. karen in canton says:

Hey, I think this show stumbled upon the answer to this. The government should send out forms as part of this new health care option that let you opt out. If you don’t want government health care then you opt out and you can’t get it. Then, when they lose their insurance they’ll have to beg to get the public option. I bet it would shut up a lot of people and take the wind out of the arguement.

  313. Dutch says:

    337 Work? You Socialist!

  314. #336, wait, didn’t the Socialist New Deal Dems beat the Nazis, while the Free Market Repubs tried to collaborate with them? I’m so confused.

  315. LeftCenter says:

#341 Only some of the Free Market Repubs. Like Prescott Bush.

  316. I have never had the trouble with the Post Office that I’ve had with FedEx or UPS.

  317. 343 — difference between USPS and FedEx and UPS is that the latter 2 are profitable.

  318. And the former is prohibited by law from being so.

  319. Wasn’t the Post Office privatized several years ago?

  320. And with that, chilluns, I have to leave you. I’ve got to work on this presentation about garageband. See yez when I do! :)

    Buh Bye, Bloggoes!

  321. LeftCenter says:

    #346 It’s a “government corporation.”

  322. k to the g says:

    339. They can turn in their medicare cards at the town hall meetings and somebody from health insurance industry could set up tables outside to sell them policies.

  323. My problem with the USPS are the idiots who design the stamp machines, including such things as requiring the use of the dollar coins (you know, the ones nearly similar in size to quarters)..

  324. Shane-O says:

#346 – not “privatized” — but it is a independent governmental corporation. Done in 1971 – Nixon.

  325. LeftCenter says:

#350 Our local post office has an machine that takes credit and debit cards.

  326. #350, I’ve never been confused between a quarter and dollar coin, so that complaint has always confused me. And the new stamp machines take credit/debit cards.

  327. LeftCenter says:

    #352 “an” machine? Man, I can’t type.

  328. The passion the health lobbyists are paying them to have?

  329. Habsberg says:

Alan Colmes is on WWRL but through FoxNewsRadio.

  330. trojanrabbit says:

    281

    Oh, Stephanie

  331. scooter says:

There was a newsphoto somewhere where a proud father had a sign including swastikas propped up in front of his kids’ stroller! What a country!

  332. Every attempt at a dollar coin has failed. I haven’t had the problem either, but I prefer to have paper in my billfold vs dollar coins in my pocket.

  333. trojanrabbit says:

    Yes, the Media BITES

  334. The same townhall disruptive idiots were in attendance at the teabag rallies. I see little hope for them, they are sheep and will be shorn and fornicated with all their lives. Killing them early and eating them is a service to them, a kindness, helping them out of their misery..

  335. k to the g says:

Hey can we talk about Minnie f**king Goofy again? How would that work?

  336. trojanrabbit says:

I was hoping to get a nice, scruffy 4-day beard growing, but I gots to go out after the show and get some cat food. Yes, my cats rule me. :(

    But they’re so sweet. :)

  337. MorningJoeVideo: Sen. McCaskill takes on town hall protesters: Aug. 12: Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., talks about her Tues.. Morning Joe

  338. You have to SHAVE to go buy cat food, TR?

    Pussy!

  339. Gregory Doty says:

These people demonstrating at the town halls across the country are an embarrassment to America. They are not trying to discuss or debate the issues and they could care less about health care for all Americans. A few of them were shipped in by the health care companies to stop any rational discussion, and then they antagonized the rest, which are a bunch of frustrated, ignorant, angry, hateful, “fools”. And once again, they have been lead astray by the Republican Party and their corporate sponsors. These “fools”, time and time again, have fought against their own best interests. Because they are so easily duped, they are the perfect fodder for all kinds of nonsense: unnecessary wars, more guns, more jobs overseas, more corporate ownership of our country, more pollution, etc. They are loud and boisterous but have never learned that just being the loudest in the room doesn’t make you any more right.

  340. Beverly says:

There has to be a way to get these town meetings under control. The senators look like wimps. Like parents not knowing what to do with their unruly two-year-olds.

  341. George, I usually tune from Morning Joke to Jerry Springer, since Joe Scarborough often acts the ass, and is incredibly rude and asanine toward all women on the show. It’s a good show when Joe is not there.

  342. trojanrabbit says:

    367
I gotta keep up SOME appearances.

Actually, when I had a mustache many years ago, my avatar cat kept trying to eat it.

  343. trojanrabbit says:

    369
They ARE wimps for the most part. Bought and sold wimps. Like Reid. That goes for reps like Pelosi as well.

  344. Skyhawk says:

    T. Boone Pickens is pushing natural gas because he owns most of the property where plants would have to be built.

  345. Dan The Man says:

    In the CONGA!!! LOL!!!

  346. Bill Clinton standing next to Dear Leader was symbolic. Clinton was about twice as tall, Kim looked like a little kid. Clinton could have driven Kim into the ground with one sharp blow on the top of his head..

  347. Habsberg says:

Hey Skyhawk, theres something up when T. Boone publicly pushes a business plan.

  348. Pickens sponsored the Swift Boat bullshit. He’s permanently on my list, I don’t believe much in his ideas about “energy independence”. I’m glad Al Franken confronted the bastard.

  349. Buh bye, Mookies!

    Don’t you change a thing.

    L.

  350. Skyhawk says:

377- Yep. Have a good day every one!

  351. Habsberg says:

Where is Dan White these days. Maybe working for the federal government.

  352. k to the g says:

lol Chris! heels hitting their butts!

  353. LeftCenter says:

And so ends once again the fastest three hours on radio. See you all tomorrow!

  354. k to the g says:

    Pickins – T. Boone or Slim? Hmmmmm…
    Happy hump day!

  355. Stan Hussein near Seattle says:

Commenting on the very first post today:
Mama doesn’t need her bangs all the time. When I saw Steph in Seattle last Saturday, she was smokin’ hot as usual. She was dressed very casually and had on a pair of really great looking boots. All the other speakers on the panel that night were fawning all over her, especially Mike Malloy!
