As for the doctors getting paid for every service they order, that’s another problem we have. We need to get rid of the fee for service system that we have for health care. Doctors have an incentive to prescribe more tests and treatments because they get paid for every one they do.

365…even if you accept the premise that emergency rooms are free health care for the uninsured, someone is paying for it.

And those people are the ones who have insurance. The hospitals pass on the costs to the people who do pay their bills. The insurance companies pass the costs of that on to the policy holders.

That means that even if you get health care paid for by your company, you’re paying for it. Every dollar they spend on health insurance is a dollar they can’t spend on wages.

There are even some community hospitals that contract their EM docs and reward them with bonuses for how much they bill out and get reimbursed. You can see how wrong that is too. It encourages docs to do more for people with insurance and less for those without who probably won’t pay their bills, regardless of what the patient actually needs.

All that crap about defensive medicine and worrying about getting sued is really overblown. It’s just what REpubliTARDS want.
