sandersSen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calls in at 6:30am Pacific to talk about green jobs and health care reform.

sestakRep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) calls in at 7:30am Pacific to talk about health care and his possible run for Senate.

fugelsang• Comedian John Fugelsang joins us in studio at 8:05am Pacific to talk about all things politics and pop culture.

• Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said yesterday that the chamber won’t vote on a health care reform bill until after the August recess. Reid said the leading Dems and GOPers of the Senate Finance Committee, who are negotiating a compromise plan, have asked for more time to complete their work.

President Obama took his health care offensive on the road to Cleveland, Ohio yesterday, accusing top Republicans of playing politics with his top domestic legislative priority. He also said, “We have never been closer to achieving quality, affordable health care for all Americans.”

• The commissioner of the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police department said yesterday he “deeply regrets” the arrest of prominent black Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., but stands by the procedures followed by his department.

• President Obama is leaning hard on the nation’s schools, using the promise of more than $4 billion in federal aid – and the threat of withholding it – to strong-arm the education establishment to accept more charter schools and performance pay for teachers.

    Gooood morning all!

Today’s one of those days where the commute would be easier if I had a boat.

Somebody needs to update the ads here. Father’s Day??!? Or is this like the “biological experiments” we carry out in the refrigerator seeing how moldy the cheese can get. Are they just waiting for someone to notice?

    Only 299 to go…..

  2. trojanrabbit says:

    2X2L calling CQ LiveBlog

Isn’t there anyone on the air?

    Isn’t there anyone????

    2X2L calling CQ

  3. shāf says:

#1 On top of that, there are two ads for stamps.com and no tile ad for ABT (Jim, are you being dissed?)

  4. shāf says:

#3 Okay, now it just showed up (Apocryphal But True). TR, are you expecting Martian invaders?

  5. trojanrabbit says:

    4
    Good morning shaf.

I wish SOMEONE would invade over here. I’m the only tech in today and the place is dead.

    Glad you got the reference.

  6. shāf says:

#5 I’m a big fan of the The Mercury Theatre on the Air radio production.

Can’t stay around, though. One last day of Process Design. Have a great day (and weekend), everyone!

  7. trojanrabbit says:

See ya shaf, thanks for stopping by.

  8. Mornin’ TR- Anyone else want to have Harry Reid brought to task for being a closeted blue-dog tool!!!!

  9. Alex says:

    A few facts for Jim:

Barry Goldwater was born in 1909, in the Arizona Territories. Arizona and New Mexico became 47th and 48th states in 1912.

  10. 9…. so apparently the righties are the ones who like to nominate candidates that aren’t eligible for the presidency based on the birth certificate issue… :)

  11. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

    Hi Paul.
    bye shaf.

  12. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

and good morning Danielle and Alex.
#8, oh, Danielle, I acted in anger yesterday. When the story came out about blue dog harry, I called his office and left a voice mail. I told him (thanks to Mama for the line) that this will be his Katrina and the other blue dogs. Folks are gonna die cuz of the delay.

  13. trojanrabbit says:

Good morning lovely ladies and Alex!

8 – I’ve never cared for Reid (or Pelosi for that matter). Way too toolie.

  14. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

I missed Steph on Ed last night. :-(

  15. trojanrabbit says:

    14
I’m sure it will be up on the site quickly, it was already up on Facebook last night thanks to DJ the Cockroach.

  16. Dan The Man says:

    Good Morning Board! Happy Friday!

Happy 40th to Hennifer Lopez (loved the South Park pardoy even if it pissed her off) and Seinfeld’s Michael Richards is 60.

Loved Randi’s comeback to a freeper caller yesterday. “If you’re calling to insult me, you’re done,” and hung up on the ***hole. Mike Malloy had some “you’ve never served in the military” freeper on hold, and the coward got scared and hung up before he could get to air. Mike spoke about him and made him look like an idiot anyway. It’s time for the liberal talkers to start doing an “O’Liely” and see if these idiots like a taste of their own medicine before they go off crying to Rush and Beck.

  17. 12… If you’re not pissed off, you’re not paying attention. I am going to be placing several calls and sending several emails today for the same reason. I’m sick and tired of him shooting our party in the foot. He needs to either find his nads or give the job to someone who actually has a pair! (literally or figuratively…either one is fine by me)

  18. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

Thanks, guys, for showing up early. Enjoy the show.
I’ll be reading and listening later, loving every bite.
    Y’all are clever, wonderful people.

  19. Good Morning All !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should be able to hang for the duration today (unless something unforeseen crops up).

  20. Skyhawk says:

    Morning Mooks and Mookettes.

  21. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

good take on the Gates/Crowley thing in the Boston Globe:

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/07/24/hey_lets_talk/

  22. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

one last post! one of my old boy friends (in my own mind)is going into the Hall of Fame. oh, and ladies, he looks even better now. Jim Rice!
    http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/07/24/rice_powered_way_into_exclusive_club/

  23. Dan The Man says:

    Swirly music!

  24. Skyhawk says:

Of course Harry Reid will buy the rethugs time to air their smear campaigns against reforms.

  25. I’d still like to know what dirty secret the rethugs have on half of these politicians. I just sware they must have pictures of them sleeping with donkeys or something!

  26. flombaye says:

if not now, when. if not this, what, hakuna masada.

  27. I really try NOT to think too much about this whole Health Care fiasco because it pisses me off so VERY VERY much.

  28. 27.. I know! But the Harry Reid thing has me so pissed I want to scream!

  29. So doesn’t Bernie Sanders do Thom Hartman’s show on Fridays? He always used to. Or is he double dipping today?

  30. 29… Brunch with Bernie is a usual Hartmann feature… but Thom will share his Bernie toy with Steph!

  31. #28 I know…. it’s SOOOOOOO unbelievably frustrating. So how DO we get rid of Harry Reid? I’m sure there’s a smart person on the Live Blog who can fill us in.

  32. flombaye says:

24: at least they’ve graduated to recycling. anybody except charlston heston can get behind that. about a week ago, rush limbaugh went to the finely crafted scholarly approach of playing all obama soundbites at chipmunk speed. (an intellectual achievement of mendeleevian proportions, you must admit), and yesterday, rush was em-FAT-ic about saying that obama was just jealous. – this is a recycled talking point from sept./oct. – - – purely by coincidence, mark levin was on the very same talking point. – and they’re both assigned to this one too: “everything obama EVER says is a lie”.

  33. MidwestRuth says:

and then tax those drugs… then VOILA Healthcare is paid for!

  34. Hola Amigas y Amigos! Que Tal? Happy Friday. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

I saw Sweet Mama on the Ed Show yesterday and with her greenish blue dress, her blue eyes looked greenish blue. I’m in love all over again!

If they allowed her more than a sentence (sometimes interrupted) at a time.

And BTW, Michael Medved looks like he may have died and not noticed. Poor guy, his health cannot be good. (Of course, he’s always been pretty much another Right Wing Stooge.)

  35. Do I smell a Steph show on MSNBC?????

  36. flombaye says:

34: what ever happened to his I.Q. of 65 ?

  37. hhhhhmmmmm…. quick Sparta Math check… 35 Posts every 30 minutes = 210….. not good.

    PICK UP THE PACE!!!!!

  38. flombaye says:

40: there’s no UV in the polynoidal cystine cloister where rush goes to “think”.

  39. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

    Good morning bloggos and bloggettes!

Bernie’s usually on the Friday Thom show right after Mama signs off. But I find it weird that they don’t mention Frangela any more … ever.

  40. MidwestRuth says:

it would be fabulous – Steph takes the 11PM Central time slot…that’s only 9P Pacific if you’re LIVE…no more insane-o’clock bedtimes

  41. MidwestRuth says:

Bernie Sanders is my idol. This guy is perfect on every issue IMHO.

  42. 42… I think there must have been a falling out…

  43. flombaye says:

you never hear that a pole came out of bill oreilly – coincidence ?

  44. MidwestRuth says:

Can’t they bring single payer up for a vote…even if it does fail…just to get people on record.

  45. flombaye says:

45: like what uncle ray does to the guy in “excess baggage” ?

  46. Rocky Mountain High, Colorado says:

    Morning.

  47. flombaye says:

glenn beck has a thoroe and detailed rebuttal against any and all building of green jobs: saying it’s crazy, saying it wont work, and giggling and chuckling. – perhaps dennis miller can be set up as an auditor of green jobs proposals.

  48. #45 Maybe Frangela is doing another goofball reality show or crappy date movie. I’m sure they will be back.

  49. flombaye says:

glenn beck and mark levin have also pointed out that solar is too expensive.

  50. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

#45: You don’t fall out with the Frangela … that’s like not talking to your own mother!

  51. 51… But then why would there be such an effort to NEVER mention them…

  52. flombaye says:

53: the problem usually starts when mother is loudly singing “if you didnt come to party, then you should go home !”

  53. Bernie ROCKS!!!!! Almost as much as that “Cleveland” place.

  54. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

#50: in a padded cell, no-one can hear you giggling and chuckling …

  55. #54 You got me there. As long as Hal Sparks becomes their permanent replacement for Fridays I’ll be happy.

  56. flombaye says:

54: good point . – there was a weird mouse/human hybrid girl in an anthro class in college, who would ignore me completely, never deviating from doing so from just a couple of seats away when there were plenty of extra places.

  57. Skyhawk says:

Any new venture will cost money in the short run. It’s the long term goal we’re after. Those costs will come down and eventually be profitable.

  58. uh oh…. something just threw the numbers off. HATE when that happens.

  59. Dan The Man says:

Medved’s problem is that there is an elderly woman inside him trying to get out.

  60. I wish MSNBC would move Rachel to Tweety’s slot just before Keith, put Ed in Rachel’s slot. And fire Joe Scarborough from Morning Joe..

  61. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

#55: My mother, drunk or sober.

  62. 55… or over do the “black attitude”… I’m not black, so perhaps I misinterpret this, but I often think the presentation of all black people as “ghetto” in many black comedies would be offensive to many black people. I think we need more intelligent black comedy…which Frangela provided often, but then they’d slip into the “ghetto” talk.

    thoughts?

  63. Dan The Man says:

Glad for Fugelsang and Carlos. Hal Sparks gives me a headache in my eye. Sorry.

  64. flombaye says:

61: do you suppose the cats inside medved have set up a hostage situation ?

  65. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

Arthur just rolled over in bed and crushed his phone.

  66. WANTED: – Mika Brszeszinski on the charge of commenting on racially biased arrest while being Nordic blue-eyed blonde white woman who has a chip on her shoulder concerning cops in trouble.

Ask your Daddy about these things, Mika!

From ’39 to ’45 he was forced to live under a system where the SS and the Gestapo treated Poles as second class citizens purely because of race.

Not to mention that under the Polish Republic before the war, Ukrainians had a hard time with Polish police, who treated them as second class citizens!

Know whereof you speak Mika! And – if you are in a hole, stop digging!

  67. flombaye says:

64: if only there were some gates that would open up and show that they can be extremely civilized cambridge professors.

  68. Oh, so we’re not talking about the Jesus?

    /8 year olds, Dude.

  69. flombaye says:

68: well done, and it reminds me of the shalikashvili rant on john mccain.

  70. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

Larry King DID invent twittering … back in the telegraph era.

  71. Dan The Man says:

Sad about Rourke. Remember how cute he was in 9-1/2 weeks?

I know the movie’s garbage, but it’s a guilty pleasure.

  72. flombaye says:

70: we still want the money, robowski.

  73. So Carol Channing got famous HOW????

  74. Please help us sign this Fire Dog Lake petition to keep congress in session to finish a health care bill. Find it by googling fire dog lake petition

    http://action.firedoglake.com/page/s/dontdelay?source=fdlemail&subsource=ns

  75. Oh, did Steph just slip up as to which boy band she lives next to?????

  76. flombaye says:

john lennon was taller than the jesus…. wait, you better let me have another look. the backstreet boys’ chances are in there somewhere.

  77. CAT FIGHT!!!!!!!!

  78. Dan The Man says:

OMG – Momma lives next to one of the Backstreet Boys!

  79. Aja says:

…I think Twitter is also made for Andy Rooney as well…

  80. flombaye says:

75: eerily accurate prediction of rich little

  81. Mickey Rourke has
“His own – personal – Jesus!
    Someone to hear his prayers
    Someone who cares

  82. Anyone got that Emoticon Primer thingy handy?? Cindy used to post it every now and then.

  83. Gross Republican racism pictified:

    http://images2.dailykos.com/images/user/30549/obama_witchdoctor_muck.jpg

I’d like to know why a KOS blogger can thoroughly debunk Liddy’s lies about a “deposition” from Obama’s grandmother stating he was born in Kenya, yet the “news networks” cannot. It took a whole hour to do that.

BTW, the grandmother was “speaking” through an interpreter speaking in Swahili; the grandmother didn’t speak Swahili, and the full “text” of the phone conversation reveals the woman repeatedly saying that Obama was born in Hawaii. Also, adding to the confusion, Barak Obama is the name of our President’s father, who was of course born in Kenya to the President’s grandmother.

Liddy has been a massive liar for most of his life, from prior to the Watergate days. The bastard is a felon.

  84. 80… (Drama Sting; Scream) The WHORE!! Ooops… I meant THE HORROR!!!

  85. Mickey Rourke has:

“His own – personal – Jesus!
    Someone to hear his prayers
    Someone who cares.”

  86. flombaye says:

83: worked fine for bruce willis in that ghetto scene…. AND it brott us the miracle of samuel l jackson hollering “he didnt say jesus, do i look puerto rican ? he said HEY ZEUS, like mount olympus, stick a lightning boly up yo ass if you dont get these snakes off this plane, ZEUS !!!”

  87. 88…seriously…is that the website? Rather offensive, ey?

  88. Dan The Man says:

#45 – reminds of that scene in Madonna’s “Truth or Dare” where she tells an insecure male dancer in her troupe to “take a poll (laughs) . . . and then ram it up your ***”. Of course saying that makes the dancer even more offended.

  89. flombaye says:

44/ 47(erroneously referent to 45, but really referent to 44):
perhaps this is the sort of falling out that transpired.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNes5XaUiEs&feature=PlayList&p=E13334AF45AFD81F&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=22

  90. flombaye says:

91: how do you get more offended than being relegated to slumming with madonna?

  91. flombaye says:

hannity: “obama put special emphasis on the signing. – will these signs be co-ordinated with the ‘i think bin laden rocks fist pump’? – are we seeing these same signs in prisons?”

  92. flombaye says:

“he’s a whiner. we treated him like a King”

  93. flombaye says:

some of my best friends are jive honky mooks, jim

  94. To any of my Bloggin’ Brothas and Sistahs who might be in the Fells Point area of Baltimore this Sunday, my lil’ old band (Memphis 59) will be rocking the Waterfront Hotel:

    http://www.waterfronthotel.us/

We’ll be hitting the stage early (6pm). So end your weekend with a few drinks, a couple of crab cakes and a whole mess of ROCK!!!

Check out a tune or two here:

    http://www.myspace.com/memphis59band1

  95. flombaye says:

do larry king and lavort share racist tweeterhosen ?

  96. I think she was calling them racists, but if she listened to the show for 5 minutes she would see how ridiculous that is… hey letter writer… spend your energy on someone who is actually a racist…

  97. Crowley wasn’t being a racist. He just didn’t like someone questioning his authori-tay, and acted like a thug.

Watched a white cop threaten to leave a white woman lying in a pool of her own blood because she tried to negotiate him about double-parking when packing up from a market (a customary practice) – while she was closing her vehicle’s hatch so she could comply with his order.

Cops often like to think they are the law, and are thugs because of it. Not every act of police thuggery is rooted in race.

  98. Aja says:

Chris, Jim, I think you guys are being a little defensive. I don’t think anyone really thinks you guys are racists. = )

  99. flombaye says:

102: makes me wonder how aleister crowley ever found the time for all that masterpiece theatre.

  100. Aja says:

I agree with you PeterW. I also don’t think this issue is a racially charged one. I think it was the officer being a jerk.

  101. flombaye says:

hillary does an awesome imitation of paris hilton.

  102. Hey Jim, you be bigoted without being racist!

The cop acted in an ignorant bigoted manner!

Gates, who committed no crime acted out of indignance – in his own home!

  103. Peter… I’ve seen so many equally maddening events.. no joke, in the bad area I grew up (where there were a lot of drug sales going on) I litterally watched (more than once) cops randomly grab someone off the street, pull them into an unmarked van with no windows, beat the crap out of them for information, and then throw them back on the street bleeding. And they didn’t even just do it to black people. My own brother (who did not sell drugs or have any information on who did) got pulled in because he was dressed in “ghetto” clothes, and littlerally had a black eye, busted lips, and cracked ribs…

  104. flombaye says:

sounds like the burglar has a legit copyright suit against gates

  105. Chris… last time I checked we have freedom of speech and expressing it, even to a cop, is still not illegal!

  106. A cop without a warrant has no power to order you out of your house without a warrant.

Yeah, ProducerChris! You shouldn’t question authority in America!

  107. flombaye says:

“you dont talk back to a cop” ? – when do you NOT talk back to a cop ? – is chris trying to say that cops serve no useful purose whatsoever?

  108. Chris, just as she can’t say it was definately racist, none of us can say that it wasn’t either…

  109. Hey Jim, you can be bigoted without being racist!

The cop acted in an ignorant bigoted manner!

Gates, who committed no crime acted out of indignance – in his own home!

if his house was already broken into, the cop should have already known who’s house it was!

  110. If we are going to stop questioning authority, what they hell did anyone bother to vote for? Why are we listening to left-wing radio? Or blogging about issues we think need to change? I don’t know about anyone else… but I sure as hell am not going to stop questioning anything!?!?!?!?

  111. flombaye says:

all speculation of racsim aside. – if the cop had just called it what it was, a fashion felony, there never would have been a problem.

  112. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    Producer Chris:

This SAME THING happened to a guy in my neighborhood: stumbled home drunk and was locked out. Neighbor called the police.

    Police entered his home.

He was passed out on his bed and heard people in his room so he grabbed his knife.

The cops SHOT AND KILLED THE MAN IN HIS OWN BED.

    he was white.

  113. my pooer's dad says:

Who ever said you can’t talk back to the police?
I know of no laws that state a police officer can arrest
a person for talking back to them. A person is obligated to
obey “lawful” orders of a police officer, and a person can’t
lie to the police. However, A person (any person) should
be secure in their own residence without fear of arrest when a
crime hasn’t been comitted. And this is where the police acted
    stupidly.

  114. He DID NOT BREAK INTO HIS OWN HOUSE, Jim, Chris. His lock jammed on the front door, he walked around and UNLOCKED the back door

Stop sticking up for thuggish police. Yelling at a cop, being rude to a cop is not a crime. Especially on your own stoop.

  115. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Gates was lucky to only be arrested………..

  116. Deb says:

Morning all…tuned in just in time to hear Steph and Chris having a bit of a tiff. Good thing it’s Friday!

Just for the record, I think the police were wrong as well.

  117. flombaye says:

personally, i’m more inclined to drop-kick somebody wearing that shade of pink.

  118. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

and yeah, Peter, yelling at a cop is NOT reason to arrest him

  119. Dar313 says:

Chris is such a tool. What the Hell? You don’t talk back to a cop? Who are they Gods or something? The cop should have gotten the Hell out of the man’s house. He didn’t like being talked to like that by a Black man, that’s all there is to it.

  120. Aja says:

    110. I totally agree. The police aren’t above the law. The are PUBLIC SERVANTS.

  121. flombaye says:

    117: white…with a splash of red.

  122. Police are NOT the law. They are people. People who are only doing a job. They are prone to mistakes, bad judgement, and negative opinions just like anyone else.

  123. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    lol 106, flombaye!!!

  124. #127, and when a policeman breaks the law, he ceases to be a policeman – he is at that moment an armed assailant.

  125. carein2205 says:

Cops are abusive of their powers. I am an African-American woman who is partially disabled with a special needs child. I live in a predominately white upscale area in Northville, Michigan but I drive an older car. I have been targeted and pulled over for no reason-no ticket issued just to ask is this was my car, where I was going and do I live in the sub. I am not a thuggish looking woman, just black. Has this happened to you? I had to go to the police station to ask them to stop unless there was an issue.

  126. Dar313 says:

In Chris the tool’s world, every cop is above suspicion and in our “police state” everything they do is ok.

  127. Deb says:

I’ve heard that he showed proof and they still arrested him. It looks like the white police officer has some issues.

  128. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

and excuse me, but that a LT CN is telling the world that the Taliban should kill the POW is a little more friggin newsworthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  129. Aja says:

    131. Very good point!

  130. flombaye says:

119: chris is indeed, a but too much like the transparent sycophants who vote for palin, believing that it means that they personally, will get a roll in the hay. – the cops who are willing to exercise their civic duties will still do that. the ones who got in because they like the extra layer of personal security will still do that. – as isaac asimov said, “violence is the last resort of a failure”. – there’e no need for lavort to compound the problem by making it the first resort also.

  131. Look, if the guy showed ID, there shouldn’t have been an issue. the police should have left. Now if he refused to show ID, then hey, that’s one thing.

And if the only reason they arrested him was for following them to the porch, well then I’m confused at how acting rudely in your own house is a crime? I’m a freakin’ bitch all the time, and I’ve yet to be imprisoned for it!

  132. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

I MEAN, we know cops are racist pigs!

  133. And if a cop won’t give his name and badge number, assume he’s an imposter. An armed imposter.

  134. Will Hunting says:

Dar313 is right on. Chris is a tool and spineless. If he wants to never “talk back to a cop” he can live without a spine as he chooses. I choose to have a spine and exercise my right to freedom of speech and right to my own home (search and seizure). I recognize it’s more difficult for a black man to have a spine in America than it is for me and other non-black men!!

  135. Dar313 says:

    carein2205:
I lived in Northville too and was pulled over supposedly for speeding. Is this your car? Are you going to work? Do you live here? It’s just an example of intimidation by cops who think they are above the law.

  136. #113 A cop trained in sensitivity can’t tell when someone is being indignant?

  137. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

132, carein, white people have no idea about this kind of stuff :( that is, they ignore it. it’s called privilege :(

  138. flombaye says:

120: yeah, again, that shirt calls for some serious jumper cable action.

  139. fester says:

so then, basicly, its racist to arrest a black man

  140. Skyhawk says:

First DWB, now IMHWB (In my house while black)?

  141. In control, caller? Last I checked, without a warrant, the person in control in my home is ME.

  142. dkl says:

Gates provided his Harvard ID which DOES NOT have an address on it.

Cop asked for his Drivers ID which would have an address.

Gates got indignant with the cop.

Cop warned him he was getting disorderly. It escalated from there.

  143. Deb says:

Speaking of tiffs, has anyone found out why there are no more “friday’s with frangela”?

  144. flombaye says:

131: the irony is, an assailant runs the risk of becoming disarmed.

  145. Skyhawk says:

149 – Does the ID have a photo on it?

  146. 132… I believe you… and the sad part is these days the same profiling occurs with white kids dressed in old clothes driving an old car through expensive areas here… happened to me and my brother thanksgiving day several years ago.. pulled over in “Golden Beach, FL” for “speeding and cutting off a lexus”… funny part was we had been driving only in the right lane, below the speed limit, because we were pointing at the mansions and joking about which one we were going to have someday… but I guess two punk kids driving an old car that’s registered in the “hood” were looked at as not belonging in the well-to-do area… and I look as white as they come (even if I am part Cuban)

  147. #149 Gates’s Harvard ID should at the least prove that he was no perp!

  148. Dar313 says:

Some people jump to right-wing fallacy questions like, “so so then, basicly, its racist to arrest a black man”. What? Stick to the issue here. The issue is the assumption that a black man is assumed a criminal and must prove otherwise.

  149. carein2205 says:

Of course it is not racist to arrest anyone who is suspected of being guilty of a crime 146. The point here is that people need to understand that some of us are more subject to the assumption of guilt BEFORE a crime is committed….

  150. Here’s the thing about being a professional dealing with the public: sometimes people are upset, indignant. Sometimes something else has already soured their mood.

A PROFESSIONAL police officer bears this in mind, and once it’s established that the report of a burglary was false, that the suspect is the owner, you suck up and accept that person’s indignation, apologize for the intrusion, give him your name and badge number, and depart.

The only reason to do otherwise is because you think your perceived social dominance status has been challenged, and defending it is more important than doing your JOB.

  151. 144. that comment is truely offensive. Not all white people are privledged… some of us actually have experienced discrimination ya’ know…

  152. Dar313 says:

My son in a Black man and went to college in Michigan. I was more scared of the cops than anything he could get into at school.

  153. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    158, perfect, Peter

  154. Deb says:

#132 – no, that has never happened to me and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be.

  155. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Drunk Danielle, fine, “some white people.” sheesh.

  156. #153, and gave the officer enough info to, oh, say, call in for someone to check records.

  157. Skyhawk says:

145 – When you have NY cops shooting unarmed black men not resisting arrest, and the Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer who shoots an unarmed black kid who was face down not resisting. Yes it’s racist.

  158. spiffyhussein says:

#17—Hi Danielle, I plan to send several faxes today. Was planning to do it last night but ran out of time and got too discouraged by other stuff.

  159. scooter says:

What surprises me most about the Gates arrest is that the cop didn’t recognize him. I mean, what are Cambridge officers doing all day that prevents them from knowing who’s who in their fair city? Hell, I’m a cowboy from KS but I’ve seen Gates on TV a bunch of times.

  160. flombaye says:

155: i think that was not harvard but cambridge – not trying to be a pedantry cop on GP. – it’s just that harvard is getting an even more egregious reputation as one extraneous diploma mill. – they already “graduated” antonin scalia, who is quite possibly the global village idiot, and they hosted kaczynski, who, let’s face it, fancied himself some kind of serial killer, but with so much time and energy invested could have done so much more, and clearly just wanted to get cott and get mega fifteen minutes of fame….. and now harvard is saddled with association with bill oreilly who admitted to trading 30 thousand dollars for a masters degree, but in the same statement, and indeed, on a chronic basis, has admitted to not understanding a lot of incredibly simple concepts.

  161. flombaye says:

157: right on danielle. – some of my best friends are crappy dancers.

  162. spiffyhussein says:

#147–I know white privaledge is a reality, but it sounds like the professor was trying to pull rank on the cop a little bit with his Harvard ID and by refusing to get his DL.

But the cop should have just taken his university ID. They were both wrong.

  163. my pooer's dad says:

All cops are not racists. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot!

  164. Laura says:

Racial profiling exists. Locally a young African American made the mistake of jogging in his OWN neighborhood without an ID … he is an honors student of affluent parents and living in a very affluent neighborhood … He was stopped by a cop who said “You couldn’t possibly live here.”

  165. #167, only because they’re not drunk and Irish.

/or Cape Bretoners. Those whities can dance.

  166. 161.. thanks! Much appreciated.. I just get frustrated with those comments because of growing up in such a bad neighborhood… I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten trearted as if I’m somehow not human because I lived in the ghetto…

  167. Dar313 says:

Enough of them are racist and if you are a person of color, one is too many!

  168. dkl says:

@153 @162 I don’t think the issue is the ID. It was just the catalyst for the Disorderly Conduct charge. I don’t care who you are (or think you are) you respect the authority of law enforcement officers. And follow orders.

  169. spiffyhussein says:

#148—-Here, email them and ask them: http://www.frangela.com/contact-us/

  170. #168, I’d say “in my own home, cop has no warrant” IS rank.

  171. flombaye says:

169: but everybody knows that all racists like donuts, and cops like donuts. therefore, the cop was made of wood, and and therefore, a racist. the logic is so simple. DUH.

  172. 167… LOL… I think you said that just to get me to reference my Cuban side… Hey, you can’t tell by lookin’ at me, but you know I’m cuban when I’m dancin’…

  173. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Danielle, yes i think class supercedes race in a lot of way. Racism is a trendier topic than classism. No one cares about being classist or calling someone out on classist behavior and language.

  174. flombaye says:

171: lest you presume to preach and teach about whities, know that i have studied them in their own habitat, AND i’ve seen the STARSKY AND HUTCH movie.

  175. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Frangela said they are “moving on.” which might mean they know Hal Sparks was a better fill-in. but i do miss Fridays wtih Frangelas. maybe they didn’t like getting up so early!

  176. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

Who came up with the Single Payer Theory?

  177. 179.. because the damn rich folks have wanted to pretend like they don’t look at us as their subjects

  178. spiffyhussein says:

172—-I have been treated badly in this town because
    A. I’m overweight (L.A. loves fitness. I wish I loved exercise but I don’t. The years have made this show on me. Plus I’ve had low thyroid for 2 years and Kaiser didn’t bother to tell me.)

    B. I’m not rich and have at times, been downright poor.

    C. If your skin is the wrong shades in certain neighborhoods in L.A. you will get treated badly. It’s the reverse of White priviledge in certain parts of this town. I think some people of color figure it’s there right to deliver payback on many White people for the history of this country.

  179. flombaye says:

179: could you imagine what an officer hannity would have done to a cop in an adjacent patrol car who had no mayo, but lots of grey poupon ?

  180. Dar313 says:

“Respect the authority of law enforcement officers?” Are you kidding? When one of these officers come to your home, insinuate you are a criminal and then arrest you because, oh I don’t know, you had the nerve to get mad, then I like to see your respect for their authority.

  181. spiffyhussein says:

#183—OMG, I have worked for Republicans who generally always treated employees like their subjects.

  182. my pooer's dad says:

177: And they turned him into a newt.

  183. 171… Alas, you came to my rescue and I didn’t even see it… what a noble gentleman you can be… **bats eyelashes wildly**

  184. Aja says:

I’m glad the caller called back.

  185. “Public – option!” What part of that phrase don’t the PHDs of the Lewin Group understand?

  186. Aja says:

    …or balckberry-ed back

  187. NathnlEE says:

I think it’s ironic that the Gates issue is taking place in Cambridge/Boston, where — before the U.S. Constitution was written, before the U.S. existed — forced quatering of representatives of the crown (troops & officers) was a contributing factor to the 4th amendment. I suspect this is what got Gates’ “Irish” up. I’m less sure that this was a racist confrontation as much as a 4th amendment vrs racism issue.

  188. flombaye says:

189: excellent blinking action, but bob dole auditions are next door.

  189. Dar313 says:

    What is the point, Jim???

  190. Dar313 says:

Some white people just don’t get it! Jim, Chris

  191. spiffyhussein says:

Jim is correct on a technical level. A cop going by the book would arrest someone who refused to produce ID and follow orders.

However, a cop using some knowledge of history and human nature might recognize that the guy was just angry over stereotypes and to follow his training to the letter in this situation might not be the best course.

Plus, if he knew his was a professor, let’s face it, some professors think they are gods.

  192. fester says:

yeah, the police are all scumbags…until youre in trouble and need their help

  193. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    America is over-policed.

  194. flombaye says:

“my name is rodney, and i am a pinata”
    “hi, rodney”
“my name is producerchris and i am a pinata in training”
    “hi producerchris”

  195. Deb says:

Prof Gates was jetlagged too – he had just come in from a trip to China, just wanted to be home, be in his own bed and get some sleep! No wonder he was a little cranky – being arrested in his own home aside! :-)

  196. dkl says:

@186 yup. you can get mad all you want but stay respectful and sort it out. Don’t have a chip on your shoulder. I would bet Gates pulled the “don’t you know who I am” card….

  197. 198.. that is usually the worst, ’cause where I live that’s usually when they don’t show up!

  198. dkl says:

Chris just made the point. Deal with the situation and follow up with a complaint to the Office of Police Accountability.

  199. I don’t know, Steph…. from what I’ve seen of this cop he does sort of seems like a jerk to me. Just sayin’

  200. Cosby’s statement made no sense.

  201. spiffyhussein says:

If a cop asked me to walk outside I would do it, stupid or not. That guy has a gun and laws or no laws, he could shoot me because he has a gun.

  202. Deb says:

You would think though that the Cambridge police would know who their prominent citizens are….

  203. flombaye says:

197: actually, training to the letter would have worked well. the book on civic engagement is really very well evolved. the book (the canon of civic engagement) did not fail; the cop failed to perform according to assignment. – the book provides great resource and latitude for de-escalation.

  204. Aja says:

    199. I agree.

  205. Skyhawk says:

198 – Policemen are valuable, not untouchable. Which is why they have Internal Affairs. The bad cops endanger the good cops, and we want them weeded out. The only draw back is if they get fired, they can easily find the same job in another state and the problems repeats. Some do not need to wear the badge.

  206. flombaye says:

the caller just confirmed 209 perfectly. – surprised, confused ? – so what.

  207. fester says:

anyone can pose a threat. if he can use a cane, he can use a knife or a gun.

  208. Old guy with cane vs. young guy with GUN??? The FORMER is the one who is a threat?? That math don’t add up.

  209. spiffyhussein says:

#165—I didn’t recognize him and I watch CNN frequently. That’s probably another part of it. Maybe the professor thought, “I’m a celebrity—get me outta here!”

  210. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

she’s right: never go outside when a cop asks you like that… uh uh. you don’t have to open the door to a damn cop!

  211. Amy outside of DC says:

Henry Gates, Jr. did a few specials for PBS. He took famous people, like Oprah, Chris Rock, and the first black woman in space (forget her name) and using DNA, figured out where in Africa they came from. Plus he did research on their family. Chris Rock cried when he found out he had an ancestor that fought for the Union in the Civil War… he had no idea. Tom Joyner learned that his family once owned a lot of land in Georgia, then 2 great uncles were accused of a crime. The family sold everything they had to get lawyers, the men were executed and the family relocated to Florida. Fascinating stuff.

  212. 211.. sadder yer is that if they don’t get hired by another police station, they’re likely to go to private security companies like blackwater (or whatever the hell they are calling themselves these days)

  213. fester says:

wasnt that nazi guy that shot the black security guard in dc about the same age as gates?

  214. flombaye says:

213: so why do i even bother to be reno’s biggest gun nut ? – oh, that’s right… jack in the box cheeseburgers !

  215. dkl says:

maybe his cane was a special Maxwell Smart issued cane. You know, the one that doubles as a blow dart gun!

  216. spiffyhussein says:

#199—not L.A.! Now when I drive around the Valley I see more police cars and I have to tell you from living here 40+ years, I’ve never seen that many police in the SF Valley in my life before. It is a good change.

  217. Rachel says:

Wow… Steph and the mooks are at eachother’s throats. I need some fun-stack and a bottle of whiskey!!

  218. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Amy, too bad this stuff isn’t passed down orally from generations…

  219. My! Aren’t we being calm and rational Chris!

Some cop steps onto your property, implies that you may be committing a crime where you know that no crime was committed, and you think you’ll calm down just because the intuding cop asks you to?

By the way cops do have radios Chris! Couldn’t the cop check with the Harvard cops to verify Gates’s place of residence?

  220. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

yah Rachel, my headache is starting early today. i think it’s cause of them.

  221. Amy outside of DC says:

yesterday, someone pointed out that Sarah Palin will need a new twitter name (right now she’s AKGovSarahPalin).
CaribouBarbie and dumberthandirt are both taken. Any suggestions? We’ll get to Sparta sooner…

  222. flombaye says:

219: that was horrible. shooting a man who wasnt wearing a feloniously ugly pink shirt.

  223. #219 Older, I believe. But he SHOT him with a gun, not tap him to death arthritically with a cane.

  224. Amy outside of DC says:

#219 The DC Holocaust Museum shooter was in his 80s. According to Wikipedia, Gates is 58.

  225. Dar313 says:

Chris, deal with the situation and follow up later with policy authorities?? The cop wouldn’t even provide his badge number and name. How was he supposed to follow up? Isn’t providing your badge number a part of the rules/regulations for police conduct?

  226. spiffyhussein says:

#224—-Families generally don’t like to pass down the sad stories. Only the proud, happy stories. Some families vary from that perspective.

  227. Deb says:

#223 – Yeah, hope they move on to other subject matter in the next hour. It’s good though that they aren’t all in lock-step and can think independently of each other. Oh yeah, that’s called being a progressive! :-)

  228. spiffyhussein says:

    227—Bailin’ Palin.

  229. fester says:

225- so then, all a cop should do is ask a possible criminal if he is commiting a crime? and if the possible criminal says no, then the cop should just leave?

  230. Good subject change amy..

    What about ChattyMcMooseCrap?

  231. spiffyhussein says:

    Sarah4FoxNews

  232. mygodbeatsyourgod says:

Hey Jimbo and Chrissy: You guys are white fascists!

You two seem to forget there used to be a 1st and 4th Amendment. If you two bend over and take it every time a guy, with a little metal badge on his uniform, tells you to, go ahead, just leave the rest of us out of your scary little world.

Chrissy: Take it from the cop and file a complaint later??? Tell that to a rape victim, a mugging victim, a harassment victim!!!

  233. spiffyhussein says:

    Sarahwhichthatwashowever

  234. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Deb: t’s good though that they aren’t all in lock-step and can think independently of each other. Oh yeah, that’s called being a progressive!”

    IAWTC!!

  235. Amy outside of DC says:

#235 Gates should have shown proof that he lived there, and the cop would have left. I think they were both a little at fault, and neither of their egos would allow them to back down.

  236. fester says:

229- the point is that even at that age, almost anyone can be a threat

  237. spiffyhussein says:

    MinivanPalin

  240. my pooer's dad says:

    213: are you kidding?

    211: exactly!

  241. Dar313 says:

I heard the cop’s interview on the Bill Press show. He is unapologetic and said the President should not have insinuated himself in a “local” issue. If the mayor called Gates to apologize, then why is the cop giving interviews to the contrary. I thought cops work for the city, and therefore the mayor.

  242. spiffyhussein says:

244—but they often think they are!

  243. fester says:

241- i agree with that, neither side is blameless

  244. SarhGrindingTurkeysPalin

  245. #235, hey, ever hear of “presumption of innocence”? Ever hear of the requirement for a warrant?

In any event, if the cop had further suspicions, he could have called the ID info in. And he should have provided a name and badge number upon request.

  246. Skyhawk says:

So how much PAC money did Reid receive?

  247. spiffyhussein says:

OK, I must go take car to mechnic. Have a nice Friday everyone!

  248. Amy outside of DC says:

Believe it or not, “alsoto” is already taken.

    I really like #245 IkillwolvesfromtheskySarah.

  249. fester says:

244- thats in court. if it was innocent until proven guilty, no one would be arrested unless they were caugh in the act.

  250. spiffyhussein says:

    254—I can’t spell today.

  251. fester says:

244- thats in court. if it was innocent until proven guilty, no one would be arrested unless they were caught in the act.

  255. AlsoToWhichHoweverIllGetBackToYaPalin2012

  256. my pooer's dad says:

244: And the same should apply to the officer.

  257. #241, egos aside, conflict resolution is not Gates’ job – especially in his own home. It is, however, the cop’s job. The cop failed in his job.

  258. “MrsWordSalad” could be workable…

  259. Skyhawk says:

Let’s all hold hands and run for Sparta!

  260. Is “ImDumbAsAStump” taken?

  261. Amy outside of DC says:

Cops tend to expect the worst from us.

  264. Skyhawk says:

Steph’s other man is in the house. Will he be arrested?

  265. scooter says:

#217 Yes Gates did that wonderful series, and though I couldn’t necessarily enumerate all the shows I know he has also been a frequent guest on various talk shows and roundtables. I believe I’ve seen him on Charlie Rose, Bill Moyers, C-Span, etc. and during the election last year he was interviewed about issues surrounding Pres. Obama and race. He’s written lots of articles too, especially in the NYTimes. Yeah, I suppose people like Jim and the Lavort who only watch cartoons and reality shows may not have recognized Gates, I can honestly say that I would know him anywhere.

  266. Or “IF-in’HateTinaFaye” …she might actually like that one…

  267. #258, the cop didn’t arrest him for the crime on which he was originally suspected. The cop didn’t have a warrant for his arrest, or probable cause. The cop was therefore acting outside the law.

  268. Amy outside of DC says:

#268 no it’s not, DNIDanielle. Good suggestion.

  269. afreeland says:

    @ Amy I’m on it.

    SSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssssssparta!!!

Don’t make me say it again.

  298. I hear it was a Harriet – Wannabe who dropped the dime on Gates.

  299. #308, the great thing about owning a home is that you get to be an ass to uninvited visitors to it who are accusing you of a crime.

  300. What about “IthinkImQualifiedBecauseIwasABeautyQueenAlsoTherforeTo” ?

  301. Amy outside of DC says:

Damn, I was about to type about the mayor. They also handcuffed his elderly mother, too.
The UPS guys were shipping drugs to random addresses, then taking the packages before the homeowners got them. Alas, the cops got to the Mayor’s house before the delivery guy claimed his stash.

  302. Jeanie says:

Are we to believe that the policeman did NOT know Gates’ name? Wouldn’t the neighbor who gave the address also have given the name of the person who lived there? Even if they didn’t (and I bet they did), they could have (and should have) looked up who lived there. Otherwise, how could you possibly know if a person actually lived there? Even if he didn’t show his driver’s license, all he needed was to show something with his name on it. Boom. Done. The cop knew he lived there. There was no excuse. And it was stupid.

  303. Deb says:

Sorry Jim, the world is not dying from estrogen poisoning, but it is from testosterone….

Can you have back packs in the bark park?

  306. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

Peter, i can also refuse my landlord entrance

  307. NathnlEE says:

GEEEEE. I guess there must not be any family photos in the house. It must be all the african masks on the wall that raised the cops suspicions.

  308. Amy outside of DC says:

    #318 not in Sheboygan.

  309. I think this all speaks to community policing. If we had cops that worked a neighborhood beat, then they just might know a neighborhood and its residents.

  310. Clintster says:

    318, only in Bahston.

  311. PrivatizeCIAalready says:

    Sarah could try DefinitiveNewSpeakQuitter

  312. I think this Flugelhorn guy is prolly right. I’m sure the root cause was just stupid male egos clashing. Never ends well.

  313. Amy outside of DC says:

Turnip is already taken, but WannabeMaverick is available, Mrs. Palin.

  314. afreeland says:

How do you get an avatar pic?

  315. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    LMAO @ madduane & clintster!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  316. mygodbeatsyourgod says:

Why is this lame-*ss “comedian” keep re-enforcing the R/W talking point that what Obama said was wrong and may be his Howard Dean moment???

C’mon Progressives, don’t give the “Regressives” any validation!

  317. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

    afreeland, i went to gravatar.com

  318. Skyhawk says:

    329-Gravatar.com

  319. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

mygod, it’s not about Obama and what he said, but how R/W will spin it. He gave them full ammunition!

  320. Anyone else sick to death of this “Slim Seduction” ad? Seems like every few months some new Live Stream ad comes along that annoys the @#$% out of me. First Jen Chapin, then Evercleanse, now THIS one…

  321. #331, in three years, no one will remember what Obama said on this incident except right wing loons who weren’t going to vote for him anyway.

  322. Lisa wtf Simpson says:

mygod, you and i and progressives know what Obama was saying, but it’s just ammo for republicans to use against him “he hate cops!!” etc.

  323. Amy outside of DC says:

#335 I’m listening to KTLK and the same ad is playing. There’s no escaping the Slim Seduction…

  324. #335, damn straight. I want a pill that makes ME, a man, skinny and horny too!

  325. 331 — It’s true, though. I don’t care, because I agree the cops acted stupid. But the point being made is that there are lotsa jimokes in this fleabag country don’t much dig it when you give the bacon the bizness.

  326. dkl says:

@315 The cop did acknowledge that Gates was ‘likely’ the resident. He called the Harvard Police when Gates gave him his Harvard ID. Blah, blah, blah. It’s all in the police report, an interesting read. Why hasn’t anyone interviewed Lucia Whalen? She was the one that called in the report of 2 black men with backpacks breaking in….

  327. Skyhawk says:

335 – Be nice they pay for momma’s box wine.

  328. Dan The Man says:

“** – the plot is all too familiar”

  329. #339 Amen, Brotha!!!

  330. my pooer's dad says:

    Love to all;-)

  331. #341, haul her in for filing a false police report.

  332. Dar313 says:

Obama may have lost 500,000 votes to Republican, but how many did he pick up from people of color who have had this experience?

  333. Skyhawk says:

Kevin in D.C. should be chiming in soon.

  334. #342 Good point. Guess I’ll keep doin’ what I do and quickly switch over to some random iTunes song for a minute or two. (Currently listening to ‘Fiddlers Green’ by the Tragically Hip.)

  335. Dar313 says:

Who’s afraid of the big, bad Republicans?? Progressives, that’s who.

  336. scooter says:

MSNBC is reporting that Orrin Hatch, who has never voted against a Supreme Court nominee in his career, is voting against Sotomayer. Hatch supposedly walked out of a health care meeting the other day in a huff, now this. Must have lost his binky.

  337. Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but that stinking ad is on AGAIN!!!!! Twice in less than 10 minutes!! GAAAACK!!!

  338. 351 — any theories as to who was Orrin Hatch’s binky?

  339. catbird says:

Just too much made of this. We don’t know what really happened!!
And who is this guy “lame*ss comedian”. Sitting here in my tinfoil hat, is this the beginning to oust Jim?

  340. Dar313 says:

In Jim and Chris’ world, the police can tell you to dance a jig in traffic, and you should comply. What the F%$%?!!!

  341. Dan The Man says:

Hey, what just happened aka Rodney?

  342. #348 Ain’t heard much from ol’ Kevin lately. Must be on vacation or something. Then again, Randi Rhodes now lives in DC so maybe THAT explains it??

  343. Deb says:

#342 – or do what I do. Turn down the volume….

  344. dkl says:

the officer says he did provide it 2 times but Gates was yelling at him and not listening….

  345. Amy outside of DC says:

    #357

  346. mygodbeatsyourgod says:

Why is we accept the power of the police and ‘the use of force’ downward, as in protecting the property of the rich from the thieving poor, yet people freak when there is a reciprocal demand to protect the poor, the minorities, the unconnected from the wealthy and powerful?

Americans will cheer when a thug is caught stealing from a department store, but are bitterly divided about hauling away the owners of that store when they price-fix, form monopolies, sell unsafe products from China, etc.

  347. Skyhawk says:

I don’t have pictures of myself in my house.

  348. Dar313 says:

Chris is such a tool. He only cares about issue that directly effect him, like gay marriage. Since he is white, he will not have this experience.

  349. Amy outside of DC says:

I don’t have any pictures of me on the wall. Lots of pictures of family member, but I’m not in them. Makes for better pictures.

  350. Dan The Man says:

I don’t have any pictures of myself in my house either!

  351. Khrysara says:

I want to know which one of Gate’s neighbors didn’t recognize him and called the police.

  352. I only have pictures of me with other more interesting people (like my Grand Father or old bandmates, etc..)

  353. #367, I’m a raging egomaniac, so there are pictures, but they’re all of me in kilts, usually period outfits.

  354. Jeanie says:

#361, the police officer says he did a whole lot of things to make himself seem like he was following the correct procedures. Sure he did.

  355. Khrysara says:

I have family pictures on my walls. Doesn’t his ID have his picture on it?

  356. Deb says:

Why are these “birthers” being given any more air space? It’s time to grow up and move on people. His mom was a US citizen and THAT ALONE makes him a US citizen, depsite being born in HI – also proven repeatedly. Geez….

  357. dkl says:

@368 her name is Lucia Whalen, she’s the one that said there were two black men with backpacks messing with the door

  358. Jeanie says:

Is Prof. Gates married? Maybe young people don’t have lots of pics of themselves, but someone older who has family undoubtedly has pics of themselves and their family. Or they could come up with one in a very short time. Just like the police could.

  359. Skyhawk says:

Bill-O is a non-racist. Okay I tried to keep a straight face as I typed this.

  360. scooter says:

There was picture of Gates a few days ago that did show all sorts of pictures and plaques and awards in the background, in fact I actually tried to blow the thing up but it was too pixelated to see any detail. Don’t know if that pic was from his own home or perhaps an office elsewhere.

  362. 368… I’m betting that she was one of those “They all look alike” types…

  363. Amy outside of DC says:

#376 Of course not. Remember when he went to dinner in Harlem with Reverend Al, and then on his show talked about how impressed he was that the people were quietly eating their food, not shouting and misbehaving like he expected?

  364. barbara says:

    Hello Stepanie
Answer to caller Rodney, tell your brothers the police have all the power..be polite, don’t move until asked, and don’t look over your shoulder while driving if they are behind you. I learned that in my 20′s while driving with a boyfriend,he said we’re being followed I looked back and we got stopped, questioned- where are you going,no ticket given…In 2003 I was stopped while turning into UCR campus, dropping off my daughter, car loaded with small children,at night, first question are you on parole or probation, then the license,no ticket given…How many white women get this question…Obama and Gates forgot they were black,at their level…Gates not being calm, with the policeman and Obama using Stupidity is all the Repulicans needed.. 56yr old black female..

  365. Khrysara says:

I must be way behind here. I know all of my neighbors, at least by the way they look. How long had he lived there and why didn’t she recognize this distinguished Harvard Prof.?

  366. Skyhawk says:

Harry and Louise will go either way for cash.

  367. Khrysara says:

I would love to hear the police call from neighbor Lucia. Was she sounding terrified?

  368. Skyhawk says:

381… its called white-blindness. Walk from 6mile to 7mile, along JohnR or Gratiot in Detroit, and feel the unseen eyes on you, feel the ‘what are doing here’ stares up the back of your nervous neck, feel how out of place you are are…

Now, remember that most of us who are minorities feel this way everyday in white America.

  375. Skyhawk says:

    Have a good weekend everyone!

  376. Point of order: Nero didn’t fiddle while Rome burned.

Nero was known for his accomplishment at playing the chorus, which is a droneless bagpipe.

  377. Dan The Man says:

Good weekend everybody. Get some sleep.

  378. PJ Squeezy Louise Hussein McFlavin says:

Wow it got nasty in here – somebody open a window!

    Have a good weekend!

omg, Mama and the Mooks! I collected my stephcast and listened to the first two minutes and you mentioned one of my favoritest comediens, Kevin Meany!
    You Big Pants people! hardy-har-har!
love him! love you! love Carlos and that dreamy John Fugelsang!

Hal is a bit alpha for me (but really smart with good views). It felt kinda like getting yelled at while you were gone, so I didn’t listen.
