  1. I kno Michael’s free from his body now and everything, but his doctor seems like a total hack: he had a pulse when found but it took the Dr. and hour to get him the 3 miles to the hospital. Why didn’t he just hoist him in the car and drive him there himself? Sad.

  2. Skyhawk says:

Ed, Farrah, Micheal, and now Billy Mays? Okay no more deaths for a week or two.

  3. My best friend died four months ago June 25th at the age of 27 because all the health care he could buy was a phony “catastrophic” insurance policy that did nothing but waste his money: http://MichaelWieser.blogspot.com

Sen. Grassley on Finance committee is against a public option for payment/taxation because the insurance company in Iowa has 71% of the market according to Paul Krugman.

We need to call our reps. this week or the public option may soon disappear – http://www.CallCongress.org

  4. Skyhawk says:

Health care can be paid for by repealing both Bush and Reagan tax cuts. That’s about 2 trillion right there.

  5. trojanrabbit says:

I think a better idea is just stop providing health care to congresscritters. We can’t afford it. As their employer I don’t feel like paying for it.

Looks like someone had the wrong week picked for them to go on vacation.

  6. shāf says:

Good morning, everyone. I hope that everyone had a great weekend.

Thanks, as always, to ProducerChris for going the extra mile for the Live Bloggers. You Rock, Sir!

The thing about the deaths is that thousands of people die everyday. So, to say that things are worse because a few celebrities have passed within the same seven days is a bit of a stretch. We morn the passing of friends and family on a frequent basis. It is indeed an aspect of life. And although few of us were alive during her heyday (including me) actress Gail Storm has passed yesterday at age 87. She was the star of the 50′s sitcom “My Little Margie” and “The Gale Storm Show”.

BTW, there is survey documenting evidence of an even larger Generation Gap than the one that existed during the height of the Vietnam War:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31598018/ns/us_news-life/

    Excerpt:

A survey being released Monday by the Pew Research Center highlights a widening age divide after last November’s election, when 18- to 29-year-olds voted for Democrat Barack Obama by a 2-to-1 ratio.

Almost eight in 10 people believe there is a major difference in the point of view of younger people and older people today, according to the independent public opinion research group. That is the highest spread since 1969, when about 74 percent reported major differences in an era of generational conflicts over the Vietnam War and civil and women’s rights. In contrast, just 60 percent in 1979 saw a generation gap.

So, unless the GOP can make in-roads with a new generation of voters, it will go the way of your father’s Oldsmobile.

  7. shāf says:

    Good news…

The House passed the Waxman-Markey climate-change bill. Now, it’s on to the Senate, where many a good bill has died. Let’s keep the pressure on folks. The House passage was not a slam dunk (212 representatives voted no) and things are likely to be even tougher in the Senate. Keep those calls and e-mails going!

  8. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

    rain, rain, rain
    buggy, buggy, buggy
    lush greeen and gorgeous

    Happy mondee from central mass!

  9. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

Hi shaf, and other fellow bloggers

I wrote John Kerry, my Senator for whom I have worked alot, and told him his legacy was at stake with the health care bill. Go with the “trigger” bs (no immediate public option) and you lose all the cred you ever had. Is that lobbyist money so tempting here at retirement age, John? that you would sell us all?

  10. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

#5, troj, I thought about going with the give up your congressional health care coverage when I wrote Sen. Kerry, but with the rich spouse, he could very well use her corporate coverage. wtf (the bastids)

  11. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

#2, with Walter Cronkite so sick, I am almost on vigil.

  12. Skyhawk says:

Comedian and impersonator Fred Travalena died Sunday afternoon after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was 66.

  13. Random says:

    Woot…Hal Sparks, yay

  14. LeftCenter says:

Good morning live blogospherians! Back from a weekend of music in beautiful Elkhart, IN.

Thanks Producer Chris for keeping the live blog going.

  15. shāf says:

    It’s Sparks Time, y’alls!

  16. Skyhawk says:

Take the time to thank your rep for supporting the Climate Bill.

  17. LeftCenter says:

Why would an MD try to do CPR on a bed???? No way can you get any kind of compression with the mattress giving way!

  18. shāf says:

#17 I was wondering that myself.

  19. skyhawk we are probably going to loose Walter Cronkite this week

  20. good morning

#17 #18 I was wondering that … the 911 operator told them to put him on the floor…. unless he knew that the drugs he had just given him a hour before depressed his system so much that there was NO chance, he was just doing it to cya

  21. Skyhawk says:

19 – Storm, Mays, and Travelina. Cronkite? Yeah quite likely. It’s just how fast their occurring.

  22. Skyhawk says:

    Sorry their=they’re

  23. shāf says:

Becks had to work this week? When does she get to take vaca?

  24. LeftCenter says:

There is always a problem when we equate a people with their government.

  25. shāf says:

#25 And Admiral Akbar was a great leader of the Rebellion (i.e. Star Wars) ;)

  26. shaf – sorry to hear about your back … glad you are feeling better

  27. Skyhawk says:

28 – Is he going to give back the cash?

  28. shāf says:

#30 It’s not as bad as yesterday. I made the mistake of lifting and twisting while I lifted our tandem bike up to the roof carrier (dumb!)

  29. LeftCenter says:

Yikes! I just got around to reading the first group of posts, and hadn’t heard about Gale Storm. I don’t know if we watched “My Little Margie” first run, but I remember it in reruns. I do remember the original run of “The Gale Storm Show” (subtitled “Oh! Susannah!”). Her costars were ZaSu Pitts and Roy Roberts. There goes another part of my childhood.

  30. Tony says:

Morning, everyone. It is a gorgeous day here in the DC area. I sure hope we don’t get the triple Hs but you know, it’s almost July, so it’s due.

Anyway, I’ve been doing some blogging. I’ve written about how unexpected companies are turning to green power, and how the consumer’s retrenching and saving is going to hamper the economic recovery.

You can check it out at Buy and Hold Plus Blog.

Oooooh, a break with Blink 182…good stuff.

  31. Tony says:

Guys, who is Gale Storm? Hannah Storm I know, but Gale Storm?

  32. LeftCenter says:

#36 She was a B-movie actress and early TV star.

  33. and the gov of Iran has morphed into the Shah’s government

  34. Tony says:

Cindy…what a surprise, a banana republic coup? And I ain’t talking about one of the managers overruling one of the salespeople on the floor of your local clothing store.

  35. shāf says:

BTW, Honduran exports include: coffee, shrimp, bananas, gold, palm oil, fruit, lobster, lumber.

    Source: http://www.indexmundi.com/honduras/exports_commodities.html

  36. flombaye says:

2: does billy mays really count? – the first 3 times i heard about that, i got to chuckling out loud. that’s not what happens when a real person dies.

  37. flombaye says:

5: there is no wrong week to get such a cool babysitter. steph’s replacement, hal bonaduce, lets us have peanutbutter cookies and malts for every meal and stay up till 4 watching bad movies.

  38. LeftCenter says:

    Another Bush foreign policy disaster.

  39. flombaye says:

28/31: alan greenspan has set a trend not likely to be broken. at some point, it becomes the fashion to just issue a public confession, but keep all the money. – of course, anybody that was ever fooled by greenspan has only themselves to blame.

  40. Tony says:

57…at least Greenspan had the decency to admit he was wrong. You don’t see guys like Gramm or Leach saying they were.

  41. shāf says:

Ha, Ha! “I Ran” for Iran!

  42. flombaye says:

37: re: “Do you remember the days when Bush administration officials claimed that terrorism posed an ‘existential threat’ to America, a threat in whose face normal rules no longer applied?”
    - why yes, yes i do remember that, perhaps even as clearly as i remember december’s foggy freeze, with the ice that clings onto your beard in screaming agony, largely because of this reminder i stumbled upon this very morn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VPQZl1A69U

  43. LeftCenter says:

Bush left Obama a big steaming pile of $H|+ to deal with.

  44. flombaye says:

44: orwell’s “animal farm” did speak to some pretty universal archetypes. – i read it as a kid, somewhere in the nixon/ford vacuum. – i only found out years later that it was a satire on england/soviets. – i thott it was a satire on the USA. – notice that “metropolis” (1927) was just as astute.

  45. Tony says:

Okay, folks, I’m out of here. Catch ya later and do visit my blog.

  46. flombaye says:

47: excellent summary CIB. thank you for posting that, and thank you for reminding me of this masterpiece of self-referential blather:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtVhe2XXHjQ

  47. shāf says:

Things are quiet on the Live Blog… too quiet.

  48. LeftCenter says:

#65 Didn’t General Custer say that?

  49. shāf says:

#66 Yep, just before his denial of service attack (a.k.a. the Little Bighorn).

  50. flombaye says:

48: deeply perverse stuff there. – i realize that the vernacular varies across denominations, but the first thing i notice is that since proselytizing is by definition, a prominent attribute of satanic compromise, it’s carries some pretty dark implications.

  51. flombaye says:

who defines what’s an emblem? – is a blue oyster cult allowed? – even without cowbell?

  52. LeftCenter says:

    #69 Not without cowbell.

  53. flombaye says:

allowing water to drain is also a grate motivator.

  54. hey I did my bit to get us to 100 posts in the first hour … where were all of you?

  55. shāf says:

    #72 A lot of eMooks are M.I.A.

Guess they’ll be no Sparta for us today. :(

  56. flombaye says:

i never did understand how it was racial for don imus to call the nappy headed hos a bunch of “nappy headed hos”. imus never did refer to race anywhere in that statement.

  57. LeftCenter says:

I’ve been posting. I think there’s a sort of apathy here when Steph and the Mooks are missing.

  58. flombaye says:

that is not what ward churchill said. churchill (with very clear disclaimers) described the perspectives of al quaeda.

  59. LeftCenter says:

#74 I think it was a combination of racist and sexist myself. The “nappy headed” part is a racial stereotype. Calling them hos is sexist.

  60. flombaye says:

73/75: they dont realize that we ot the COOL babysitetr. more deep-fried almond-joy-kebabs, anybody?

  61. flombaye says:

77: as a nappy-headed gigolo, i still dont see why they were willing to build their reputations on such desperate demagoguery.

  62. flombaye says:

80: you heard it chris; we have one request for “crash test dummies”.

  63. flombaye says:

    oooh! i hate crime legislation!

  64. LeftCenter says:

It’s pretty hard to tea bag yourself, Hal.

  65. flombaye says:

83: laura ingraham comes pretty close.

  66. LeftCenter says:

    #84 Close, but no cigar.

  67. Skyhawk says:

Micheal Savage has often crossed the line.

  68. flombaye says:

86: michael wiener’s sexual orientation is enuff to make one HOWL.

  69. Steve Ripple says:

Big shout out for Hal Sparks today and last Friday.

Note to producers, bring him back a lot, a regular
    perhaps?

Well earned kudos and wish for some quality time off
    to Steph, Jim, & Chris.

  70. flombaye says:

author unknown: “theater is shouting FREEDOM in a crowded fire!”

  71. shāf says:

I had to Google a bit to find it, but is this the Freedom Index that Hal mentioned?

    http://www.stateofworldliberty.org/report/rankings.html

According to this, U.S.A. ranks #8. Here’s the top 10:

    1 Estonia
    2 Ireland
    3 Canada
    4 Switzerland
    5 Iceland
    6 Bahamas
    7 United Kingdom
    8 United States
    9 Cyprus
    10 New Zealand

    The bottom 10:

    150 Equatorial Guinea
    151 Zimbabwe
    152 Uzbekistan
    153 Belarus
    154 Turkmenistan
    155 Laos
    156 Myanmar
    157 Cuba
    158 Libya
    159 North Korea

  72. flombaye says:

    the boy who cried “loofah”?

  73. LeftCenter says:

What happens if you cry “Loofah” in a crowded theater?

  74. LeftCenter says:

Man, there’s that ticket ad recorded in the Men’s room toilet at the Motel 6.

  75. leorising says:

Greetings, live blageurs! Happy Monday! ^_^

  76. leorising says:

Oh nice! I came to hear Mama’s take on Celebrity Death Week, and here’s Hal Sparks! And I happen to enjoy Mr. Sparks, who is a very funny guy and a good actor — but can her radio? We’ll see, eh? :D

  77. leorising says:

Erm, I meant, “can he radio“…

  78. Skyhawk says:

Rush has been acting a little more crazier than usual.

  79. LeftCenter says:

    #98 He can.

  80. leorising says:

LeftCenter, so I see, so I see…LOL he can really dish, can’t he? :D

  81. LeftCenter says:

I feel left out. I never cared for Michael Jackson.

  82. leorising says:

Don’t feel left out, LeftCenter. I grew up with Michael (just turned 50!) and he’s left me pretty cold since his Jackson5 days. What a weird, damaged puppy…

  83. leorising says:

I ♥ it when Hal trots out his brain…quote me some more statistics, hon…*sighs*

  84. LeftCenter says:

#103 Yeah, I really feel sorry for him. He never had a chance to have a real life.

  85. it’s so sad … a man who was a puppet most of his life .. no wonder he’s self hatred manifest itself in mutilation

  86. LeftCenter says:

#106 And then there’s the whole Peter Pan syndrome with him. He never had a childhood, and he never grew up emotionally apparently.

  87. leorising says:

Cindy, the man was a puppet, yes, but he was also mentally ill, and did things to assuage his emotional illness that normal people couldn’t afford, or couldn’t afford to cover up…his money gave him too much control, and his judgement was too impaired to use it properly. Meh. It’s an interesting tragedy, but I’m more concerned about passing single-payer, personally! (Nice to see you, btw.) :D

  88. Karen says:

Oxy should be “off the market”. Like ludes.
Please protect MJ’s kids from horrible representation, heaven knows nobody ever had his “best interests” as a priority.

  89. leorising says:

MJ seems to have been very popular in Other Places — we here in Portland are kinda nonplussed, y’know. Yeah, tragic pop star death, bummer so sad, it happens, next!

  90. shāf says:

#107 Yep, MJ really was a classic case of arrested development.

  91. Amy outside of DC says:

    Morning everybody.
Remember how Lush Limbaugh was encouraging his listeners to vote for Hilary in Democratic primaries to cause turmoil within the party?

We should register as Republicans so we can vote in the 2012 primary. Palin/Bachmann all the way!

  92. LeftCenter says:

I heard a news story the other day where it was reported that at least some people in Gary, IN would like Michael Jackson to be buried there so the city would become a tourist mecca like Memphis with Elvis. Kind of sad really. People want to profit from him even in death.

  93. flombaye says:

99: “acting”? – well, thank goodness it’s only acting. on friday, rush got twisted that obama would not be steering control of one’s choice of physician into government control. – rush actually played an obama quote on this, wherein obama clearly and simply said that individuals would get to choose their own physicians under obama’s medical schemes. rush defended the HMO-sponsored status quo by actually asking who is obama to give people a choice?. – not just once, but repeatedly and with emphasis – the sort of a framework that would have caused a sentient being to have a thott about the words before them. rush didnt give it any consideration. the words just flowed out of the repulsive hole, and a reactive opposition was stated.

  94. leorising says:

LeftCenter, can you imagine the karma? Born to make money for others, while being bent and broken in the process. Yay.

  95. Amy outside of DC says:

#114 Maybe Limbaugh didn’t want anyone to quote him out of context as Pro-Choice.

  96. leorising says:

flombaye, I read a piece on HuffPo by Chopra and some other holistic doc, they were recommending some kind of legislation to protect celebrities from narcissistic and predatory MDs who overprescribe, etc. I proposed Rush and Dubya as the first candidates for the new program, and what the hell, Laura too. Sounds like it’ll work really well, dunnit? *rolls eyes*

  97. LeftCenter says:

#115 That’s too sad to think about.

  98. Skyhawk says:

Perhaps acting was the wrong word. “Behaving” is more like it.

  99. flombaye says:

112: you rock with shatneresque ferocity. – i’m glad you presented this idea while we have the COOL babysitter. – i’m going to fry you up and extra batch of cookies, and i’ve just e-mailed you a foot-massage at your office.

  100. leorising says:

flombaye, and more to your point (‘scuse me, I’m doing a wake-n-bake this morning), I’ve been wondering if El Rushbo is going off the rails yet. I keep hoping. My best-case scenario is if I happen to just get a wild hair & tune Rush in, just as he’s beginning his career-ending meltdown… :D

LOL Hal, you don’t know Mama & Jim very well. They’re still sleeping, or listening from bed. Chris is drinking coffee and taking notes. You’re doing great! :D

  101. shāf says:

BTW, last night a friend of mine referred to me as a ‘mook’ (and he doesn’t listen to the show). Naturally, I felt honored. :)

  102. leo – I’m not distracted from that but just as I felt empty after watching “The Last Emperor” and wanted to be alone that night .. I feel empty when the account of his life is taken.

Since this song came out it was one of the songs I would listen to to bring me up when I felt drained and that I had nothing left to give.

  103. Amy outside of DC says:

Funny, I’ve been hearing a lot of that about South Carolina’s mess. “He’s doing a great job as governor, why do I care about his marriage?” Shut up, hypocrits!

  104. flombaye says:

117: i still prefer the hilarious hijinks that result from the old school evolutionary process of “paparazzi, stones, and scissors”. – - – see what i mean about steph’s replacement, hal bonaduce giving us more freedom? shaf and robobagpiper are skateboarding around in the swimming pool WITH SCISSORS!

  105. SpiffyHussein says:

I vote for TR’s plan. Repeal Congress’ health insurance.

Hey all. I was so sleepy this morning. Nowadays I’m sleepy in the a.m. but can stay up all night worrying about everything. I drink camomile tea to cope.

  106. flombaye says:

122: had you just channeled 32 different voices by accident?

  107. Skyhawk says:

Rush went slithering behind the ACLU to represent him. The same organization all rwnjs criticize.

  108. Amy outside of DC says:

So Megan McCain buys a house. Just before she moves in, the old tenants drive a car through the wall. Move on Megan, stop blaming those who came before you.

  109. SpiffyHussein says:

#16—that’s good advice. We always hassle them about things we want them to do but not many people send them thank you notes.

    Everyone likes to be thanked.

  110. Skyhawk says:

It isn’t the values, it’s the hypocrisy!

  111. Amy outside of DC says:

If Hal Sparks has never had an alcoholic drink, I don’t think he should be subbing for Mama. We’ll all get the virtual DTs.

  112. flombaye says:

126: spiffy hussein wins a session of manilow therapy.
“take this coper, to the cabana,
and treat them to the stephcast in espana
    give them mocha…”

  113. HYPOCRISY

they don’t get it …. beat me over the head with how moral you are and when you fall wonder why you are mocked

  114. Skyhawk says:

That maybe one of Momma’s dating requirements.

  115. SpiffyHussein says:

#17—-I was wondering about that too. I haven’t heard anything about the Dr. working on him for an hour before he called 911.

But you know what? Many doctors don’t know much about emergency care besides 911. That’s why they will do just what you or I should do—start CPR if you know how and call 911 immediately.

I am wondering if it will come out that MJ was killed by incompetance.
    But we’ll see…..

  116. flombaye says:

132: i hear what you’re saying, despite al the loud trumpeting, but that’s ear elephant.

  117. shāf says:

#131 Exactly. It’s also the case (Newt be an example) that it appears he never learned from his failings. It’s the “do as I say, not as I do” that is the hypocrisy.

  118. LeftCenter says:

#134 a key to the religious right is that whole “redemption” thing. In their minds we’re all fallen, so we all need redeeming. So it’s okay for him to “sin” as long as he seeks forgiveness because that’s the boat all of us are in. And that’s how all of these hypocrites get away with it.

  119. if he had turned over power someone would have thought something was up

  120. flombaye says:

134: EZEKIEL 17: “…YOU WILL KNOW THAT MY NAME IS JEHOVAH !!! … and i am an alcoholic.”

  121. shāf says:

#139 Forgiveness is one thing. Learning from the experience and not repeating it… quite another.

  122. SpiffyHussein says:

    #21—OK, that’s too sad….

  123. flombaye says:

143: now, now, be nice to john mccain.

  124. it shows a lack of TRUE leadership … leadership is holding yourself to a HIGHER standard than you hold others

  125. flombaye says:

at least the gay lifestyle isnt as evil as the scum who think orange juice is just for breakfast.

  126. LeftCenter says:

#143 In OUR eyes that makes sense. I guess not according to the authoritarian religious right.

  127. flombaye says:

    is hal against choice?

  128. flombaye says:

OF COURSE the country is going to hal; he’s dreamy.

  129. SpiffyHussein says:

#32—Ow! The worst back pain I ever suffered was from the “strenuous” activity of taking the clothes out of the dryer. I just screwed it up some how and was on the sofa for a week as a result.

    Throwing your back out sucks.

  130. LeftCenter says:

It’s not absurd to them to go to the de-gayification camps because in their minds being gay is a choice and a sin. If they repent, God will remove the gay.

  131. SpiffyHussein says:

#35—-now if only I believed that consumers “retrenching” and saving would really ruin the economy.

I didn’t know much about the stock market before, but now the more I know, the more I believe it needs strong regulation before your average Joe should put his money there.

  132. We Miss Frangela says:

This guy’s so pathetic. Funny how Frangela got a TV gig that was going to be over by this vacation & suddenly this whiner starts appearing like an intern.
Guess the old Wino decided she’ll be less reminded of her complete lack of acting success by using a guy as a replacement-and not exactly an A,B,D or Z lister.

Funny how she made so many remarks about never watching Frangela on the show & little Nellie Lavoie suddenly disavowed watching it.

Real classy of her to get an on air dig into two people who she USED for as free labor to keep her show alive when she goes off for another mini lift.
Producer boy should be crying in his boyfriend’s arms. If he’s smart he’d be job hunting.

Well, yet another “Progressive radio show” that NEEDED a volitile election period to stay funny & relevant.

    You can have it.

OK the sycophants can attack. Just had to get some reality into this cluster *#!@

  133. flombaye says:

151: is this a reference to post 83?

  134. SpiffyHussein says:

#50—that’s not right. Mays seemed to be a lovable guy. I actually liked his infomercials. He was that likable.

But he had something hit his head that day and didn’t go get it checked out. I guess he thought he’d “walk it off” —-eternal bad advice given by high school coaches everywhere and forever ingrained in the male psyche!

  135. leorising says:

So, wait, this could be a major sociological finding: What is your reaction to the words, “Do as I say, not as I do”? (A) I want to bow down, doff my cap and/or pull my forelock, and say, “Right ’nuff, Guvnuh”; or (2) I proceed to at least attempt to bury my steel-toed boot up their hypocritical ass, then laugh and point as I walk away.

    Answer (A): RWNJ
    Answer (2): Librull!

  136. oh #154 sounds like our little troll who pops in and tries to create trouble … guess it found out how to change it’s name

  137. it’s funny I see busy parking lots and stores in MA and people buying

  138. LeftCenter says:

#158 My dad died that way. He hit his head and was only going to be kept in the hospital overnight for observation when he suddenly suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage. That delayed reaction to a blow to the head is deadly. I’d hoped that Natasha Richardson’s death would have alerted people to that danger.

  139. SpiffyHussein says:

    #112—now there’s a plan! ;-)

  140. shāf says:

#158 Another case (like Amanda Richardson) where you shouldn’t ‘walk off’ a concussion.

  141. shāf says:

    #164 Oops, meant Natasha Richardason.

McConnel’s response in english: We’re too busy trying to screw over the people. We’re not concerned about our members screwing themselves.

  143. leorising says:

We Miss Frangela @ 154, strangely, I don’t disagree with anything you said, except I don’t think Chris actually is gay. I’ve come to the conclusion that Mama is in this Librull Talk Show game as long as it makes money and she can, as you say, get the next mini lift. Stephanie, Chris and Jim have no respect, and no small amount of disdain, for their fans…I haven’t been listening, lately, I’ve found their attitudes to be boring and unfunny any more, and think you may be right, they don’t do well without the pressure of a campaign behind them…they are not self-motivated people, I don’t think, and yet resent that success is not afforded them more readily…okay, now I’m flirting with getting banned, but hey, it felt nice to say. Peace, all.

  144. SpiffyHussein says:

162—I’m sorry. And I’ll bet they didn’t want to do an MRI because his insurance company didn’t want to spend the $$.

  146. We Miss Frangela says:

No Cindy. I didn’t have to figure anything out. And is it creating trouble to state an opinion? That’s very republican thinking on your part.

I KNOW you can’t be getting paid to be a defender of lousy radio from this show.
Did you also stand up for anyone who complained when she used Elaine Snoozler for a fill-in. Oh wait they didn’t have this cutting edge exciting blog back then.

If the show’s so great then why is everyone so busy having random discussions that have little to do with what this unfunny little gnome is stammering about. Answer. Because you’re not missing anything while you’re at it.

Open Blogs are meant for opinion voicing. I’m allowed to voice my disappointment in what used to be my favorite radio show degenerating into a snooze fest every day for six months and now knowing that we don’t even have vacations to look forward to.

Just MY opinion. Relax Honey. You can go back to controling the BORED now.

  147. LeftCenter says:

#162 I wasn’t there so I’m not sure what tests they did, but I do know that they did detect a small amount of blood, on his brain. That’s why they wanted to observe him overnight. He was on Medicare, so he was fine as far as what would be covered.

  148. Skyhawk says:

    Preach Hal Preach!

  149. Amy outside of DC says:

Silly Hal, they’re not pro-life in the literal sense. Once the fetus is born, they don’t give a rat’s ass. They’re very pro fetus.

  150. SpiffyHussein says:

167—-gee, I disagree with all of that.

Steph and the Mooks came to a Democrat fundraiser dinner here in town. Steph did many Democrat fundraiser things here in town. They were not paid for that, the fundraisers did not bring in huge masses of crowds so they probably didn’t build their fanbase any, but they showed up on their days off nonetheless to help out the local Dems.

On the other hand, do all of them have other career aspirations besides the show? Sure! Who doesn’t? Many people hope to move up or move laterally to do other things with their minds and creativity.

I don’t know where all this bitterness is coming from….

  151. LeftCenter says:

#171 There’s commenting and there’s trolling. You appear to not be paying much attention to what’s actually being discussed on the show either since you’re ranting on this stuff.

Maybe we can talk about random stuff because we’re able to multi-task.

  152. rWe Miss Frangela #171

I don’t go on the LB of shows I don’t like an dis the hosts, especially when they aren’t around …. = poor

to each his/her own … I like the show and I leave others to the shows they like and I don’t go on their forums and act like an ass especially when the hosts aren’t there and can’t respond to you

  153. leorising says:

Cindy @ 170, thanks, I hadn’t heard him say one way or the other.

And for the record, I think Hal’s doing a great job, but then, I’m kind of a fan. (Damn, I ♥d QAF!)

  154. shāf says:

#174 I’d say only HALF of those on the Right who claim to be pro-life actually belief as such. Most politicians are cynically using that voting block to elect them of office, and care very little for the thought of eliminating the medical procedure. Again, if there was real desire, there would be discussion of how to reduce unplanned pregnancy (other than the failed abstinence-only education).

  155. SpiffyHussein says:

171—Actually, I think part of the reason the Live Bloggers have discussion about other things is because

    1. this is OUR own ego-fest where we get to show off how smart and funny we are and get our strokes for that

    2. Personally, when I write I hear my own voice in my head so loudly that it’s very hard to hear what the radio is saying. I have missed entire hysterically funny bits because I’m so focused on what I’m writing. (Did Hal just say Wayne Baker? Who is that?)

    3. Many of the things people say and post here are quite interesting.

  156. shāf says:

belief = believe (oh, for an ‘edit’ function!)

  157. Hey “We Miss Frangela” – You need to get your facts straight. Hal Sparks is filling in this week simply because they had asked us to get someone else. They didn’t know if they’d be able to do it because of their appearance on “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here” and the ensuing publicity they were obligated to do.

It’s really bad form for you to criticize the current fill-in host and demand that Frangela be on when you don’t have all the facts as to why they’re not here. Hal is doing a great job, and he is to be commended.

I can’t believe I’m doing this while I’m on vacation, but I had to set the record straight.

    ProducerChris

  158. LeftCenter says:

#179 I think the proof that the politicians are “pro-life” just to get votes is the fact that the Republicans had control of both houses of Congress and the White House for six years and accomplished nothing to ban Roe v. Wade.

  159. Karen says:

We Miss Frangela– Do you know that Frangela didn’t choose to opt out? Do they feel they were “used”? I thought they were totally used by “I’m a Celebrity”, and maybe they needed to turn down the gig with Steph?

  160. Amy outside of DC says:

I guess We Miss Frangela won’t be bringing brownies to the next Hal Sparks fanclub meeting.

  161. leorising says:

:…especially when the hosts aren’t there and can’t respond to you”

C’mon, Cindy, you know Mama & Jim would roast in Hell before they looked at the LB. Chris keeps an eye on it in order to prevent conversations like these — he edits out the fan complaints.

Dunno if you noticed, last time I called the show (several weeks ago), I said something about the “much-maligned LiveBlog” and Steph & Jim just laughed; Chris sounded like he was unhappy with me. Chris doesn’t like me, because I write stuff like this in the LB.

I think I’m looking at a banning at this point, but seriously, I hardly listen to the show any more, anyway. I love you all! Keep up the good lefty fight! *blows kisses, waves grandiosely* ;-D

  162. George Z says:

Hi Hal, Great job. You will always be Michael Novotny to me. It is so nice to hear you on Septhanie’s show and find out that you really are a smart, articulate guy. You support the gay community too. Thanks and good luck to you. L&K, George chicago

  163. LeftCenter says:

    #183 Thanks, Producer Chris.

  164. Karen says:

oops- Thanks Chris, go back to sleep

  165. SpiffyHussein says:

183—yeah! Yeah! What Chris said! Isn’t it wonderful that the fill-in hosts are so busy they couldn’t make it? We are happy for them.

And I think Hal is doing a good job too.

  166. shāf says:

    #181 Hey, we’re the e-Peanut-Gallery!

And yes, we go off on a tangent (particularly on pop culture). But, most of the time, we’re still keeping up with the show. Occasionally, there’s a shout-out to something one of us has written and we all go gaga. ;)

  167. And furthermore, “We Miss Frangela,” my boyfriend has very big arms (as do I, quite frankly), and he is more butch than you could ever hope to be.

  168. shāf says:

#183 Hi, ProducerChris. Thanks for setting the record straight.

    Enjoy your vaca, pal!

  169. leo – Jim has made comments unprompted by Chris about a comment or two on LB .. Steph can’t even operate her cell phone.

Hal is doing a great job and actually I chose to tune in today where I usually pass on subs

  170. um yes (blush) producer chris is ripped

    good eye candy

  171. Skyhawk says:

Thanks ProducerChris. Hal you’re doing great!

  172. leorising says:

I agree, I too am enjoying the Hal Sparks action!

  173. SpiffyHussein says:

188—I disagree. I think they read the Live Blog a lot. It is a good measuring tool for what bits work and which don’t. Plus it’s a place to fish for ideas on a dry day.

Or maybe not. Does it matter really?

  174. well as much as I hate to I have to jump off before the absolute end of the show …. see you tomorrow

  175. SpiffyHussein says:

#194—it’s true. We’re all pathetic groupies at heart, lol.

  176. LeftCenter says:

#201 I really don’t care if they read the LB or not. I’m just glad they have it so we can all interact with each other.

  177. LeftCenter says:

    #203 Speak for yourself. I’m not a groupie…just pathetic.

  178. SpiffyHussein says:

Pew! I gotta change the cat box! Thanks to Rebecca Baker too for helping out Hal.

‘K everyone. Have a great day and don’t forget, the rent is due. ;-)

  179. shāf says:

#201 And yes, with our small contribution, I feel like we are adding to the cruchy goodness of the show. I’d call in, but I maintain radio silence so that my day job is not in jeopardy (I can multitask, but some folks here wouldn’t see it that way).

  180. Amy outside of DC says:

Thanks for filling in today Hal, please come back and do it again tomorrow.

  181. shāf says:

Great job, Hal. You’ve earned your pilot wings!

  182. Juliet Hussein Bravo says:

Great show, Hal– thanks! I’ll probably have to podcast tomorrow but hopefully Wednesday I can join the phalanx and march to SPARTA!

  183. LeftCenter says:

Good show, Hal. Keep it up tomorrow! So long everybody!

  184. Skyhawk says:

Good show! Take care everyone. Let’s try to Sparta for Uncle Hal this week!

  185. leorising says:

What LeftCenter @ 204 said, I love LB as it is (when I come here 4 times a year, now, lol), but Chris pitches LB as a place to interact with cast and crew. I’ve seen Jim pitch his “album” regularly here, but that’s it, usually it’s just ProducerChris coming in to spank us…I wouldn’t give a rat’s, but I think they should stop pitching it as interactive…in any case, I may listen later this week but I don’t think I’ll bother with the LB any more, so adios, mi amigos, my friends and LiveBlageurs! Be well. ^_^

  186. We Miss Frangela says:

LEO. You clearly no your radio. But I’m gay and while I’m not of the all gay public figures should be outed frame of mind. I DO find it odd that a man who carries on, on his facebook page about going to see his boyfriend David with updates as if he packs with a blackberry in his hand and as if he’s an excited little girl with her first boyfriend, being on a progressive radio show that talks about gay issues in which the disscusion could be much enriched by someone in the conversation having the guts to say “Well, as a gay man myself I CAN say…”
I mean you’re not a movie idol to millions of women. Who does he think he is? Tom Cruise.

I’m not one that cares that much about celebrity closet cases it’s your business but that’s in entertainment. They profess to be a topical PROGRESSIVE radio show and Mr. Producer does what he KNOWS is one of the biggest hurts to the gay community by playing “Blank Canvas”
    It’s just cowardly.

I appreciate your adult reponse. Thanks. Have a good week.

  187. shāf says:

Not sure if we’ll get a fresh sandbox today (this one’s still pretty tidy). Regardless, I’ll say “Good morning” here and move to a new blog if one pops up.

  188. trojanrabbit says:

    Morning, shaf.

I’d much rather ProducerChris enjoy his vacation without worrying about this place *waves westward*. As you said, the litterbox isn’t too bad today.

  189. trojanrabbit says:

We had ONE day with a lot of sun, now it’s gone again for most of the week.

Heard the tell-tale screeching of the brakes yesterday. :( Oh well, 90K out of a set of brakes isn’t too bad.

I don’t even know if I should address our new/old troll, but there are some of us who can’t listen live and take perverse pleasure in throwing the liveblog off course. Now if that’s really a problem, I could stop.

  190. shāf says:

#216 I was surprised he popped in yesterday.

I’ll wish a happy National Sovereignty Day to the country of Iraq. Sorry, that we invaded you for no good reason, dudes!

  191. trojanrabbit says:

Unfortunately, I think SOMEONE has to watch this place and he’s it and WMF’s spewage had to be addressed.

    all ok in here?

    Hi Paul! Hi shaf!

  194. trojanrabbit says:

    Hi Carol!

Not too sure how much longer I’ll be around today. I’ve got more training and experiments to do the rest of the week while it’s not too busy. Waiting for the engineers to straggle in and wake up.

  195. shāf says:

    Hi, Carol!

Hope you are doing well. My back is feeling better today (recovering from a sprain on Saturday). Probably will be back to normal be the weekend.

  196. trojanrabbit says:

My wife did some re-arranging of furniture last week, unfortunately it now requires some serious stretching on my part to get to the curtain-pull string. I’ve realized for a long time that I’m a 3rd class citizen (below the cats). ;)

I asked her to fix up my chair (that the cats have claimed as theirs) so I can elevate my sore ankle when I get home. Of course, I got nothing but dirty looks from Cleo and Lucky when I sat in MY chair.

  197. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

Back problems are no fun, shaf. The chronic pain I had for so long is now arthritis (25 years after the accident) so my body moves slow and painfully, esp on these rainy days.

I credit yoga and massage therapy for being up and about.

  198. Carol Hussein in Central Mass says:

    trojanrabbit has a sore foot?
Those kitties must allow you to recover!

  199. trojanrabbit says:

    226

It’s been an on/off issue for a long time. Have had varicose veins for decades and every so often I just need to elevate the feet so they’ll feel better. Plus I overdid walking on some uneven ground a while back and one ankle didn’t care for it.

  200. trojanrabbit says:

Time for work, should be back in an hour or so. Have fun.

  201. LeftCenter says:

Good morning live blogopherians! Have to go to the DMV in a little while to get a new sticker for my license plate, so I’ll be in and out, and if the line isn’t too long in again.
