President Obama will arrive in Saudi Arabia today, his first stop on a Middle East trip that will include a major speech intended to repair a damaged U.S. image. The president will deliver the widely-anticipated address in Cairo, Egypt, tomorrow in hopes of reaching out to Muslims and begin a dialogue.

Debris located early yesterday in the Atlantic Ocean off the northeast coast of Brazil is wreckage from the Air France jet that disappeared Monday, Brazil’s defense minister said. No survivors have been found.

• Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor sought yesterday to hit back against Republican charges that she would let her background dictate her rulings, telling U.S. senators of both parties in private meetings that she would follow the law as a justice.

President Obama is leaving the door open to taxing health care benefits, something he campaigned hard against while running for president. The federal government would reap about $250 billion a year if it treated health care benefits given to employees like wages and taxed them.

Column: Republicans don't want Obama to fail

Politics of late has seen the decline, if not the outright destruction, of responsibility and respect in government and politics at all levels. Many politicians would have you believe that there is only good and bad, with them being the good and their opposition being bad.

Now is the time to recall that working together is what made this country what it is today. It is time to return to a value system based on the common good of responsibility and respect toward all.

How can we get back on the right track? Politicians must offer constructive options to the problems we all face now, not demonize others or only point out their faults without offering a solution. This does not mean that they should give up their core values, but they must explain, demonstrate and live how in changing world.

Republican Sen. John McCain speaks often of duty. One must put the good of the country above his/her special interests. Sen. McCain is leading a battle against the earmark system used in Washington.

Many claim that earmarks are just a small portion of money, but if you can't save a penny, can you save a dime? Earmark spending allows legislators to ignore the larger problems and reward special interests.

Republican Rep. Paul Ryan reminds us of obligation and burden as he stands with Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold supporting a "line item veto" for the President. Done properly, this line item veto can be a powerful tool against earmarks. Done wrong, we can expect to see more of the creative budget making as done by Governor Doyle in 2007.

An excellent example of the way politics should be conducted is by Republican state Rep. Jerry Petrowski. He approaches our problems with consideration and deference to those whose ideas differ from his. His many years in the legislature have taught him that good decisions have support and input from many, not just a few. He does not resort to attacking a person, but offers solutions to complete the task at hand which many times offer compromise that is acceptable to all. Respect is hard-earned, easily lost and difficult to regain, but few seem to understand this as well as Jerry.

Sadly, today's politics is full of self-interest. Rush Limbaugh is not a politician. He does believe in conservatism and has a forum to express his views. You must admit that he has a large and loyal following, but so does Rachel Maddow as an extreme liberal. Both of these people need to shock to keep their ratings high. They are entertainers who earn their living by what they say, not what they accomplish.

Republicans do not agree with all of the president's policies, but no one wants him to fail as president. That's because when leaders fail, so do their followers. No good citizen wants the United States to fail. Some may think that he will fail, but this is far different from wanting him to fail. What we want most is to be a part of the process and have our ideas looked at fairly. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership in Congress continues to exclude Republicans in shaping policy and decisions. Americans must demand that politicians be responsible and respectful of all ideas and people.

Solving our current problems will require us all to be responsible and that will only start if we respect each other as individuals. We must agree to disagree in order to move forward. We need to accept the fact that no one party can successfully run this country -- we need each other.

The H1 was a good, solid military vehicle (except that the military tried to use it as an APC, which it certainly is not). If you like to play soldier, sure. It's uncomfortable enough it was never more than a niche vehicle anyway, like the Jeep. Yes, it acquired a certain social cache (especially as the Jeep became a "chick car" for tomboys), but there's no harm in a few niche monsters being out in the market.

The H2 and H3 were GM's attempt to make a mass-consumer Hummer look-alike. The only thing that was in common with the H1 was the basic look and the ridiculous size. There was no use for them whatsoever other than as a status display. They weren't even particularly well-made, they didn't have a lot of cargo, and were godawful offroaders. The Explorer and Suburban were far superior SUVs for what SUVs are even supposed to be used for.

Have a great rest-o-the-day, Sisters and Brothers of the Live Blog!

such is the signs of mediocrity--hannity has to learn to live with what he can't rise above. Unfortunately, there are too many mediocre losers who think he's brilliant. They wouldn't know brilliant if it snatched back their head and spit down their throat.

NICELY DONE!!!! See y'all tomorrow.
