As the wife of a retired Sergeant who's husband served in Desert Storm, I appreciate your post this Memorial Day. Your family has an amazing history of service. My prayers go to those who have fallen and to those who have been wounded. God bless and keep you.

Sending my love to my departed grandfather, wwI marine. My dad, WWII sailor. My barely surviving father in law, korean war air force sergeant, my late brother, who served in West Germany during the Cold War. My living brother, who served in Vietnam. And my other living brother who was a CO. I served in the Navy. My wife lived all over the world while her father went from korea to germany to turkey to texas, and every other God-forsaken place. My brother in law, who lives with me, served in the army in the first Iraq war. He was in the group that nearly got wiped out by friendly fire that mistook a US troop carrier for an Iraqi armored car and rained missiles on it. And my son, who has served five tours in Iraq, one in Kosovo, and finally earned some time stateside, probably because he's showing signs of PTSD. And my daughter who put on a uniform but didn't stay in the army long enough to call herself a veteran, but I call her a veteran. God bless her, she volunteered. And my nephew who got his leg blown off in a Hummer in Baghdad while serving a second tour with the National Guard. And my other nephew, also a guardsman, who served and then gave the National Guard the finger when they asked him to re-enlist. God bless them all. I hope Legionnaires and VFW auxiliary have put flags on the graves of the dead.

LeftCenter, I'm almost 65 and I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime, but I think there have been some state and locals laws mandating public financing, so it's a start. It is the only answer to the corruption that has consumed our federal politicians!
Hi Frangela and emooks! Wasn't the gun bill a trade-off for Republicans voting for the credit card bill?
I have a ball game to go to, so before I go, just a reminder, take a minute this afternoon to remember those who died for us to be free. See everybody when school is out in a couple of weeks.
We all need to focus on just ONE issue, then every other problem relating to our lawmakers will be taken care of. CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM. When lawmakers receive their campaign funds from the public and not corporations. Major legislation favoring corporations solved.
#91 It was a joke, based on her saying (as the post I was responding to) "Democrat" instead of "Democratic." That's the problem with print.
I have a feeling that the next segments starts...
Idiot of the Week (Week! Week! Week! Week! Week!...)
87 - No, Angela is nowhere near a right-wing tool. Just because we are liberals doesn't me we have to agree with everything the Democrats do.
Here's a photo I heard about on NPR. It's of 3 GIs in Afghanistan. They got roused out of bed in a hurry and one of them was in his boxers and sandles.
Hey look at this cute story in the Times yesterday about ranchers downsizing to mini-cows 'cause they eat less but will produce plenty o' milk.
I want a mini-cow!

75---Tom Cruise runs fast. Do you think they did that with CGI? He's a 4 minute miler for sure in the movies.

"And in the afternoon Mission Impossible III was shown. It showed graphic representations of physical and psychological torture of the lead character—an American."
who was tortured? Tom Cruise or the audience?

Remember 8 years ago when Cheney was heading an anti-terrorism task force? You know, the task force that NEVER HELD A SINGLE MEETING! Kept us safe for 7 years, my Aunt Betty! He ignored the Clinton administration's advice that osama bin laden should, to coin a phrase "be at the top ov our lissht!".
OH! I noticed a media fear blitz yesterday!
On the early morning news shows Sunday everyone was talking about Gitmo and national security. I couldn't watch any of them because all the RWings all sounded like dumb ***es to me.
THEN last night while looking for something to watch I noticed that the National Geographic channel had a big 9/11 documentary running. Hmmm. How odd to have a 9/11 movie running the day before Memorial Day and the same day that the RWings got on all the talk shows to yell "Be afraid, be afraid, be afraid!"
And in the afternoon Mission Impossible III was shown. It showed graphic representations of physical and psychological torture of the lead character---an American.
What an odd convergence on TV yesterday.

California is a mess... and so is most everywhere else.
the good old USA is staggering like a broken bum (no health care, no job, no home).
59---Boxer knows how to express key points with passion and intelligence. She's always a breath of fresh air. Feinstein, god love her, is a fading rose. She has done a lot of good but for the past 4 years she seems like someone who should be picking a knitting pattern, not necessarily making decisions that can affect the lives of millions.
Many of the East Coast Dems have a lot to offer in terms of intelligence and being able to smell a lie when it walks into the room. Out here on the West I'd love to see Gavin Newsome either be govenor or run for congress. I'd love to see Jerry Brown climb the ladder too but so many people have bad memories of him it might not work. Villaraigosa, the mayor of L.A., has a lot of work to finish here, but after about 4-6 years I think he could be a good congressman if he ran in the right district.
if anyone's bored during the commercial breaks, I've a 2.75 minute rant posted.

#57 The only Democrat in a leadership position now that seems to be able to work a strategy is the President.
31---Cheney must have studied all of Hitler's strategies. Truly he imitates that guy with every chance he gets.
38---I'm not crazy about Reid either. He's very reasonable but sometimes we need a Howard Dean-type who can be both reasonable and outsmart the other side. Reid doesn't seem to know how to work a strategy.
G'morning all.
Can hardly wait til the next time I go to Yellowstone and see everyone toting shotguns on the roofs of their RV's. It will make the park so much more family friendly. NOT!
#26---gangs. Out here I have learned that gangs take the place of a family for some kids. For others it takes the place of school. If they feel like a failure in high school they can join a gang and it will be a place where they can be successful as long as they do what they are told.
Plus there are a lot of male macho role models in gangs; something that very much appeals to many a fatherless boy.
