sometimes foresight is 2020.
i’m not a monster; i’m just ahead of the curve…
so maybe i’m one of the first to say so,
i must emphatically advocate biden-olbermann 2020.
this is in response to the latest lame trial balloon of a fox party talking point: an effort is afoot to undermine wanda sykes’ observation that rush limbaugh has overtly and repeatedly expressed agreement with the bin laden position of wishing the USA to fail. (the only problem with their attempt to undermine wanda’s perspective here is that rush limbaugh has koudly and repeatedly expressed agreement with the bin laden position of wishing the USA to fail.) – how does olbermann fit in? thusly:
if one treats oneself to the concentrated experience of these four essays in rapid concert…

[4] keith olbermann to mr bush
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvz9jyf4gUk&feature=related
…one sees that once the parameter is satisfied, of using language clean enuff for television, olbermann gravitates toward direct expression of unpalatable truth. olbermann’s language is polite. olbermann is not confused by the public need for polite language, into conceptual censorship. as olbermann hizzoneself says, we all deserve better.
the last of these four highly recommended olbermann essays speaks quite resolutely to the sycophantic blindness which seeks to undermine the ridicule which limbaugh has so deliberately earned. – i’ve even heard a radio skank try to disallow wanda sykes’ reference to limbaugh’s adamant advocacy of bin ladenism, on the premise “nothing about 9-11 is funny”. presumably, that would include diarrherun’s lame attempt at humor in searching for WMDs under the desk. the mendacious moron was not even clear on the concept of humor, for that would have been a ridicule for those who were fooled by the WMD claims, which at last count, does not include anybody whose perspectives were not compromised either by monetary gain, or by military orders. the search under the desk for WMDs amounted only to self-ridicule, and ridicule of self may be the closest that diarrherun ever came to getting something right. still, olbermann builds a very solid case that silence may be the closest that diarrherun (an “extruded-again” fundamentalist) may ever come to dignity.
so while i must admit that i can not possibly compete with this man for the affections of stephy, i can still challenge stephy to jello wrestling for a chance at olbermann. – and could we get lavort to referee? i’m not sure that mills lane has any lederhosen.
Good Morning Bloggies! Been away for a few days…I see capt is still staying away:(
Wanda Sykes–FUNNY. I think she even kept herself a bit restrained…
And the prez killed with the funny! So great to have not only glamour back in the white house (as huffpo blogger Versace writes), but elegance, intelligence, and good writers and great delivery!
good morning, Denver, city on the bay!
Frangela is gonna be on Oprah!
This Wednesday O is having a day of comedy (incl. Dane Cook). Oprah, obviously jealous of Mama but wanting her attention, has invited Frangela to join her! (and her audience of a ga-zillion people).
uh-huh, yes she did.
Yay Frangela!
Hi Sue,YES, wasn’t the dinner fun to watch?! It’s like the Academy Awards for political junkies such as myself.
What a lift to see our funny, elegant, intelligent President!
Good Morning, blogging pals! And a gracious “Good morning” to Team Steph.
I’m looking forward to hearing from Scott Hamilton. We share a connection to his home town, Bowling Green, OH. I went to college there (at BGSU) and still have family there. We also performed in the University’s Ice Arena (okay mine was just a P.E. class). It’s also where I learned the sport of curling. He’s been an inspiration to all of us in the community.
#3, and I was this close to going! (Okay, by “this”, I mean my chances evaporated six months ago).
Hi, shaf!
I have driven through Bowling Green more times than I can count! Fun to hear your connection.
Here’s a YouTube appetizer of Frangela:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzQ386wjIDw
The girls are funny.
#5 Peter, I paid attention to how close we all came via you to a first hand report of the festivities. ah-well. I bet something horrible would have happened and you’re better off.
I gotta chuckle, though, at the thought of your being there in full regalia, the Scottish guy from Texas.
#4 I also graduated from BGSU–class of 1980! Scott Hamilton was in classes with a friend of mine–tho I never met him. Also the year that 2 BGSU hockey players were on the Olympic team that beat the Russian team—exciting stuff!
#8 SueC, we are alums from the same year! What are the odds?
#2–I Love Frangela! I sent them an email to ask when they would be coming to Dallas to perform–and actually got a response. It was exciting:-) And yes, I’d like to believe it came from Francis & Angela personally…
#10 I can believe it was a personal response. I have Frangela as Facebook and MySpace friends and usually Angela is speaking for them.
#8 Yes, 1980 was a crazy year. Add to that, the Iranian hostage crisis. They were some emotional times.
#8 Weird.
I rarely get back that way anymore–I’ve moved around the country quite a bit and don’t have family in OH any longer. I think the last time I was in BG was about 10 yrs ago, when visiting cousins at their cottage on Lake Erie. I didn’t notice too many changes…I even had to stop in the bookstore for a tshirt! Good Times:-)
#10, Sue, Frangela say on air they answer all their email. so, cool!
and how wild that you and shaf went to college together! way cool!
I grew up in Dayton and went to college in Ann Arbor.
#7, I know. Just still kicking myself. Mostly because it amuses me to do so.
WTF!!!!
Keith Olberman’s “Girl Friend” Joins the Weather Channel

*drmam sting*
#14 & #11 Wow–good to know that it perhaps was a personal response! That’s cool.
Carol–I had a boyfriend in college from Dayton; went to his house there a few times. And Ann Arbor…didn’t make it there; but isn’t that where they had the ‘hash bash’ every year??
#17, Sue, yep, Hash Bash!
It’s all about Peace.
#18 Compared to our brethren down in Athens, OH (Ohio University) who seem determined to turn the annual Palmer Fest block party into a riot, it is peaceful.
Good morning, Gentes. Hope you are all doing well.
Morning, all. It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood, with the sun shining and providing my plants with something they’ve been missing. You know, it’s rained so much that the plants I put in the planter boxes have drowned? I had to put new ones in.
Anyway, I have to get ready for work so I’ll be back in a few minutes. But I just blogged about Banks, Credit Lines, and the Economy so if you have some time, I’d love to get your feedback.
Good morning everyone!
Did you folks see this? WANDA SYKES’ OFFENSIVE ROUTINE.
http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/tapped_archive?month=05&year=2009&base_name=wanda_sykes_offensive_routine
19 My brother, who attended Balwin Wallace, was arrested down in Athens around 1994. LOL I took him to court where there were a bunch of 20-year-old guys with their big sisters. The judge lectured them all that their parents weren’t paying to send them to nice schools just so they could drink and party…but let them off with a small fine.
Gotta run–Later Bloggies!
If they’re polyester, technically they’re not Lederhosen.
they’re not “Goldfish” crackers at a Japanese restaurant — they are “Koi-fish” crackers…
Morning! Left assorted bagels and cream cheese on the table.
Was that a clip from Ed Wood?
Hmm – I thought Kimonos were traditional Japanese wear! Ooops!
Ricola for Jim, STAT!
Macho Ann! — hilarious, Ken. Great drops in there!
Mornin’ All!!!! Back today after taking a day off from work (and the SMS Live Blog) yesterday. What’d I miss???? Cliff Notes anyone??
Lohan – low-rent
Jim so enjoyed playing with Stephanie’s box the day she was gone. He really needs his own.
#33 Somehow, I think the cost of having my number on her speed dial far outweighs any fun in the sack. Just sayin’.
33: apparently, boy george just got out of prison from imprisoning either amy whinehaus or lindsay lohan in polyester lederhosen.
Amy Winehouse = How is this girl still alive?
#37 She must have nine lives. But, I fear she’s down to her last couple.
#36 also known as “When Celebrity-Stack Collides”
poker player
Annie was shady but I liked her.
Joan was not at her best on that show. She looked like a brat and was way over the top calling someone “Hitler”. She sounded like a right-winger in a fight! (Her daughter was even WORSE.)
You know, when I heard that Jack Nicholson “you can’t handle the truth” line I thought that applied so well to so many politicians and those who vote for them!
Seriously, you’ve got the Boehner blubbering about how the spending in the stimulus bill is bad despite Moody’s finding that spending gives you the best bang for the buck!
I’d like to see Miss California stripped….but I think she can keep her crown on.
41 It was a game for charity and Annie plays games for a living. I think she should have won. She was more professional than Joan and raised a lot more money. When Joan came back, Donald said, “You’re a pro.” and I thought…No, a pro doesn’t stomp off in a huff, insulting people because their daughter lost a game.
42 – Joan & Melissa. Talk about co-dependent.
I hate the onstar ads. This guy was okay, but the ones who are all panicked and screaming and sound like chickens with their heads cut off? Panicking is not good in any situation. The first thing they tell you about how to handle emergency situations is STAY CALM!
44 — easy there, squeezy!
Oh, and btw –
Hiya, Bloggoes!
“I don’t know if it’s a ‘fun fact’, but it’s a fact.” *Matthews HA!*
#44 I just thought of the song, “You Can Leave Your Hat On”. Substitute “crown” and you have a winner.
Morning Madduane! Did you see the Star Trek yet?
52 — I did, I did! wha’d'ya think?
#51 – brilliant – “You Can Leave Your Crown On”
#51 – but only works if the Great Donald grants another pardon…
I have a question on this whole “hit bottom” thing. Do ya really think so? Or is it just that the fake money being pumped into the economy is leveling things out for a bit, until the whole fake money thing stops working?
I don’t have a problem with recycling the TARP money. If it’s supposed to go into the general treasury, then why can’t it be paid back out?
I’d much rather use that money again than come up with more!
56…read my blog. That will give you my opinion.
#56 Not surprisingly, WSJ asks if this is a Sucker’s Rally:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124208415028908497.html
53 – Loved the film! The cast did an excellent job. I like the bits with McCoy injecting Kirk. It was a good film especially for non-fans because there weren’t any continuity issues that would leave them scratching their heads. I would say more but I’m trying to avoid spoilers.
awesome. what cheney has to say. – the suckers for dick shall have their rally.
#60, as much as I hated the movie (for its shoddy, lazy writing as much as the continuity), I will say that the one thing I really enjoyed was McCoy.
61: there was always this head-scratcher for non-fans: why was there so much humanoid physiology and so much english all thru the galaxies? you cant even find that one mile into our own oceans.
#61, they established that in a (scientifically dubious) TNG episode – a very ancient race seeded life in the Galaxy with DNA splices that would eventually self-organized into humanoid life, because they were lonely or something.
62, 60 — the casting was pretty great across the board, actually. It was also, from the standpoint of being a summer popcorn extravaganza, yep. I came out of it feally really positive about it, but the more I think about it, the more I realize there was a general lack of sophistication that’s kind of tarnishing it for me.
That said, I think its on track to be the most successful Start Trek movie yet.
65: good point, andit accords with the pattern that animals tend to make gods in their own image, because the humanist gods are always so astoundingly bitter and lonely.
Dick Cheney talking….. blood boiling….. urge to kill increasing…..
You know, how about this…instead of taking health care away from the congressional reps, giving the same level of health care to the rest of the people.
If I were a congressional rep pushing for health care reform and someone like the Boehner said government health care is bad, m’kay, then I’d say, well, then how come you use it?
65 – I be asleep. Must need caffeine badly… I meant to say it’s a great example of a summer popcorn movie (pardon fractured syntax) and “feally” should have been an actual word, maybe something like “feeling”.
ugh.
Not that the alternate-timeline plot is the most original device in SF; For the rebooted Trek, it’s appropriate if nothing else to shed all of the continuity issues that has plagued the series and films. It’s a fresh start for a new audience and potential future fans.
Gdub NEVER knew what was going on.
somebody should just tell the waterboy that cheney said gatorade is more hydrating than NORAD, and then stand back.
Why do we listen to Cheney? He should be ignored because he is no longer relevant.
congress should earn minimum wage and be limited to that–husband, wife, and whatever minor children–all other income should go into a blind trust. They should have medicaid (or medicare if they are over 65). If they want better healthcare or a higher income, they should have to vote on it and everyone else on medicaid and minimum wage would also benefit. Corporations should not be allowed to lobby. When corporations can bleed and die in defense of the nation, they may have a say in political life. Until then, they are banned from Capitol Hill.
#65, don’t believe the box office numbers until you inflation-adjust them. Hollywood doesn’t do that because it means it’s easier to break (meaningless) records as a matter of course as a marketing tool.
You can’t ban corporations lobbying. There is this thing called the first amendment, which guarantees the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.
73, I wrote to Bob Shiefer (host of face the nation) to demand to know why he would have cheney–a known pathological liar–as a guest and allow him to spread his lies unchallenged. I asked if he was that hard up for guests. Was there NO ONE who could tell the truth about the Bush administration whom he could have as a guest? I challenged his judgment, suggesting that cheney had punked him somehow, like ali g, pretending to be a person who would be a serious guest and discuss serious matters truthfully, but only using Face the Nation as a platform for further pettifoggery.
75 — Good point. It would be interesting to see an “inflation adjusted” list of the highest grossing movies.
“Soldiers work for corporations, not for the people.”
http://www.mikemalloy.com/2009/05/11/soldiers-work-for-corporations-not-for-the-people/
http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm
Nothing in the First Amendment guarantees free speech to corporations. Redress of grievances is intended for individuals.
Okay, folks, on that note, I am out. Off to work. Have a good day and I’ll see you tomorrow. As always, I’d appreciate it if you headed on over to my blog and left comments and supported my advertisers!
Gabby, corporations are considered to have the same privileges as people by law. And what are they comprised of, anyway? Individuals. Individual lobbyists will always be on the Hill.
Ain’t gonna change. Just get used to it.
80 — I don’t see how that bit of semantics gets you anywhere. It’s people doing lobbying on behalf of corporations, isn’t it?
#78, ask and you shall receive:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
I think another interesting list would be the same, but normalized to a constant population. Clearly, more people = more tickets sold. That’s one of the main reasons that even inflation adjusted, there’s a bias toward recent movies. But it speaks to more people, not necessarily “more popular”. I think if you did that population adjustment, Gone With The Wind would loom even higher over Star Wars than it does now.
75 & 78 Here’s a listing of inflation adjusted top films:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
Good Morning Mama, mooks, and fellow bloggers
Must we!!
84 & 84. I find that list satisfying.
Oliver!!
Yes, Jim. I refused membership a few years ago (in AARP). Mostly, cause I disagreed on their crafting of Medicare Part D (drug benefit) but also, cause I don’t want to admit my age.
Hey Kids!
sick as a dog. allergies crushing me. Jim’s Kim Jong Illin’ making
me feel a littul better though.
OMG!! Wall E Gator
poor little Kim Jong. Crazy as a crap house rat.
Starving his people. little bastard.
I don’t want to hear from RWNJs.
Excuse me I have read the Constitution. Damn right wing tool
Now Pete, the expert on The Constitution and The Geneva Convention, will grace us with his expertise. Blach!
sorry for swearing this guy is just chapping my ass
way to early in the morning when I feel like doodoo
and everything seems to be conspiring to get me all
torqued up…
Caller Pete is presenting the straw man that irregulars/terrorists don’t deserve humane treatment… FAIL.
Constitution also says that Congress can only declare war!!!
Caller, you’re kind of a moron.
Geneva Common Article 3 applies to EVERYONE not currently in combat, whether through capture, civilian, injury, or whatever. The SCOTUS has ruled the same.
I have read Geneva, caller. Clearly you have not.
Pete is a Billo whore moron and here’s how I know…
(took all of 3 seconds to disprove him!)
http://mediamatters.org/research/200512120008
“SUMMARY: On The Radio Factor, host Bill O’Reilly again falsely claimed that Geneva Convention protections apply only to those in “uniform” and “fighting for a recognized country.” In fact, the protections outlined in the Fourth Geneva Convention extend to civilians, not only uniformed soldiers. “
My daughter got caught stealing makeup.
In court we said she was just using “ENHANCED SHOPPING TECHNIQUES.”
The judge was a conservative so he let her off.
I love this country!
Geneva Common Article 3, clause 1:
(1) Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed ‘hors de combat’ by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
(a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) taking of hostages;
(c) outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment;
(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
shaf, mel, dave, rocky thanx for being there with me.
Can’t blame Steph for putting a Toole on though, they
do get the old heart rate up… which slimy rock did
that idiot crawl out from under though? McCain is a
Liberal?! WTF?!? Hey Goofy, go back and read the Constitution
and the Geneva Convention and find me the spot where it
says to go torture people, you Nazi filth.
This Geneva Conventions uniform thing is bogus
http://mediamatters.org/research/200512120008
As for the uniform issue related to the Geneva Convention, the U.S. Army Special Forces and the Delta Force fight Clandestine Wars all of the time not in you typical military uniform. Are they covered under the Geneva Convention? What about the CIA Clandestine Operators in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, not in uniform?
The truly sad part is that pete the tool actually accuses everyone else of being ignorant and needing to read the Geneva Convention while he misrepresents or, assuming he did read it, LIES about what it says.
#104 Excellent reference, PeterW!
104. which the Bush administration acknowledged … applies to terror war detainees held by the United States (AP)
What about Black Water when they were there, they weren’t in uniform.
PeterW,
I have not read the Geneva Conventions.
So, what do you think of these Bush designation of “non military combatant”.
Is this just another example of how they torture the language?
Re the caller, the Geneva convention argument is one that is often used to dismiss torture claims and realistically gives enough space for the Bush & Co to get out of trouble.
However, the United States is also a signer of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which does outlaw torture. In 2005 (thinking ahead) the Bush administration issued a report to the UN stating that torture abroad by the United States should not be covered by this treaty.
They had their legal out planned years ago.
If they had paid as much attention to the economy as they did to torture, things right now would be much better.
105 Right on, my friend! It really rubs me the wrong way when these folks claim they know the law while they’re clearly just listening to right-wing talking points! Plus they question our patriotism on a regular basis!
We’re allowed to commit world historic crimes [Yes,
Poisoning Iraq for hundreds of thousands of years
with Depleted Uranium DOES count as World-Historic
since it will kill innocents for generations to come]
we can kidnap, murder, what-Ever… We’re the Neocons,
we do what we like, we make you pay for it, we use
your naive kids to do it, we profiteer from it, we
LAUGH IN YOUR FACES
Wrong caller! http://mediamatters.org/research/200512120008 Chris? Steph? Read this…
Caller, you’re wrong. Geneva DOES apply to everyone not currently fighting.
Shoutout to David. Yay!
woohoo! Thank you caller!
woo hoo!!
It just comes down to being informed before opening ones pie hole
If you deny the protections of the Geneva Convention to
others then you strip if from our men and women. Since I
have friends in harms way that really bothers me, but it’s
wrong Wrong WRONG in any case. How Long Oh Lord until
these NeoCon bastards are brought to account? When? What
will it take? AAAGH! Gack! Don’t make me start drinking
whiskey this early.
#112, the bit about uniformed soldiers is from another article. The jist being that captured uniformed soldiers have rights beyond those minimal ones listed by Common Article 3 (and quoted by me above).
I actually find some merit in the argument that terrorists aren’t exactly soldiers and aren’t exactly criminals.
But I DON’T accept than we can do anything sadistic thing we want to them!
If they are, indeed, a new kind of combatant, we should append the Geneva Conventions and our own military code.
122. Mark start slow the Mama way: BOX WINE!!
#124, the fact that they’re not soldiers is irrelevant. If they’re prisoners, they fall under CA3.
Time for Scott!
The gun-ho repugthugs are still out there trying to justify the unjustifiable. They’re all Bill O’Reily, angry White men, who are terrified of the brown people. I say to all of them, get your guns, get on a plane to Iraq, Pakistan or Afghanistan and take care of your testosterone-laden fear over there. We are American, we don’t torture.
>> Derrick says:
>> What about Black Water when they were there, they weren’t in uniform.
Believe-it-or-not, Black Water DID have different rules.
Well, to be exact, TOTAL IMPUNITY.
It’s still a stunning aspect of the Rumsfeld, Cheney rule.
Yeah Scott H!!
#110, and Bush’s selective application of CA3 was a war crime; and smacked down in Hamdan by the SCOTUS.
Flush Dim-bulb and his Rush To Excrement… his
schtick got so old so long ago. Fat Hypocrite.
Hey Rush, how about admitting that criminalizing
drug addiction is WRONG and that addicts should
be treated with compassion, by medical professionals,
not freaking cops prosecutors and jailers. But
NO, you’re special and everyone else should die
or suffer. Nice trip to the Dominican Republic
with a suite case full of Viagra, you pederast
sex-tour scumbag.
Look up Cheney and Rumpsfelch when they worked running
Gerry Ford. There is a picture of the two of them working
Ford on the CIA/LSD defenestration [yeah, I used that word!]
murder case of Frank Olson. Those two crooks have been up
to no good for a long, long time.
ProducerChris, can you give a shout out from the BGSU Alums on the Live Blog?
125 thanx Dave, good idea. Franzia makes a lovely boxed vino.
The only prollem is what to do with all the empty boxes. I’m
building a fort in the back yard… I think Moma’s makin’ a
house for Oliver…
#126 You’re right. Here’s text from the Conventions that never gets mentioned:
“Article 5
The present Convention shall apply to the persons referred to in Article 4 from the time they fall into the power of the enemy and until their final release and repatriation.
Should any doubt arise as to whether persons, having committed a belligerent act and having fallen into the hands of the enemy, belong to any of the categories enumerated in Article 4, such persons shall enjoy the protection of the present Convention until such time as their status has been determined by a competent tribunal.”
Note that is says that they enjoy the protections until it is proven they don’t qualify. Not until the leader of the military holding them decides.
!!Oliver!!
136. Excellent point
#136, correct; captures on the battlefield fall under CA4 until determined otherwise; and then if otherwise they fall under CA3.
In neither event is torture permitted.
“on behalf of corporations” tells the tale. That needs to end.
I read “Big Boy Rules” about a month ago.
http://bigboyrules.com/
It’s about the mercenaries in Iraq. It’s in the “new non fiction” style and not some dry analysis. It was appalling and sad, too.
The mercenary gig attracted some psychopaths but mostly just ex-soldiers who wanted the money. But, without rules, they also did some really horrible crap.
The temptation is to call for the torture of neoCons, but we
can’t fall to their level. They all deserve fair trials and
punishments that are neither cruel nor unusual. Not because
they are anything good, but cause we are. So, a nice hanging
or lethal injection after a proper trial for their crimes
of premeditated war of aggression, genocide, murder, treason,
torture, kidnapping, spying, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum
will be just fine.
141 thanks for that Ron. The OTHER rethug crime was Privatization.
I TOTALLY sympathize with Code Pink’s goals but I still find them irritating.
earlier today a news photo of a serviceman manning his weapon in his boxer shorts showed how quickly you can go from bed to battlement on the front (most guys just sleep in their uniforms, but it was probably too hot). Imagine the guy in his boxer shorts is captured. Is he not entitled to protections of the Geneva conventions because he isn’t wearing a uniform? The south during the unpleasantness between the states did not issue uniforms. The men had their wives or slaves make uniforms for them or just put on the grayest clothes they had or just showed up in whatever they farmed in. This was before the Geneva conventions, of course, but would those men not be entitled to protections? As a military man, I only wore my uniform eight hours a day and I spent the rest of the time in my civvies. If Norfolk had been invaded in the middle of the night, the ships would be putting to sea manned my men in tie-dye t-shirts and bluejeans, wearing running shoes and no hats. … well, you get the idea.
Erich Prince the owner of Blackwater [SchwarzWasser] little
Rethug filth, beneficiary of the Amway pyramid scheme fortune
along with little Dickey DeVos, crimelord of Western Michigan
and wannabe governor [thank god that died]
“Christian”, Millionaire Mercenary… what a nice combination.
You make Baby Jesus Cry.
Now Producer Chris you know we have our whiners on the left. It’s part of the job.
It is a damn good show, Chris
code pink’s purpose is to serve as an irritant. They comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. This should be government’s job, but since government hasn’t done its job in decades, organizations like code pink appear to fill these necessary niches.
This is WHY Code Pink is annoying. It’s all ineffective theatrics, no matter that their hearts are in the right place.
And when you rely on theatrics, you run the grave risk into turning into drama queens. Like the caller.
Ah-ha. Keep blabbin’, Evil Dick. Yer hangin’ yerself
and killing the rethug party. Keep on keepin’ on.
#147 Honestly, I don’t agree with Cod Pink’s tactics. There are other ways to bring an anti-war message than just being royal pains in the a**.
Cod = Code
Is the caller a Transformer?
#152, I agree with Kos. Primarying Lieberman for his position on the war did more to end the war than all Code Pink’s activities combined.
#155 Leiberman…hee hee littul Joey’s Got ‘Jomentum’.
See also ‘santorum’
caller too dumb to figgure out torture ain’t right.
don’t got two brain cells that pull in the same direction.
I’ve had a lot of terrible wine in bottles. I’ve drunk a lot of wine out of boxes and I have never had a complaint with the exception that the wine doesn’t have a lot of personality. It’s usually fresh, not overly sweet, a bit of tickle for the tongue and a bit of pickle for the liver. It’s generally good, decent wine, often better than wine of the same price in a bottle.
Yeah! Torture’s different when WE do it! We’re America! F*ck yeah! Our sh*t don’t stink! God chose us to rule the world, so anything we do is by definition moral!
Torture advocates are too bright either, i.e. the last caller?
Another casualty of the Bush Administration are Muslim democracy movements — because of the backlash against
I just got out of the shower. I think I heard a caller say they wanted to hear Madea Benjamin. I agree, I’d like to hear her on the show too.
Perhaps there are other ways to end the war, but none of them have worked even with an anti-Iraq war prez in the wh. Code Pink is brave, IMO to put thenselves out there. Most people won’t even attend a peaceful rally or write ltte. Lieberman would still be kissing got hinny if they had any power at all left.
Oops! Hit “submit” too quick.
Another casualty of the Bush Administration are Muslim democracy movements — because of the backlash against Bush’s insane attempt to spread democracy at the barrel of a gun.
#157 It’s pretty clear, the emotional maturity of those who still advocate torture. The arguments: “we gotta hurt them, cause they hurt us” or “if torturing one person saves hundreds/thousands, it’s worth it” are symptomatic of arrested development.
you can’t separate out the individual strands of the movement and say “this one is effective” and “this one is ineffective.” It’s all important and necessary, from the op eds to the lawsuits to the marching in the street to the disruption of subcommittee meetings. The clothes are important, the message is important.
I want dick vader to prove that hundreds of thousands were saved by torture. He can’t possibly. Who in the ME even has the potential to kill that great a number in the US at this point?
Heh heh heh Now that the Rethugs ship is going down
the rats turn on each other… Donner, Party of Twelve…!
It’s nothing personal, you just drew the short straw, so
hold still…
I have to agree–too many elected officials and philanthropists and culture vultures, and not enough grass roots people. I haven’t heard Cindy Sheehan on the radio in quite a while. Medea Benjamin would certainly have something interesting to say. Cheney is a buffoon and a liar of flanaganesque proportions. I get it. What is going on in the peace movement? It’s still going on you know–still demanding to get out of Iraq AND Afghanistan. The change of administration changed nothing in the opposition to the war c ulture
What a pile of right wing tools we have this morning?
Anyone else feel like using “Enhanced Neck Massage Techniques” on them?
what kind of wine should the donner party have had on hand? Chianti doesn’t travel well, I’m told. Would a bordeaux go well with a cannibalized meal?
Finally, an actual military person instead of a right-wing tool!
How did that guy NOT get shot by someone?
#171 I don’t know, but it’s likely made from grapes of wrath!
If for the very least, the vets need counseling to recover from all the Right Wingers they run on Armed Services Radio.
hi live blog. first time back in a while…
i was just listening in my car and heard some moron named dennis call in and say “dont you dare equate what we did with what saddam did!”
i’m not sure of the exact quote, but isn’t a rose still a rose by any other name? no matter how much more brutal saddam’s forms of torture were, both his regime and the bush regime tortured. and torture is torture. it can absolutely be equated. a little torture is no better than a lot. torture is torture and no matter who’s doing it or for what reason, it’s wrong.
i’m probably a couple minutes late with this, but hearing that dude say we cant equate torture with torture really pissed me off…
171 ha! Since human is also known as “The Long Pig”, I’d say
go with a white. ‘Pork the other white meat’ has a whole
other meaning now doesn’t it?
#170 ‘Enhanced Neck Massage Techniques’ ROFLMAO thank you Ron
Morning all! Code Pink Catawba travels well. Seriously, I respect anyone who puts effort into ending war. Al least they’re doing SOMETHING!
Yes! Thank you caller. The US military has never been
all that good at insurgency warfare unless we get to be
the insurgents. It’s a dirty kind of war. We’re in the shiznit. sorry.
Gee you think RW Pete is still listening?
good late morning … had a doctor’s appt
it was sooooooooooooo nice to be able to listen to steph in my car on the way home
#176 Welcome back, TJ! You’re comment, though delayed, is excellent.
176 yes you’re right. We can’t act like Saddam did. Not
and still be any better than he was. BTW he was prolly
our asset for years and years. Another example of a Bush
Family business associate, just like Osamo, Norriega,
Hitler, The Genoveses etc etc etc… funny how they all
get double crossed.
yup she’s keeping her crown
176 Yes, only a tool would say that torture is okay because we were the ones doing it. Why can’t people like that see that behaving like sadaam makes us no better than him?
That was HUUUUUGE!
“and she will go down” — oh dear.
That was a HUUUUUGE load.
The Donald realizes the importance of ROI (Return On Investment).
So, she can keep her crown on!
There’s a Scottish (and Irish) tune/song about tilting your beaver-felt tricorn jauntily.
The title is: “Cock Up Your Beaver”.
OK, enough with the beaver stuff. Good morning, bloggers.
thanks shaf
LOL from twitter
Shuster1600 Prejean, who got cosmetic surgery before the pageant, just spoke of “how women can make a difference in the world.” Absolutely revolting.
Davy Crockett wore a beaver hat but it was called a coonskin cap because of the gay inuendos.
191 awesome Peter! what did I miss beaver stuff?
I sent Steph a beaver stack thing yesterday,
Gourmet Beaver food for dogs, with the suggestion
she let Oliver have some…
and Producer Chris on twitter
radioguychris Miss CA has been stripped, but she can leave her crown on. Grr.
Thanks, ProducerChris!
chris, you are awesome!

Palin/Prejean ’12
okay gays you’ve got okay from Prejeans DO NOT BE SILENT
Sadly, in a city of approx 3 million people, we had less than a thousand people in our last peace march.
#199 Of course, we Live Bloggers (namely, me at #51) mentioned it first.
204. Bonza, Shaf. You da man in da heezy!
#204 – it was a great idea! and it was heard FIRST on the SMS!!! YAY!
twitter is kinda going nuts with Prejean
pandagon: Prejean’s lesson to the nation: with a symmetrical face and fake boobs, you too can sort of win a fight with a blogger.
anamariecox: Carrie: “Take this story of mine and apply it to your own lives.” Does this mean I need bigger boobs?
anamariecox: RT @pourmecoffee: BREAKING. Donald Trump downgrades Prejean Boobs investment to “Hold.”
plutoniumpage: RT @Roland_Hedley:At issue: Moral difference between semi-nude posing for sleazy photographer and semi-nude posing for tacky judges.
jaketapper: Trump saying Prejean+POTUS have same position on gay marriage=exactly what gay activists complain about:POTUS gives cover 2 prejeans ofworld
I’d like to see a Friars Roast with Lisa Lampinelli go after Limbaugh and his ilk. Oh, Cheesus, make it happen!
Shaf, Props to you on #51!
pandagon: Trump says that Miss CA’s answer was the same as Obama’s. I don’t remember Obama talking to Rick Warren about opposite marriage.
chadisrael: This CNN press conference with Donald Trump is a joke…Miss California is an embarrassment!!!
cdmarine Miss California violated her contract several times over. Not just photos, but the commercial she made for a political advocacy org.
oh thanks idiot caller, just walk in here and defend
this twit beauty queen homophobe moron
The Donald is afraid of the right wing shredding machine. He may not have to bow to Limbaugh now but by leaving a tool of the religious right as Ms. California he will be dealing with this on a daily basis because the evangelical puppet masters are going to keep her talking and the media is going to continue looking into her past. The cycle goes on….
the SMS show childish?! ha hah bwaahh hah hah
love me some pepsi….mmmmmmmmm….love them more for being tolerant for everyone’s civil rights!
The Stephanie Miller show is the most entertaining talk show in radio.
I don’t give a rat’s behind about beauty pagents and the people who run in them. I doubt that I would agree with any of them on any issue. Who do you think runs in these things? Conservatives of course. It’s a throw back to the 1950′s.
But come on, guys, everyone keeps running her down, and it just makes liberals sound mean. I say this a way left of center liberal. I think it would be better to ignore her. I mean who really cares what she thinks.
Hey, did we all forget it’s A FREE COUNTRY?
Of course she has the right to her opinion, but she’s a kid and she started whining when she didn’t win. It’s a pagent – so unimportant it’s not even funny.
I could use a little less of Dick Cheney’s “love”. Yuck!
Chris is ripping all of us off
radioguychris Miss CA just said that we all must speak up for our convictions. Okay, gays, you heard her! Let her know how you feel about what she said!
Grampy could make millions recording sound bites for insomniacs
LOL!
plutoniumpage: *snicker* RT @Spathiphyllum:News Flash: Miss California new role model for Christian strippers everywhere. Hallelujah and pass the pasties!
I think there is nothing wrong with pagents per se as long as they realize that they are pretty girls being judged on being pretty girls – nothing more. Their opinions, while they have the right to them, are normally those of very young women with little or no real life experience. A spokesperson for regular marriage? What qualifies her for that?
GOP women are out boinking used car dealers and getting fake boobs
holy crap – Shuster just went nuts after the Trump presser – “okay, okay – can I just vomit now… can I just vomit now. Isn’t this exactly what’s wrong with our superficial media?”
You go David!

madabip @anamariecox On Prejean’s “silence”: she’s a recent graduate of the Palin School of Communications — @ the beauty pageant satellite campus
#223, they’re not even the prettiest girls. They’re the prettiest girls who are interested in devoting their lives to a contest to show how pretty they are.
Lots of far prettier girls have no use for that nonsense.
227 Sure and it’s cultural as well. Pagents are big in the south from the time they are babies! I worry that they’re telling those girls that their worth lies in their beauty when they could possibly have so much more to offer the world!
Does this Trump decision mean that conservatives are ok with provacative photo’s of young ladies? Does the fired cheerleader coach get her job back?
On Fake Boobs: Storebought is OK, but there’s nothing beats Home Made.
“side boob”
#227 Indeed. I’ve always thought that beauty pagent girls are inherently creepy in some way (however attractive they might be).
Why isn’t Cheney’s lawyer telling him to STFU?
Producer Chris is being mean to Steph again, reminding
her how homely she used to be… widow’s hump, deformed toes,
gray fangs, frizzy ‘doo… now I’m doing it.
Steph is a Goddess of Wit and Beauty now so all is forgotten,
hopefully. She don’t sound Too scarred from the horrible
adolescence… much
233 I don’t think dick vader listens to anyone. After all, he does have that neck grip thing. LOL
This was a HUGE, HUGE mistake for Trump. The media wolves are going to be on the trail now and like it or not they are doing their job. I also wonder how long it will be before she is on fox being fed easy, leading defense style questions by greta?
he is the Tan Man
227 232 You are correct, something wrong with Pagent Girls.
Low self esteem, being whored out to creepy Systems
of exploitation… the worst is Child Beauty Queens, JonBenet…
234 Steph is gorgeous! But more importantly, she’s smart and adds something of real value to the world = entertainment and information!

markosm Carry Prejean needs to hook up with Joe the Plumber. That would be AWESOME.
The McCain Palin crew had people screaming Obama was a terrorist during the campaign on live tv, so the right needs to put their eyes back in their heads and move along to the next subject.
