Re: Hate Crimes

The easiest way to understand is this: If a punk throws a rock through a window of your house, that's vandalism- pretty minor too, I doubt the police would even send someone out. Now, what if you're black, and the rock says, "DIE, NIGGER, DIE!"

Don't you think that maybe, just maybe, THAT SHOULD be considered a more serious crime?

I'd read it if weren't from the POV of people who should know better.

show me a real scientific site about marriage/cheating, not a talk show where they dramatise and hype the issues, then maybe we'll talk.

If you don't want to be a victim of a robbery, don't carry money. If you're black and don't want to be a victim of a race based hate crime, what can you do, peel yourself?
If I embezzle from my company to buy a house, I'm going to jail. If instead I had sent every embezzled penny to an orphanage in Afghanistan, my lawyer could convince the jury to give me a shorter sentence. Sometimes the motivation for the crime matters.

It took awhile, but the RW-Christians finally noticed that even when they had the White House, the SCOTUS and both houses of Congress that their darling little Repugs STILL failed to push their dream agenda. And this realization that even their best friends in government wouldn't stand up for them has finally broken the spirit of the Christian Coalition.

#432, we need an additional category of crime because hate crimes target more than one victim. It is, literally, terrorism.

Additionally, hate crimes often occur in communities where such crimes are tolerated by local law enforcement; so a federal hate crime removes the investigation and prosecution from the local crime-sympathetic officials and federalizes it.

I lived with my wife for over a year before we got married, and we didn't get married because she coerced me. It's worked pretty well, for 26 years now.

But I think it is nearly impossible to make any assumptions about marriage. It's too complicated, and life outside the marriage (e.g. at work) is also too complicated. Unexpected things happen.

#430 Is her husband abusive to the son? Does he abuse his wife in front of his son? If so, she should leave, because staying in an abusive situation is giving her son the wrong idea. If this boy grows up watching his father treat his mother like crap (emotional abuse), he's not going to be very nice to his partner when he grows up.
I think stopping abuse is much more important than deciding whether or not to cheat.

like I said, honesty could have prevented those failed marriages you speak of. if they were honest with themselves and each other would they have married? no. the men know they want a little on the side. the women know they might not be able to trust their men. it's all on them.

Hate crimes legislation is about terrorism.

A crime is a crime. A hate crime is about creating terror in a class of people by a crime against one.

Hate speech laws are wrong. Hate crime laws are perfectly acceptable.

I'm sure the reason you get married can indicate the chances of your spouse cheating on you.
I believe if you got married because your girlfriend gave you an ulimatum (marry we or we're over), you're more likely to end up on Ashley Madison than the guy who married his best friend because he coudln't imagine living another day without her.
