palloneRep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) calls in at 6:06am Pacific to talk about President Obama’s news conference last night, and about the swine flu epidemic.

shusterDavid Shuster, MSNBC’s dayside anchor, calls in at 7:30am Pacific to talk about the swine flu epidemic, and about President Obama’s news conference last night.

palmieriJennifer Palmieri, Senior Vice President of Communications for the Center for American Progress, calls in at 8:06am Pacific to talk about Obama’s news conference last night.

President Obama used a prime-time news conference last night to reassure Americans that the country was on the right track. “We’re off to a good start, but it is just a start,” Obama said. “I am proud of what we have achieved, but I am not content. I am pleased with our progress, but I am not satisfied.”

• President Obama said yesterday that he’s under no illusions that he’ll have a “rubber-stamp Senate” now that Sen. Arlen Specter has switched parties to join the Dems. As if to prove the presidents point, Specter voted against Obama’s budget plan shortly after his news conference with the president.

The World Health Organization has raised the swine flu pandemic level to 5, its second highest level. Switzerland and Peru confirmed two new cases overnight and in the U.S. a small cluster appears to be emerging in Washington State.

Bye eMooks.

Terri,

I was aware that "controlled drowning" goes back to the middle ages.

If McCain had won the election, do you think we'd be debating whether The Rack is torture or just "enhanced interrogation."?

Cindy,

That's one thing we like about the Portland library system. There are neighborhood branches spaced conveniently throughout the city.

And we can drop off books from any branch at any other branch.

344 I just read a book about the Spanish Inquisition and was shocked to see water torture was used then. They didn't call it "water boarding", but the description of the technique is identical to what we now are calling "water boarding". It doesn't "simulate" drowning, as righties like to say, it IS drowning - controlled and just short of death.
"

I am NOT a conspiracy person but there there may be some science to the theory that the flu mutated because of the gigantic pig factory in La Gloria Mexico.

Ah good day to ya'll. Always great to have you there.
Even if you ignored the Canine Caviar Gourmet Beaver.
But then maybe that deserved the howling silence it received.
Try to avoid getting the swine flu.

Bye all! Congrats, Cindy. You rawk!

Ron thank you :-)

I do use the library .. but sparingly because I have a great problem getting books back, much less getting them back on time

it's cheaper for me just to buy them ;-)

Gotta run folks! Buh-bye!!

Arlen Specter is actually Returning to the
Dem party. He was a Dem up til '66.

337 Whether waterboarding is torture is NOT debatable. It is and has been since the Spanish Inquesition. Olbermann did a long list of all the times people have been prosecuted for it including a Sheriff in Texas in the 80s. Someone needs to be held accountable for ignoring the law to torture people in our name...or we are just as guilty.

I think specter voted no for show .. see I said I'd be independent ... and he'll be obama's bitch hereafter

Congressman Sestak on Specter: Will He Vote Like a Democrat?

When they say Swine Flu I think Limbaugh

Cindy,

Yes, you, personally!

Seriously, I think you have the best library system in the nation.

Here in Portland they claim they have the best library system but I did some research and it seems like we are #2 to Boston.

Do you use the public library?

How about getting hit by pig droppings from flying pigs? Huh?

oh gawd the pork industry is really gonna hate this

For about 90 seconds I was trapped underwater in the Tule river and thought I was going to drown.

That was in the 1980s and I still the chills thinking about it.

So, nobody can tell me that waterboarding doesn't leaving a lasting psychological damage.

Ron? Me personally ... or the city of Boston?

Heya SMS Bloggoes :D
This is just a drive-by post: Hiya, By-ya...
Cheers,
mfaye

327 O'Course Deetown is Deetroit!
Yes, Boston. I love Boston. How many colleges and
universities? How many lissome co-eds? How many
cool dive bars? Ah to be in love in beantown in the spring.

If Obama says torture was used, it simply MUST be investigated and prosecuted.

There are no other moral options.

Arlen's future will depend on how he votes. If he obstructs, Joe Sestak (sp) may run against him.

324 LOL Ron that reminds me of John Stewart doing a
thing about 'work the base, tickle the balls'... something like that

#316 During BushCo's reign of terror, his core support dwindled down to 28%. This group, often referred to as the 28-percenters, has apparently broken down even more under Obama. I am amazed at how quickly the Repugs have imploded.

Mark drunkent biker,

Is Deetown, Detroit?

From what I understand, Cindy in Boston probably has the best library system of all

We are proud of our library here in Portland, OR, but I think we come in #2 to Boston, for usage.

Terri not sure

>> Mark drunken biker old paratrooper
>> Even if Arlen Specter is kindy tool-y I still
welcome him to the ranks of the Dems.

Me too.

Remember, his "base" has changed and many of his irritating votes in the past was to appease nutcase righties.

316 We should be a big tent including everyone from Specter to Sanders. It's def better than the far-right attitudes!

319 Yes Ron, the liberrys around here seem to got very nice
DVD collections too. Sometimes better than netflix for the
kind of stuff I enjoy.

317 did it just pass this a.m.?

Time to get Olympia Snowe and Esmeralda in da house!

Thanks to "socialism" here in Oregon, we really don't need Netflix.

Our public library has a gigantic DVD collection -- not quite as extensive as Netflix's but darn-near.

ok according to this the number of repugs is 21%.

Even if Arlen Specter is kindy tool-y I still
welcome him to the ranks of the Dems. And I hope
others will follow suite. Is it true only 21% of
people will now call themselves Repugs?

309 I don't think I've ever met a liberal white evangelical Christian before! LOL I guess we are a big tent! Nice having you with us!

I have to put Slingblade in my Netflex que. That was such a great movie.

2 Spartas in a row. Good job Cindy!

Hey Jim, how about a Snarlin Arlen - Slingblade off?

Good link, too. Congrats on Sparta #2

thank you all ;-)

MEL7190,

I never hide that I'm a liberal when I'm chatting on-line.

But I'm also an Evangelical White Christian and I can talk with those righties since I live with them, if they let me!

Cindy, the accidental Spartan!! Congrats.

Yes, why single out people being attacked for just being themselves when we can...do nothing!

missed it by that much
congrats Cindy!
