#478 Tim, I’m sure ProducerChris will correct me, but it seemed that RightWingWorld kinda melted away like the last of snow, maybe because they were playing so many rightwing clips during the rest of the show anyway, or maybe they thought it was too much emphasis, or maybe people who only got that first hour were reeling from the side effects. Toward the end Jim was almost phoning in the intros doing characters that he normally loves, so maybe it was just too dispiriting in general. The repeated bits I think reflect a similar trend–fewer but funnier. Maybe it’s Jim’s schedule, which would undoubtedly kill a lesser soul.

I still would like this question answered…this is the first time in months I’ve been able to live-blog so all I’m getting from the show is what I hear in the Stephcast…what happened to Right Wing World? How come Jim’s bits on the 3rd hour are a repeat of the 1st hour?

Here in Portland, we have invested heavily in mass transit and bike paths.

When gas went up to $5 a gallon, we had options.

Most anti-mass transit towns were screwed.

I’m also torn on this subject. The moral answer is clear: torture should be prosecuted. The problem is, if Obama turns around and prosecutes the Bushies for all the laws they broke, the precedent might be that each administration ties up the former administration in criminal proceedings, perhaps over trivial things or ginned-up charges (extramarital sex in the Oval office?), tying up resources instead of running the government. The chilling effect on anyone willing to hold a government position would itself be a problem.

I hope Obama is playing chess and the release of these documents leads to a groundswell of national disgust (and perhaps a popular will to prosecute THESE guys) and/or international disgust and prosecution for violation of international laws that at least punishes these bad guys by limiting their freedom to travel–could be symbolic, could be more substantial. Dunno.
