The Liberty Sun, a U.S.-flagged cargo ship bound for Kenya, was attacked last night by Somali pirates. The pirates fired rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons at the ship, which sustained damage, but they never made it onto the ship and the vessel is now being escorted by a coalition ship, still bound for Kenya.

A nationwide “tea party” protest is scheduled in 500 cities for today, Tax Day, in the United States. The protesters’ goal is to pressure Congress and states to reject government spending as a way out of the recession and build an anti-spending coalition around taxpayers.

OMG, Shaf! Well-played.

The biggest problem with taxes is that "non paycheck" earners can cheat the system so easily.

TTFN, bloggers, I love and respect you all, even you that I disagree with a little. I really like the breadth of the people here, you are all sharp and interestng, with a great sense of humor, common sense, and varied interests.

Don't you ever change; have a great day, and hasta manana, gentes!

Ivan,

I hadn't heard that quote about Franken. Funny! I'll have to think about it, though. I love Franken for that.

mel7190,

Yeah, they still deny that they sided with Al Qaeda but you can catch them in it, because they STILL will tell you that Clinton bombed an aspirin factory.

Then you say, "But American intelligence said it was a weapons factory. Al Qaeda said it was an aspirin factory. Whose side are you on?"

They fall for this one.

Bye y'all. Ta-ta, tea-tea, slurp.

that's a wrap?!

see (read/hear) yas tomorree.

Scott, Al Franken had a good point about how the Democrats love their country like a parent cares about a teenager, while Republicans love their country like a little girl loves her mommy..

Great show, everybody!

Have a awesome day. :)

Feh, only honest-to-god sharp cheddar will do on my grilled cheese.

I need a bigger stock pot; I made cheese once a couple years ago, white cheddar aged 6 months, it was easy (though my pot was barely big enough), and it was SOOOO GOOOOOD.

480 I've been listening for that point on radio and tv and haven't heard it brought up yet. Of course, right-wingers won't bring it up because they don't remember anything Fox didn't say yesterday...

i sure dont need a gun. you cant drive 5 blocks here where i live without seeing some young highball cop goosing his ford. honestly, Minnesota is already damn near a police state. i bet if i dial 911, there at my house in like seconds, instead of minutes

#478, cue the Kelsey Grammer "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" spot.

Preferably redone with Jim's voice, since he does a MUCH better Kelsey Grammer than whoever did that one.

I have a rescue dog. I rescued it from the evil pet shop!

Grilled Velveeta with Cheetos sandwiches. Get the smooth and the crunchy fake cheese goodness.

I see Bo poop on Ebay any minute now

I was an Obama supporter, and I despised Bush. However, I will call anyone out on doing the wrong thing...I don't care who they are. The constitution is paramount to me.

mel7190,

Good point! I had forgotten that the conservatives were DEADSET against us being involved in Somalia.

I also like to remind my conservative friends that they sided with Al Qaeda when Clinton bombed them.

They did, they really did! You can Google it.

US intellegence said it was a weapons factory. Al Qaelda said it was an aspirin factory. The conservatives sided with Al Qaeda.

My mom used to make grilled cheese sandwiches with Velveeta. It. Was. Awesome!

i bet he CUT the cheese! Oh snap!

471 I agree. I know we have big problems, but I think a Prez pissing on the Constitution is a big problem, too.

licked the cheese, lol

#473, when it comes to what his DoJ argues in court, the buck stops with Obama.

I can't help but politely smile and applaud at the teabaggers like a proud parent cheering for their 4-year old in the school play... They try so very hard...

They don't understand what they're doing, but they try...

#438: I'm pinning it on him because he is making the argument in court papers that the people held there have no habeas rights, exactly as Bush did with Gitmo. Obama's justice department made that argument last Friday. I know Obama didn't create it, but adopting Bush's argument is just as bad when he simply could have not argued that.

#463, I think that the trend is irreversible. I think what will happen is that the Dem party will split into a corporatist and populist wing within the next decade, and the Republican party will become spoilers like the Greens do for the Dems.

I have a major problem with Obama and not going after the war criminals in the Bush Administration. He seems to be sweeping this under the rug; I suspect there are many people on both sides of the aisle in Congress and the Senate, as well as the CIA who don't want the status quo (ignore it) disturbed.

The other major problem I have is not putting some regs on the credit card companies, who are gouging like hell right now.

Obama is doing a great job on many fronts, but not these two issues.

Bye Sarah. Happy huff-a-lump day!

Can't we blame the GOP for the pirate problems since they were so against the mission in Somalia and kept attacking the Prez during that war like the unAmerican a-holes they are....

I have roots in MN and, I have to say, Franken isn't a perfect fit, either.

Remember Minnesotans also gives us some of the least-serious, most crazy candidates ever.

The Bush people watched Fox because they wanted to make sure they got the memo and they didn't care about other opinions.

shāf, you rock.
Got to go everybody. Have a great one.

457. Agreed. Plus he really wants to serve the people of Minnesota, not further himself.

#455 I caught up on the LB after my meetings. Thanks, for the kind comments.

Yes, our team received its genre (sci-fi) on Friday (8/14/08) at 7:00 PM and had until Sunday at 7:00 PM to write, shoot, edit, score and package the DVD for presentation. It was challenging and very fun!

>> 451–I hope Obama delivers more blows to the Republicans. I sense they won’t go away quietly.

Me too. These conservative need to be laughed at stripped of their media legitimacy.

Barak might be the right guy to do that.

Ironically, we liberals also need to give credibility to a MATURE AND THOUGHTFUL conservative movement. Barak is the guy for that, too.

#458, ask a cop if preventing a crime is his job.

Yes, they will investigate suspicious behavior when they see it, but reality is reality: police don't because they can't. At best, their presence acts as a deterant.

Haven't heard this bump in a WHILE

#450, yes, but brandishing while willing to use is frequently effective in getting someone to back off. The pumping action of a shotgun is a particularly distinct aural warning.

The claim "you're at more risk in the house with a gun than without" is ultimately bogus, because it ignores the unquantifiable number of times a firearm is present, but not discharged, in a confrontation with a criminal or intruder.

I can't wait to see/hear the interviews with the teabaggers today when asked exactly "why" they're there. Either we'll hear repeated talking points quoted verbatim from Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. or we'll see a lot of vacant stares or gross examples of racism.

"protect and serve" seems to imply some responsibility to prevent crime.

Did you hear Franken's radio show? I was really impressed with Franken -- he is smart, fair and insightful.

But, he doesn't wear it on his sleeve like Thom Hartmann -- so I think lots of people missed-it.

Personally, I love Al Franken. He's smart, funny, witty and clearly more people in Minnesota agree!

shaf - Did you see my comments yesterday for Aidan 5? Showed it to hubby last night. He also thought it was well done. The whole thing, start to finish, was done in 48 hours?

451--I hope Obama delivers more blows to the Republicans. I sense they won't go away quietly.

#448, furthermore, it's not the police's job to prevent crimes; but rather to investigate them and restore order once they've occurred.

I gotta go folks. I'll see ya'll later.
