CNN’s Paul Begala calls in at 8:30am to talk about President Obama’s signing of the stimulus bill today, and about all other things in the political world.

President Barack Obama is traveling to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science today to sign into law the most sweeping economic package in decades, a rescue plan meant to reinvigorate job creation, consumer spending, and public optimism. The setting is meant to underscore the investments the new law will make in “green” energy-related jobs.

Government officials are preparing to review “viability plans” due to be submitted today by the ailing American automakers. Since December, GM and Chrysler have received billions of dollars in loans from the federal government, and they both were required to submit the plans to receive billions more. Without government aid, both companies are at risk for bankruptcy.

President Obama will focus on home foreclosures this week as part of the effort to shore up the economy. Details of the new plan, due tomorrow, will come just days after Congress passed the stimulus bill aimed at creating jobs.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made her strongest comments yet about North Korea this morning during her tour of Asia. She warned that a possible North Korean missile launch “would be very unhelpful in moving our relationship forward.” She also said the U.S. is “watching very closely” actions by North Korea.

Interesting; the best Rollerball team was in Houston as well. Hmmmmmmm.....

The time has flown by. I must go do productive stuff now. Take care and be well.

Thanks, Cindy! :D

Hey, all -- It's been awesome bloggin' with you today. Are we gonna do it again tamari!

Hope so!

Buh Bye, Bloggoes!

442---my daughter the English major can speak and understand Old English.

LOL, what country can she use that in?

Mike no what .. I haven't been on that email address

Regarding the guy comparing Bush's firing of the US Attorneys with Clinton's, every U.S. Attorney submits a letter of resignation at the beginning of the new President's term. The President has the option to accept or decline the resignation. It has nothing to do with "cuase" or lack of cause.

Goodling's witch hunt was a completely different animal.

Ooops, we did it again. We've zoomed thru another show. Bye everyone. Maybe we'll meet in the chat room for a while.

Inadequate Blackmail aka Sexual Jihadist - we do it in three month sections .. which is only $100 and some for three months

Well, that should wrap it up here. We'll see you tomorrow (or, on other boards as the case may be).

Oh, Cindy? I trust you got my note from the Progressive Radio group.

BTW, the Dow is now down 275. Could be a wild afternoon.

444---well good for Bristol for teaching her parents and her pastors some truth about teenage hormones. Abstinence is a good goal, but these kids need back-up plans too.

Rosetta Stone is very expensive, at least as far as what I was interested in getting

#437 The BushCo kleptocrats have several power centers, but the worst of the worst pillagers seem to live in Houston.

Xe-nu? I smell scientolgy conspiracy here.

421. scooter says: Stanford Financial, a Houston investment group, has been swarmed by U.S. Marshals this AM. Seems billions of dollars that the firm claimed were held offshore in an Antigua bank aren't there!!!

Rut-roh!

#439 - shhh! that's a "Xe"-cret...

Xe. Okay. Are those section 8s still in New Orleans?

436 -- the two languages I most want to learn are Lakota and Irish Gaelic. Does Rosettastone do those?

On Bushes rating in presidents. Give it time it takes a while to sink all the way down and settle.

436---yes, I've seen Rosetta Stone used in Special Ed. classes to help autistic kids learn to speak and communicate better. It's quite miraculous when you see the autistic kids interact with it when they will barely interact with their teachers.

"Xe. We're not the ones who 'accidentally' killed Iraqi civilians... totally wasn't us!"

he's in his second year of the school .. and I know it's tough .. and yes he's in the beginning Spanish classes

433---oh, and the financial firm is in Dubya's home state. How unusual!

kar - if you have the money get Rosettastone .. it is great ... it helped me learn hindi/urdu when nothing else had

Cindy,

Yeah, 13 can be tough. It's gotta be rough to be in a new school and have the hormones kick in.

Does his school understand that he is not at the same place as the other students?

Ouch, ProducerChris. I like Paul Begala as much as anyone (including you guys). I just thought the build up was a bit much.

#428 Kar: I've been watching it unfold on TV. A link to the estimated $8 billion fraud is now up at the NYTimes:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/18/business/18stanf...

429---I was going to say something along those lines. Truly, I feel like too many students in America haven't even mastered English and American History. Now we're going to demand that they learn a 2nd language too?

Like I said, school reform is needed on many levels. Educators talk and write about it all the time, but it doesn't happen.

Then you'll meet the parents who also want an hour a day devoted to the arts in public schools. I'm all for that! But who will lengthen the school day and buy the musical instruments and the ceramics kiln?

Fernando Lamas had a great sense of humor about himself. I used to have an old off-the-record tape of him making a coffee commercial (Taster's Choice, I think). He was dressed elegantly and sitting, holding a coffee cup. After he said his line, he took a sip, his eyes widened and he blurted/spit-taked: "That's so f**king hot!"

So unexpected and funny (crew broke up and he laughed too).

#418 well except down in the deep south where they alsmost speak one language. -just joking.

421----do you have a link?

kar - my husband's company is now owned by Royal Philips from the Netherlands .. they have had people fly in from the company head quarters .. .they are speaking Dutch to each other, English to their IT counter parts here and then the had to the company cafeteria and speak Spanish to the person behind the counter ...

this is a standard in Europe and to many other parts of the world

My sister-in-law speaks 4 languages

412 & 424 -- Foreign languages have them filthy foreign ideas, y'know!

414---oh dear. Not a nice thing to do.

412 right on Cindy!

Only in America can someone not only be ignorant (like know only one language) and actually Proud of it.

420 -- that's fine, as long as you're brilliant here, too (happens a lot!)

412---I understand. I too am thinking about getting language tapes for my car because it will give me an edge in the job market.

However, there are good times in a kid's life to introduce new complex skills, and not so good times. This is all because of brain development and hormones. 13 is a tough age to learn to master any new, complex subject. This is a generality---certainly some 13-year-olds are ready to learn calculus, but your average 13-year-old is like a hamster on a wheel.

I don't mean to sound critical. I really don't mean that at all. You are there with your son and you know what he's capable of.

Also, out here in CA, I think we don't offer enough challenging educational choices to our students. I wish our schools were more like the East Coast schools in many ways.

Stanford Financial, a Houston investment group, has been swarmed by U.S. Marshals this AM. Seems billions of dollars that the firm claimed were held offshore in an Antigua bank aren't there!!! Ah, Ken Lay would be proud!!

Sorry; I was off being brilliant. :)
