XM Satellite Radio is now carrying all three hours of The Stephanie Miller Show live from 9am to Noon Eastern!!!  Now, even if your city or town doesn’t have a Steph affiliate, you can hear her wherever you go.  Be sure to check it out on America Left XM167!

Bark Park Song can be downloaded here!

Frances Callier & Angela V. Shelton (Frangela) join us in studio at 7:30am Pacific for another edition of Fridays With Frangela!!!

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) calls in at 8:30am Pacific to tell us about the progress being made in passing President Obama’s economic stimulus plan.

The Senate plans to vote on the $789 billion compromise stimulus late tonight after an all-day debate, Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday from the chamber floor. The House, which had planned to vote on the package yesterday, delayed it until today after many rank-and-file Dems who were unhappy with some spending cuts demanded time to read the compromise measure.

Republican Sen. Judd Gregg withdrew his nomination as President Barack Obama’s commerce secretary yesterday, citing “irresolvable conflicts” over the administration’s stimulus bill and the upcoming 2010 census. He’s the second nominee to withdraw from consideration for the post after Bill Richardson withdrew in January.

The Senate last night confirmed Leon Panetta as CIA director by unanimous consent. Panetta, who served as President Clinton’s chief of staff, now becomes the oldest person to head the spy agency at 70.

A Continental Airlines plane crashed into a home near Buffalo, NY late last night, killing 44 passengers and 4 crew members. One person in the home was also killed.

    Good morning!

    Scary Friday the 13th!

  2. Morning capt

Morning all you livebloggers. Goood morning Steph & the Mooks and Frangela!

    Is that about it?

Yes, Happy Friday the 13th. I was born on Saturday the 14th, but I feel like it had to still be the 13th somewhere. My aunt & uncle were getting married the same day and lightning struck the church just as the service was starting. Halfway through the ceremony someone came running up the aisle shouting “It’s a boy!”. Or at least that’s what I’m told, I was too young to remember. ;)

  3. capt says:

and lightning struck the church just as the service was starting

  4. shāf says:

Yep, it’s Friday the 13th. Time for the obligatory release of some more slasher/zombie/honor flicks. *yawn* Wake me in time for Dollhouse and Battlestar Galactica tonight.

Good morning, Blog Warriors! Good morning, Team Steph!

I don’t know if y’alls saw President Obama’s speech at the Lincoln Banquet last night. It made me feel proud to be an American. In case you missed it, here’s MSNBC’s coverage:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#29170751

  5. capt says:

    Morning Shaf!

No kiddin about the speech – another good one.

  6. Charlie in St. Paul says:

    Happy VD everyone!

Anyone notice that Susan Collins sounds like Katherine Hepburn? I think one of the provisions she slipped into the Jobs Bill was to give her the Aquitaine.

  7. flombaye says:

on the 2k9-2-12 personcast of the glenn bolshebeck show, glenn bolshebeck and frank luntz conducted a public mini circle-jerk that left them both grinning. they played various commercials for the employee free rights act, book-ending the airings (if that’s a fair metaphor regarding spokestwats who dont read) with commentary saying this is scary stuff. – one even threw in that it’s divisive. as luntz so eloquently put it, with all the insight and dignity of a front row lemming, “we’re all in this together! we all succeed together, or we all fail together!”. – in other words, bolshevism doesnt change much. that’s a predictable attribute in a behavior whose practitioners are not practicing evolutionists. – i’m thankful every day, for the accident of being born into a century and geographic cul-de-sac that has given free enterprise a chance. i do not and shall not wed my investments to the stock values of those employers who are determined to fail. thank you, spokestwats luntz and bolshebeck, but i’ll continue to take my chances with success.
let’s have a big strapping harrison bergeron sized round of applause for these tried and untrue miscreants. good moanin, friday 13 passengers.

  9. capt says:

    Good morning Charlie and Flombaye!

Another GREAT day in the making

  10. Carol, hopemonger in central MA says:

    good morning, stephanistas!

Boy, that plane crash near Buffalo chills me. I heard the news around 2 am, which made it worse. My son is home safe, but sometimes he’s on a similar flight to Buffalo.

A 9/11 widow was on the flight.

  11. capt says:

    Good morning Carol!

So sad with such a loss of life – especially after the plane crashed in the Hudson without any loss of life.

    :(

  12. capt says:

Ironically, the president’s bipartisan overtures could in the years to come eventuate an intensifying partisanship. I can easily envision near-future Dems campaigning for high office, avowing that they have little good to say about crossing-the-aisle attempts. Just remember all the heartburn President Obama suffered when he tried that routine, they’ll say, and they’ll further promise not to make the same mistake.

    http://buzzflash.com/articles/carpenter/311

  13. shāf says:

#12 I see both the lack of bi-partisanship and Gregg’s unwillingness to “play for the other team” as seeds of the Republican Party’s own destruction.

The more they become shrill and strident, the more star systems districts will slip through their fingers.

  14. capt says:

    #13,

    *fingers crossed*

I have been more anti-GOP than partisan Dem for – well at least 20 years.

  15. shāf says:

BTW, in addition to the lack of diversity in radio station ownership, the FCC and Congress need to address the dominance of the cellular spectrum by just a few companies.

Verizon Wireless’ merger with Alltel will force Verizon to divest some assets in overlapping markets. Guess who is buying them up? AT&T!

Here’s a good column at pcmag.com about the whole deal:

I haven’t even considered voting for a Rethug Presidential candidate since Nixon. And it looks like that streak may continue for the rest of my life.

    (kiddin)

  20. shāf says:

#19 There you go spreading that scurrilous rumor, capt! ;)

  21. capt says:

    #15,

Time to break up these mergers – like the old Standard Oil – too big to be healthy for the consumers.

  22. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

It’s Friday the 13th ya’ bastids!

And Randi Rhodes is still off the air because the suits at Nazi M Radio want to censor the content of her show.

  23. capt says:

    Censorship SUX!

I like to listen to RR (not as much as Mama but) and she can be a bit much but she should be on the airwaves as a service to the public interests.

  24. Only 8:40 and I’m already falling asleep. Ugh. And I’m working Saturday & Sunday too. 1st shot of coffee didn’t help. Looks like I need to try another caffeine delivery method.

Though it doesn’t help that it’s nice and dark in here and my test subject is behaving itself.

  25. capt says:

    Hey Paul,

    WAKE UP!

    *passes hot espresso*

  26. 25

    Thanks capt.

But you gotta be careful when you scare me like that.

Coulda spilt the espresso in my lap

    Oh Oh OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  27. capt says:

Joliet JackHammers offer former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich a job on their baseball team

    {snip}

The team would celebrate Blagojevich night by giving fans bobblehair dolls (the hairstyle bobbles instead of the head). The club also plans to sell special “golden” seats, an obvious wink to the infamous wiretaps in which he allegedly calls President Barack Obama’s former U.S. Senate seat “[expletive] golden.”

    *****

    I knew Blago’s hair would live on – you can’t kill a real hair-monster.

  29. demdame says:

Good morning all. Feeling a bit under the weather, so I may just mostly read the blog and listen to the show.

Speaking of listening, I’m unable to connect to KTLK this morning. Anyone here have better luck?

  30. shāf says:

Hey, can I be Commerce Secretary? Seems like were having some problems finding somebody to fill the seat.

  31. shāf says:

#29 I’m connected to KTLK stream. But, I always use Internet Explorer for the stream.

  32. demdame says:

#4 shaf – We’re also going to watch Dollhouse tonight. Did you catch NPR’s Freshair interview with Joss Whedon yesterday?

  33. shāf says:

#32 No, I play it from the archives this afternoon, though.

    Thanks for the tip!

  34. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Morning bloggies! XOXOX

  35. shāf says:

    It’s Miller Time!

  36. Think you had a bad day? Some guy got hit by a car and dragged 17 miles.

  37. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Good Morning Steph and the Mooks!!!

  38. capt says:

    NPR’s Freshair interview

Fres-hair? Is that another Blago joke?

    (kiddin’)

  39. shāf says:

At least Rep. Hoyer showed up. Ms. Huffington was a no-show.

  40. 32 – I listened to part of it. I’m not a yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge Joss Whedon fan, but I’ll probably DVR the show and check it out this weekend.

  41. shāf says:

#36 Poor little guy. He kept up for at least a mile and a half!

    (too soon?)

  42. I prefer to refer to the holiday as “Singles Awareness Day”.

  43. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Steph should skip “He’s Just Not That Into You” and go see the characters from that movie get butchered like hogs by Jason in the new “Friday the 13th” movie.

  44. Mama could be the spokesperson for SAD.

  45. straydogma says:

    good morning all

  46. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Gregg dropped out because he woke up yesterday morning, and found the severed head of a male prostitute in the bed next to him.

  47. straydogma says:

With Yahoo knowing if searcher are male of female.. We need to keep in mind that Yahoo is one of the internet search engines that volunteered to turn info over to the government during the Bush administration.

  49. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Nice Shane-O, as always :)

  50. straydogma says:

Liberal Hussein Smurf love the new avatar.

  51. #47, so that’s where Jeff Gannon got off to.

Huh huh, I said “got off”.

  52. capt says:

How does one “pose” as a Taco Bell employee?

    Hmmmmmm?

  53. Beavis and Butthead did this episode already.

  54. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Beaver!

  55. capt says:

#47, so that’s where Jeff Gannon got off to.

And I was thinking he just changed his name to Joe the plumber?

    Now I’m confused.

  56. shāf says:

How about some Baked Tostitos, dude?

  57. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Is Jim using a megaphone?

  58. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

    Beaver Burrito anyone?

  59. Chris Hussein says:

Wow! Taco Bell Stack and Beaver Stack, alll rolled into one!

    Mornin’ All!

  60. straydogma says:

#62 is that some kind of trans-gendered food?

  61. Dave Tripper says:

Btw, was looking through the stimulus package details (huhuhuhuh)…and in one draft saw over $4 billion dollars for what i’m assuming is oil companies developing clean fuels. Dontcha think, o I don’t know, that they have sufficient funds to do that on their own? I was furious when I saw that.

  62. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Liberal Hussein Smurf love the new avatar.

    ———————————————————————
Thanx Straydogma. If I had photoshop I would have added a long beard.

  63. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

You got your taco in my beaver!!!

  64. capt says:

I thought is was always a beaver taco?

If it is a burrito one would have to unwrap it to get to the beaver.

  65. I suspect Gregg was “asked” to bow to in an effort to make Obama look bad

  66. goob morink everbuby

  67. Judge Dredd was the wrong pick anyway. He wanted to abolish the very department he was going to run, and is so eager to disenfranchise minorities they had to take the Census out of Commerce.

Obama was naive as hell for nominating him anyway. The whole point was Rahm’s hairbrained scheme to put a Dem in Gregg’s seat, but once Gregg made the nomination of a Repub a precondition to taking the job, there was no raison d’etre for his nomination anymore.

  68. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

#66- Liberal Hussein SMurf, try http://www.paint.net It’s free!

  69. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Gregg dropped out because Ann Coulter threatened to show him whatever’s peeking out from under her skirt.

  70. shāf says:

    Good body, every morning!

  71. capt says:

    #65,

We continue to support the poor little oil companies. They just can’t make it on their own – dontchaknow?

  72. What’s with Steph’s voice on that HIV promo? Sounds like her nads just dropped

  73. Chris Hussein says:

    69–Second that…sounds like a ploy to me….

  74. Beth W says:

Did she mention the Western NY plane crash yet? It was in Clarence Center, which is just a few miles from Buffalo. It’s a lovely small town with lots of antique shops and a huge antique center and flea market nearby. Not a very humorous thing to talk about, but she might mention Cheektowaga, which is always fun to say…

  75. straydogma says:

“You got your taco in my beaver!!!”

    Scissor?
    *skates*

  76. HoneyBearKelly says:

    Good morning.

I think that if some enterprising reporter was interested in digging the Gregg resignation has something to do with Abramoff.

    Just sayin’.

  77. capt says:

Gregg is more confirmation the GOP is lost and trying ANYTHING.

Keystone Kops time in the GOP.

  78. Wash your hands. You don’t know where they’ve been.

  79. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

#78, The crash is awful. A friend of mine is a pilot and I’m pretty sure he knew some of the crew.

  80. PeterW … I heard on the radio this morning people somewhat inferring that Obama is Candide … and that aint good

  81. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Thanx, Laura. I’ll check out paint.net later.

  82. 70

Mornin’ Cindy. Sounds like you still have that cold, eh?

  83. #80, it would explain why he also said he doesn’t plan to run for reelection in 2010.

#84, how so (it’s been ages since I read Candide)?

  84. Not sure I’m comfortable with the term “services kids between 8 and 20″. Sounds like Jacko the Whacko.

  85. Gregg actually actively advocated for a stimulus package of some sort just a few days ago.

The reasons being given now are Kabuki theater.

  86. capt says:

Why is Jacko the Whacko shopping at Walmart?

    Childrens clothes are half off!

    *skates*

  87. The situation cryatalized? Gregg, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate.

  88. Hey check out the front page of Wikipedia today!

  89. Shane-O says:

it would take a 67 vote to change Senate Rule XXII

  90. capt says:

    #92,

    Oh YOU!

  91. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    #91- Flavin!

  92. HoneyBearKelly says:

capt @ #89 thanks for the link but it has to be like Isikoff (who is a turd but that’s what he does) or some other member of The Village that does the reporting.

  93. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

#78, The crash is awful. A friend of mine is a pilot and I’m pretty sure he knew some of the crew.

Sully’s phone is probably ringing off the hook.

  94. capt says:

It has been less than a month and OBVIOUSLY Obama has failed . . .

    Are these people even serious?

  95. scooter says:

Judd Gregg? I bet that’s shorthand for something else.

  96. shāf says:

    Hannity’s brian goes THUD!

  97. Skyhawk says:

Obama was basically punked. This was a set up, pretend to want to be a part of team and then pull the rug out. I respect you O but these are not the same republicans from 40 years ago. You can’t talk to these people. Damn bi-partisanship and do what you need to do.

  98. Yeah Paul, I thought I was getting better when you an I chatted on dailykos .. but it came back with a vengeance

  99. re: the Candide thing

Candide was an eternal optimist. If that’s the reference, I guess I can see it. Candide surrounded himself with morons. If that’s the reference, I don’t see it.

  100. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

#98- I wish Sully would speak mroe. What a true hero.

  101. 59 definitely, Jim. Franken’s up +249 votes now.

I’m mixed on getting rid of the filibuster. It wasn’t widely used until after the New Deal (which is how Roosevelt got things through in the early days, when his majority was slimmer than it was later). It was most notably used to fight civil rights legislation.

And the Dems don’t have the spine to use it, and last time they considered it, the Repubs have threatened to get rid of it.

Maybe make the cloture vote number equal the size of the majority’s caucus. Basically, you have to have complete party unity, or a number of cross-overs equal to the number of defectors.

  102. Good morning! Good morning! Good morning-ga!

Hola amigas y amigos. Que tal?

    Friday the 13th. OMG. OMFG..

  103. demdame says:

    #93 – Yes! Sparta!

  104. PeterW- it’s being perceived as if Obama belief in better angels is like Candide’s best of all possible worlds, and too naive to know that he’s getting played like a fiddle by the republicans

  105. Hiya, Bloggoes!

Change goes thud because Republicans are completely unable to imagine anything but their stupid, wrong policies having any effect or relevance?

Republicans ought to listen to how their whole philosophy is going “thud”.

  106. MY brother in lae was born on Friday the 13 and I love my brother in law .. he is absolutely fantastic

  107. padul says:

    Good Mornin’
2 Paul, Thanx for the early mornin’ blast;-) Like your aunt and uncle, I’m getting married tomorrow, and will be sure to toast your birthday with the bubbly, just because you made me blow my teeth across the room before my first sip of coffee. And, one more thing: Tomorrow mornin’ at 7:25 marks the official astrological beginning of the Age of Aquarius.
WoooooHooooo! Hippies are finally vindicated! 7:25 becomes 4:20 *bubbles bubbler*

  108. #105, I think Obama will learn faster than Candide did. I’m hearing the faint whiff of whoopass in his voice now.

I doubt this is part of a grand master plan bit, as some Obamaniacs are claiming, but I’m glad it’s happening. It’s teaching him the hard lessons about who the other side really are, and it’s doing it nice and early. Learning in the trenches.

And every administration has a little drama with several of its nominees, especially in the early days.

  109. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Why is Jacko the Whacko shopping at Walmart?

    Childrens clothes are half off!

    ———————————————————————
Q: Did you hear about Michael Jackson’s latest song?
A: “Don’t let your son go down on me.”

  110. straydogma says:

#107 maybe the rebs should just dot the same and threaten to get rid of the filibuster too.

  111. humperdink says:

madduane 111- Black holes of suck don’t go thud. They just destroy everything in reach.

  112. DaveTheDemographter says:

If Hannity and his ilk would actually listen to Gregg’s remarks yesterday: Gregg sought the job, Obama didn’t ask him. I agree with #102–O may have been punked here.

  113. It’s not redistricting, it’s reapportionment. The states handle the redistricting.

  114. demdame says:

The Commerce Dept. doesn’t do the redistricting after the Census, the States do it.

  115. Peter – I don’t know about that. He’s whole inference of Abe Lincoln last night to what we face now is nice and has SOME relevance, but Lincoln did not face a party and an ideology of disaster capitalism..

as I said in my blog post yesterday:
(hell, these people will tank/crater/dismember an entire national economy and risk the international economy, thousand and millions of lives just rid the US government of the ability to offer safety nets, provide for education and infrastructure and to make themselves even more obscenely wealthy)

  116. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

    Hannity’s brian goes THUD!

    ———————————————————————
    tic tac’s go THUD?

  117. oh and I should have added risking international INsecurity

  118. You don’t punk Obama very easily. It may seem so, but look how he handles things. I’d bet that Gregg’s exit was really more than HIS idea; behind the scenes, I suspect it was Obama’s idea.

One thing about Obama that is already quite obvious is that he looks at mistakes and owns up to them, and works to correct them.

He’s a cool cat, folks. Thank God, we have a man qualified to be President.

  119. shāf says:

Love the sound FX from Bewitched!

  120. demdame says:

    #120 PeterW – jinx!

  121. #122, the problem was his idolization of “Team of Rivals”. It’s been pointed out by historians that the book’s thesis is not actually supported by history, and that the author conveniently ignores all the times the strategy created massive problems.

  122. capt says:

Who said Hannity had a brain (or brian?)

Silly peeps – brains are for thinking folks!

  123. #127, we’re the DC-metro Process Geek squad of the SMS liveblog.

  124. humperdink says:

Oh dear, Mama’s Hannity Problem… I just pray that they don’t become another Matalin/Carville. Please Mama, resist the fate of Cajun Skeletor!

  125. capt says:

I suspect it was Obama’s idea

I read somewhere that Rahm/Barack asked for Gregg to decline after it was obvious he was lying about supporting the president.

    FWIW

  126. Peter – was.. was???? That sounds like he’s moved past that and I’ve heard nothing to say that he has.

  127. flombaye says:

rush in a burkha and feedbag?

  128. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

  129. shāf says:

#125 I loved Obama’s reference to the Commerce Secretary flack at the top of his Lincoln Banquet speech. The look on his face was “yeah, we got it”.

  130. capt says:

I wonder if Hannity and Blago share the same hairdresser?

Both have quite a fop, eh?

  131. Shane-O says:

    Hairesy?

  133. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/2/13/01321/3538/762/696910

Over all, the effect was to kick the can down the road. And that’s not good enough. So far the Obama administration’s response to the economic crisis is all too reminiscent of Japan in the 1990s: a fiscal expansion large enough to avert the worst, but not enough to kick-start recovery; support for the banking system, but a reluctance to force banks to face up to their losses. It’s early days yet, but we’re falling behind the curve.

  134. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Morning Vince, I mean Shane-O!

  135. ‘mornin’ Capt.

In spite of the obvious – the Republican Party is clearly willing to crater the economy, this country, the planet – all for the further enrichment of the rich.. In spite of that, I think they will fail, and it will mark the end of any relevance of the GOP for a long time.

    They are crapping their nests.

  136. Shane-O says:

    Good morning Laura ;)

  137. #140, let’s remember that FDR’s recovery work happened in multiple stages too. We need to keep the pressure on.

  138. flombaye says:

dont let rush’s position get the boy confused with bin laden; bi laden is dispicable too, but at least wont die a fat stupid virgin.

  139. straydogma says:

I am pretty shure that Rush doesnt need a bomb to make his big ass explode… just saying.

  140. Maybe we should call him “Shane-WOW!”.. ;->

  141. Peter that quote was from Krugman

  142. Do you guys want to hear a joke?

  143. 147 — I doubt RL is a virgin. Well, maybe for sex he didn’t PAY for he’s a virgin…

  144. capt says:

I am pretty shure that Rush doesnt need a bomb to make his big ass explode… just saying.

    Did his anal cyst burst?

    *skates*

  145. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

Please excuse me while I rant.

I’m getting a little tired of the concern trolls at Kos.
Obama hasn’t been in office a month and already there is much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments over there.

Another Obamaism is don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Our new president has accomplished much already.

    they need more examples though

  151. Chris Hussein says:

128–Maybe it is Pres O’s plan to write that chapter by keeping up the pressure on the irrelevent GOP to go bipartisan, and call ‘em out.

  152. #150, and that’s Krugman keeping the pressure on!

156 – as a spokestroll for kos concerntrolls local 187, i must remind you that obama’s frat boy behavior is partly responsible for theobama recession. coleman/palin 2012! it’s a no-brainer.

  158. Excellent Sneaky Provision Inserted Into The Stimulus!

We have Rep. Clyburn to thank for this provision, which was inserted into the final stimulus bill text late last night, as a run-around Sen. Collins. Here’s more on the provision behind the jump and its potential political implications for 2010. . .

. . . Now, what this means is that if the GOP governors want to hold onto all that federal money for longer than 45 days, they’re forced to hand over control of that money to the state legislature, which increases even more pressure on the Republican members of the state legislature to dispense with the funds as allocated under the stimulus bill for state-based aid.

  180. flombaye says:

only rush was smart enuff to complain about obama meadowlarking around with terrorists and spear-fishing at camp david. will rush complain next about niggardly tax cuts for billionaires?

  181. #156, I’m equally annoyed with those who think Obama’s name is Obeyme. We will do no better defering to him, attributing to him a genius secret plan, or “giving him space” than the Republicans did the same for Bush.

Obama has surrounded himself with establishment types. Even if his greatest dream is real change, everyone except Hilda Solis that surrounds him will be whispering against progressive change, and pushing back against it.

Those telling us to back off on Obama are giving them free reign to whisper their establishment inertia unopposed.

  185. 190 — we’re going to have to put up with these right wing nut jobs as long as we live. I agree with Randi Rhodes, it’s a genetic thing.

  189. Jesse says:

  190. Skyhawk says:

Fairness Doctrine is an archaic law and would be in effective with today’s media. Repeal the Telecommunication Act to bust up ownership of radio and televisions outlets by a few companies.

  191. I love the latest sound effects! Particularly the riff of the fingernails on the harp (?).

  192. kar-hussein says:

196—no, I think it’s education. It’s been proven that people who get a college degree tend to become more liberal in their thinking because they go to college and learn about people unlike their own little clique.

  193. flombaye says:

in a way, it’s sad that rush’s favorite pop group, PRUSSIAN BLUE, have no talent, because you just know that they are relatively experienced.

  199. shāf says:

    #201 Right On, Skyhawk!

  200. 195 — it’s a sticky issue. DC is not a state for a reason, but at the same time the people of DC are unfairly unrepresented. I’d like to see a way forward that allows them to be equally enfanchised with the rest of us, but doesn’t put the nation’s capital under a state government.

  201. Honybearkelly -

I think Obama has invited it. You don’t run a campaign about change, CHANGE, CHANGE and then put the chicago school economist, establishment and DLC people in key positions…

He did that and the effect is to make all of us who want to the country to move left really keep an eye on him

  202. HoneyBearKelly says:

Speaking of the Fairness Doctrine was CNN bought by Murdoch while I wasn’t looking?

  203. flombaye says:

208: as ned beatty can attest, it’s not nice to fool with the primal forces of nature.

  204. #195, if Wyoming has 2 senators, with its tiny population (60,000 less than DC’s), then DC can have 2 senators, despite its tiny surface area. Why? Because land don’t vote.

  205. Bill in Philly says:

Is it my imagination or are the RW callers getting dumber and dumber?

  206. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

    ———————————————————————
    I’m not Chris or Jim.

I’m picking on Steph, becasue it’s fun to kick people when they’re down. ;-)

  207. straydogma says:

#203 correct, the smarter and more educated you are the more liberal.

  208. Bill in Philly says:

Tell Steph that Obama is brilliant and the more reasonable he behaves the more outrageous the other side behaves.

  209. Richard in DC says:

Shouldn’t we just start doing a MUCH better job busting up all these monopolies (in whatever form they take). Isn’t it part of the reason we’re in this economic mess too. All these stinking financial insitutions that are “too big to fail”. If they’re THAT big, bust ‘em UP!!!

  210. flombaye says:

217 – ’tis the dark side of technology.
    (see entry 7)

  211. straydogma says:

#203 that is in part why far right people attack universities calling them factories of liberal values.

  212. #213, it was inevitable. The Dem party ran an incredibly charismatic candidate, and that will inevitably lead to a strain of authoritarian following in his support. That’s the last thing Obama needs. He’s got the whole DC establishment pushing him backwards. We have to be behind him pushing him forward. It’s not disrespectful, it’s our job.

As Greenwald points out, that also means taking Moveon and Change for America away from the pure Obama loyalists.

  213. Juliet Hussein Bravo says:

Good morning, guys! and gals! Still catching up with work, so I’m in and out.

IMDB.com says Alice Ghostley also played officious busybody Miss Stephanie Crawford in the 1962 movie “To Kill a Mockingbird” (one of my all-time favorites). By the way, just about everybody was in that movie– the actor playing eccentric recluse (probably autistic in today’s parlance) Boo Radley, slumped behind the door in the final scenes of the movie, was Robert Duvall. :-)

  214. 203/219 — But who gets more educated? I know plenty of people who are decently well educated & smarter than me, dammit, who are right wingers. and when you say “education” what do you mean? I suppose you’d say that going to someplace like BYU or SMU means that you’re actually not getting an education.

    If that’s what you’d say, I’d say you’re prejudiced.

  215. Software Diplomat says:

    First:

The “twitch” was always associated with trying to do something good, but with some crazy unexpected result.

The “wave” always seemed to have more negative connotations, and was more associated with Endora. It seems to indicate something negative done on purpose, like turning Darin into a toad. There was also an I don’t really care feel to it, usually laced with a bit of anger.

The “snap” was associated with a simple change, and I feel like it was more associated with Uncle Arthur.

The “grand gesture” was associated with Maurice.

  216. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Is it my imagination or are the RW callers getting dumber and dumber?

    ———————————————————————
I don’t how they could get any dumber. It scares me to think about it.

  217. kar-hussein says:

    209—that may be true.

  218. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    I love this song!

  219. shāf says:

We’re all singing along, “Bark Park”!

  220. flombaye says:

224- actually, i was talking with john mccain after the election. the whole point of course was to make absolutely sure to get obama into office… mccain was getting worried by the vast sea of crazies who were just not catching on that his character was supposed to be too far out to consider. he said the obama team was running out of directions to take his craziness.

  221. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    :!:

  222. #226, that’s actually true. The support for liberalism comes from the low and the very high ends of the educational achievement spectrum, at least outside specific regions (rural and southern areas tend to be more conservative at the low end). The middle of the educational acheivement spectrum indoctrinates and invests people in the establishment, which makes them conservative.

  223. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Oh, it worked! :!:

  224. Software Diplomat says:

As for the previous caller that claimed that Stephanie was implying that “all” people who disagree with Obama are racists, based on Stephanie’s own personal experience (and mine too) that “some” of the Republicans she knows are racist, he was trying to expand her definition from “Some” to “All”. Any idea what logical fallacy this is? I know it is one, but I cannot remember which.

  225. straydogma says:

You know this problem with conservatives will always lead to frustration conversations/arguments because by definition conservatives believe that legacy and tradition are the best guide to what you should do going forward. This thought process is not dictated by thoughtfulness but stubbornness.

  226. so my ring tone is annoying? It sounds like an old phone actually ringing

  227. kar-hussein says:

226—I’m just saying that is a survey I heard of which indicated a trend. I have also known college educated Rethuglicans. Yes, it does depend on the college no doubt.

  231. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

203 that is in part why far right people attack universities calling them factories of liberal values.
    ———————————————————————
Does that include Liberty? Oh that’s right. Liberty is the Faux News of colleges.

  232. maddaune — no you can get a decent education at BYU and SMU it’s Liberty University, Patrick Henry College, Pensacola Christian College, etc.

  233. That would be so funny if all those Christian radio station had to offer rebuttals from Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, and everyone else.

  234. National Religious Broadcasters org should be SUED!

the name implies that they are ALL religions but they are only CHRISTIAN
Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans need not apply

  235. straydogma says:

#226 BYU or SMU means that you’re actually not getting an education.

Personally yes I would say that. These are not open universities that purpously expose its student to a wide amount of people and ideas and teach critical thinking to get well rounded free thinking person. They are colleges that have a closed curriculum with objectives of teaching certain things and purposelessly excluding others. Not letting knowledge on its own merit.

  236. flombaye says:

sounds like mr robertson’s nay burr hood.

  237. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    hethens!

  238. #244, actually the thugs mostly killed Indians (as they were themselves Indians). They strangled travelers to honor Kali.

  239. shāf says:

    Yay, heathens!

  243. flombaye says:

252 – ooh. my blonde! there i go projecting again.

  244. 249 — a lot of colleges have a slant one way or the other. I would definitely say I am at a lefty school.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, nor with what they teach at Brigham Young. Every education will start with some sort of cultural standpoint.

  253. Chris Hussein says:

254–No but it is distantly related to moose knuckle…

  254. 255 — that’s bullsh**. BYU is a very good school. Their curriculum is well rounded & they turn out fine thinkers. They also have an active Democratic organization on campus, actually.

  255. I prefer my cameltoes to be on a Bactrian (two lovely humps!)

  256. PJ says:

Republican-free day? I get two – Saturday and Sunday.

  257. straydogma says:

#258 well I may be biased in that I attend the larges university in the United States of America so you have no choice but to be exposed to every single viewpoint there is. Weather this is formal or informal its unavoidable. So my school cant actually have an agenda one way or any other, you have to find your self in and endless sea of thought presented here.

I’m not saying that Obama shouldn’t be criticized.
I work in the financial industry and know the POS that Geithner is.
Actually I’m very uncomfortable with all the Rubinoids that Obama has on his economic team.

However, we should give the guy a chance and not jump on him for every perceived slight to liberals.

Obama was never a leftie. He sang that bi-partisan song all through out his campaign. And now people are shocked (shocked!) that he’s acting like the centrist he is.

When FDR first took office he had a meeting with a bunch of liberals (and remember liberals in those days wanted to kill capitalism altogether) and they were going after him about the changes that needed to be made.
FDR responded to them “make me do it.”
He meant that those activists had to keep on his case not let him forget who put him in office.

  264. Well, he still stands too close to a furnace. The furnace is just Cheney’s hellmouth.

  265. 203: I was just going to make the same point that straydogma just did – the Repubs agree that educated people are more liberal but attribute it to indoctrination into marxism by pinko professors..

I know all my engineering, math and physics classes were heavily slanted toward the left.. Things like using the metric system. And Professor Burris, physics, kept steering us toward Wronskians and linearly independent equations, when we should have had our nose to the grindstone, in electron ballistics..

And, worst of all, we had it pounded in our head from the outset to use and trust the scientific method, accept the ideas of respected scientists who had spent their entire lives looking at “data” for such things as atmospheric chemistry.

Clearly, we were being programmed to be liberals.

  272. straydogma says:

#269 well my apologies if I am incorrect on BYU. I will admit that I have never attended there. I do know that right wing universities do exist that are attend by students that all come from the same background and have the same views and these views are then only reinforced by the staff. I have read articles about these colleges and how their founders created them to counter the perceived threat of “liberal” universities.

  317. kar-hussein says:

Star Trek movie with the whale space ship?
    Whales in Space. awesome.

  328. Well actually I need to give a great shout out and “thank you” to Rep. James McGovern and Gov. Deval Patrick .. I called the reps office and said no more tax cuts and restore infrastructure and cited playing highway slalom on I-95 trying to avoid the pot holes as an example

    that was last week

something must have happened, calls made, etc. because this week there have been crews on the stretch of I-95 I drive patching the holes

  329. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    352- Oh Snap!

  330. doubleg says:

What happened to Right Wing World? I just caught up with my podcasts for the week hadn’t heard it

  336. 356 — that’s the second greatest mystery in liberal talk radio this week!

  337. straydogma says:

#328 evolution can be even stranger. Not only do elephants and Wales share a terrestrial (land) ancestor but drum roll please. Elephants have a direct aquatic ancestor related to manatees.

thus they went from land to sea and back again.

  342. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    warm it up!

  343. shāf says:

#365 Yep. They’ll be on in Hour Three.

  344. 364 hephalumps can’t figgure out where they wanna hang out.

  345. straydogma

    well that explains Sean Manatee

  346. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

367- What do you mean, is she not on? I listened last week and there was a filler host? I usually listen to my podcast at 3

  347. shāf says:

#369 Yep. My guess is that they needed a hotter cup of tea of the Improbability Drive.

  348. 369 I keep thinking “whales in space”
to the tune of “girls on film”
yes, whale in space bad in Hitchhiker. sudden ending.

  349. Skyhawk says:

    367 – Here’s what I found. http://ltradio.blogspot.com/

  350. No Repulbicans do NOT .. they want us to suffer more

  352. straydogma says:

  353. 375 mashup! hotter cup of tea/Warm It Up

  354. Hmmm. lost the intertubes for quite a while, missed SPARTA entirely. Congrats to Skyhawk.

  355. Maybe RWW next hour? I know O’Reilly and Hannity have been their usual complete asses, I see them getting KO’ed on MSNBC every night.

And I want RWW, SUN, and TT back where I can download and save them as MP3s, not just play them on the widget.

    Whine, whine..

  356. shāf says:

Dick Morris needs to talk carefully when discussing Stimulus. He’s practically drooling.

  357. capt says:

  358. shāf says:

I’ll be back in a bit, need to hop on a conference call.

  359. 374 — Randi has not been on the air since Wednesday last week. There’s a note on the Nova M page vaguely referring to “technical problems”. I went to her message board and found that there’s a rumor going around that Randi is just going to be doing her show on her local West Palm Beach station & there was a link to a notice of a lawsuit betweeen her manager Manzo & Nova M.

Who knows, but it doesn’t sound good.

  360. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

387- I hate when work gets in the way

  361. straydogma says:

Seriously though I joke about Randi because deep down I am worried. I don’t want to see her show disappear.

I was told. And this really did come from high
level, rich-guy VP Corporate stuff I just happened
through no virtue of my own to get to see. I got
nothin to throw in I’m freaking broke and hoping
    I get a meager $125 this week so I can afford a

  366. Okay, I have a lunch at 11:30, and zero time to contribute to this live blog. :(

Have a good weekend everyone, and see you Monday (or Tuesday, for those who are lucky enough to be off work on Monday).

  367. Esmeralda! how’d they know my secret pet name for Steph?

  368. capt says:

    Ciao MTL!

We’ll miss ya until we see you again.

  369. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

Straydogma- I just read Randi’s message board. Talks that she moved to DC, didn’t she just move to Florida?

  370. straydogma says:

I am not much for conspiracies but… lately with things I have seen going on in liberal radio. I am starting to wonder if something is going on behind the scenes.

  371. anybody buy this that two satellite accidentally ran

  372. straydogma says:

  373. shāf says:

#395 See ‘ya Mike! Have a great weekend.

  375. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

    Mark –

    Ver are your nucleaar wessels?

    ———————————————————————
    Double dumbass on you!

  376. kar-hussein says:

The caller complaining about rescuing homeowners is missing some key points.

    1. Many of these people who were sold these 0 down, ballooon payment loans did not know what they were buying. They didn’t understand the paperwork and their mortgage broker didn’t explain it to them.

    2. Others who signed up for these subprime loans were told that their increasing house price would allow them to refinance in 2 years. They were not told that the market could also correct itself.

    3. The caller misses the fact that when home prices fall to ridiculous levels, as they have in Ohio and Indiana where you can buy a trashed house for $5,000 or less, that hurts the entire neighborhood. Many trashed/abandoned homes in a neighborhood brings down the quality of life for everyone, even though they had nothing to do with this mortgage mess.

    4. KEY POINT: the BANKS created these bundled-mortgage shares they sold all over the world. This was a BANKER’s scheme, not a homeowner scheme.

Since it was a Banker Scheme, a giant banker ponzi scheme, the BANKS should be punished, not the consumers.

  377. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

    Excellent points, kar.

  380. straydogma says:

398 actually thats news to me.

  381. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Straydogma- I just read Randi’s message board. Talks that she moved to DC, didn’t she just move to Florida?

    ———————————————————————
Maybe she did elope with Howard.

  382. Skyhawk says:

399- Randi did mention in her show she was thinking about moving to DC to be closer to what’s going on. So maybe…

  384. demdame says:

#400 – It’s the first alien attack wave. They just don’t want us to know. Forget Independence Day, it’s really going to be President’s Day. Will Smith, STAT!

  385. capt says:

Since it was a Banker Scheme, a giant banker ponzi scheme, the BANKS should be punished, not the consumers.

    100% spot on!

#405 Agreed (on all points), Kar.

    greatest long con in history.

  389. Tampa Mark says:

My wife bought a house before we were married sadly at the top of the bubble and I bought a house a few years before. We got married and now we cant sell either house so we are stuck paying for to mortgages. I need to refinance my house but both our houses’ values are way lower than what we owe. We are freaking stuck! That guy calls and wants no help for people who are in these types of situations he just wants us to loose one or all of our homes so house prices will fall even more??? So even more people will be caught in the same situation. By the way I am an engineer and she is a nurse we can afford the homes but it is puting a lot of finacial stress on us….

  390. straydogma says:

405 good work and yup spot on.

  391. kar-hussein says:

394–maybe we should create a StephSpace Safe House somewhere in America?

All the live bloggers and listeners who fall on hard times could come to the StephSpace Safe House and live on general relief and food stamps until they get jobs?

Steph could buy the house. She could buy one for $50,000 in many parts of the country. It would be a great write off for her and a great PR gimmick all in one.

    I have a very creative mind…..

  392. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

    421-I’m there.

  396. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

Komadore 64 in her box? That Stephanie MIller is a loose broad.

  397. Tampa Mark says:

I only wanted to stay in my house for a little while so my mortgage broker told me to go for a 5-year interest only loan and since I have excellent credit I can either sell it for a profit or refinance. No way did I think it would be $20k less than what I paid for it and no bank will refinance it.

  398. 421 Yes! I was just wondering if I can
get foodstamps. A Bridge Card. then I
can go to McDonald’s and get an Arch Card
    and I’ll be stylin’.
Maybe Momma will let me take her to MickeyDee’s

  399. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

I’m going to spend Valentine’s Day watching the “Married With Children” marathon on Spike TV.

  400. capt says:

    I have a very creative mind…..

Indeed you do! And with or without Steph, the idea is golden.

  401. straydogma says:

I have a friend that is in a similar situation. I feel bad for people that are getting a divorce in this climate to were neither party can afford the house on its own, they cant sell it (in this climate) and end up stuck.

  402. kar-hussein says:

419—There are many people stuck like you two. Most only have one house, but many are totally upside down in their values.

  403. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

you will be walking away, unless he wants to take
the hit. He can lose 20% or everything. Plus you
can quit paying taxes and the mortgage and stay in
for a year free. Your credit is gonna get screwed
either way. Is there anything else you can do? I
don’t think so. Sit still and they won’t even be
    using any grease…

  407. capt says:

  408. kar-hussein says:

432—I get so frustrated here in SoCal when I see these homeless families with kids and all the vacant condos and houses.

It seems the city/county would be wise to buy these up at auction, put $5,000 into each of them to clean them up, and let the homeless families live in them.

It’s like Match Game. I see a need, I see an empty house that can’t sell. Match them up. Why can’t city leaders see that?

  409. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

I almost forgot to mention this. You can get the book about Steph’s father, “Bill Miller: Do You Know Me? A Daughter Remembers” from Amazon. It probably makes for good reading in the bathroom.

A few years ago NYC was hiring its new police recruits that even with salary they could qualify for Food Stamps if they had a kid or two.
    A horrible commentary on NYC.

  424. straydogma says:

#440 – imagine how we feel here in Ohio with the same thing going on. (our housing market got crushed hard by the way) And on top of that with the blistering record cold weather we had a few weeks ago. Empty house.. & homeless people freezing to death under bridges.

  446. wow . my blog/dairy post yesterday is precient .. also steph and mooks – I learned 2 things yesterday which will go into a new post

    1. the former Boston Progressive Talk radio station turned to Salsa music’s ratings are so low now that they’ve disappeared from the ratings book (thanks Paul)

    2. Clear Channel is in financial trouble

It’s not about money.. if it were the salsa station would have returned to progressive talk where they HAD ratings

  447. ProducerChris says:

    To Richard in DC…

DUDE!!! Right Wing World is still there! It’s strung throughout the entire show. Or did you miss the Dick Morris and Hannity soundbites we just played?

I swear, some people really don’t listen to the show.

  448. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

what’s with the repeating stuff during the same show???? How about some UNrepeated RWW??

  465. kar-hussein says:

457—yeah, I don’t understand that. I hope this money going to the states will help them deal with the homeless.

However, we all have to contact our city/county leaders and share these ideas with them. I used to think that these leaders had all the answers and were better educated than myself. Lately I’m realizing that no one can know everything and what we all learn just by coping with life day-to-day is stuff that our leaders, many of whom have never struggled much, don’t know.

By the way, I did send my letter to the mayor of Detroit to tell him about these:

If Stephanie is anti capitalism why would she be advertising for chevy pickup trucks and the buick enclave? these right wing folks are just plain nuts!

  469. Shane-O says:

    #474 & #487 – fair use

  470. How do you log on with your StephSpace ID? I’m logged in but I don’t show up as Getzcool. Is this another “Can George fix this” situation or do I need to do something else? Thanks!

  471. kar-hussein says:

    Frangela–stuck in traffic?

  472. shāf says:

Right Wing World? You’re soaking in it!

Conference call done, I’m ready to enjoy the rest o’ the show.

  473. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

A 9/11 widow died in that plane crash. Geez!

  474. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

    506-how sad.

  475. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    506- Yes, along with 43 others :(

Be afraid – be very afraid.

  477. Clear Channel is suffering from a very severe form of indigestion.

    Considering what they’ve done for/to radio……

I listen to a station once in a while going home. Totally listener supported, no advertising at all (not that an Adult Standards station could sell any). The owner comes on once a year to start a PBS style begging. His budget is about 80k for this year, HALF of that is for music rights fees. A real blowtorch at 250 watts, so its range is to Boston’s Rt 128. His ratings are far above the salsa station on its best day.

  478. Singles Awareness Day is easier on men than on women. After I get out of Gaelic class, I’ll probably home improve and see a flick.

  479. Shane-O says:

Hoyer. Steney Hoyer. (:tips hat to Shaf:)

  480. shāf says:

I thought Steny Hoyer would be introduced with the “If you don’t want to party, then you should go home…” rap. ;)

  481. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

    Steny “Warm Chuckle” Hoyer

  482. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

Two of the three people in the house when the plane hit were able to escape without major injury? Amazing.

  483. shāf says:

    #512 Ah, you’ve seen the photo. ;)

  484. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    Shaf- Ha!

  485. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

  486. Richard in DC says:

#480 Sorry Chris. Just not paying attention this morning (stupid JOB!!!). Keep up the AWESOME work!!!!

  487. demdame says:

Steny Hoyer is a friend to business and federal employees. White collar, blue collar, he’s there.

  488. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

I really believe Gregg planned it this way.

  489. kar-hussein says:

    511—you’re probably right about that.

  490. Richard in DC says:

#488 ProducerChris yelled at ME!! I feel so scolded. Gotta watch my Ps & Qs going forward.

  491. kar-hussein says:

515—when I came home from choir rehearsal last night and turned on CNN the news was all about that crash. Very sad. I think we were hoping for miracles every time now.

  492. Liberal Hussein Smurf says:

Gregg dropped out because he doesn’t have a warm chuckle like Steny Hoyer.

  493. straydogma says:

#480 ProducerChris thanks for the explanation. I apologize if we got a little crazy here. I heard the bit thought the show but I think in the light of all the progressive radio stations disappearing and the Randi thing, I think we are getting bit paranoid. We where just worried that you guys may have been having pressure from above to change your programming.

    Sorry if we offended.

  494. kar-hussein says:

523–what did he yell at you about?

  495. Sarah in Santa Cruz says:

Peter, how is your Gaelic class going?

  496. Joe Bageant, p. 96, “Deer Hunting With Jesus”:

“Noticing that Carolyn had four different kinds of “Support Our Troops” magnetic ribbons on her new Toyot, I said: “Damn, Caroyln, couldnt’ you find space for another ribbon?”
“Actually,” she signed, “there was another one, but somebody stole it – trying to make it look like they donated, I guess.”
    “Donated to what?”
“The money from the magnetic ribbons goes to Support Our Troops,” she replied.
    “Who told you that?”
…”Why else would they make ‘em?”
I looked at her broad girlish-grown-older face & curly salt & pepper hair and I saw whas not ignorance -though that was there too-but trust in some nonexistent system of ‘the way things ought to be.” … The disconnect in this country can be so damned stunning sometimes that you don’t know whether to laugh or cry, or what to say in the Face of It.

In four hours, Çarolyn will walk through the doors of the concrete city of night & attach Rubbermaid safety gear onto that beautiful hard body. and she, like Tom & Nance, suspending in the crushing silence inside her noise-protection earmuffs,

  500. #528, slower than I’d like, but that’s my own fault for not spending much time on it outside class. I moved all my students but one to a single day, that frees up my evenings from constant interruption, which was killing both my study and my own practice.

  501. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

Richard- We all share your pain, if he yeslls at you, he yells at all of us. A piece of me just died :-P

  502. #532, rock! Keep me up to speed on it.

  503. Richard in DC says:

#527 I might have exagerated a tad. More like a stern scolding. I was questioning the existence of R.W.W. I guess I’m still grumpy that it isn’t in the first section fo the show like it used to always be.

  504. Chris Hussein says:

    531–AMEN!! Capt, amen…

  505. pjkool says:

I hope the Democrats grow a pair when it comes to health care. They should let the Republicans stall health care and stand there on the senate floor and tell the American people why they don’t need better health care. Just in time for the 2010 election. Do the Democrats have the nuts to do it? Maybe not without new leadership in the senate.

  506. No loss in DC. The station’s signal was AWFUL.

  512. Liberal Smurf, Chris is stealin’ your material!

And to all the rest of you bloggoes, ditto! Wait – not ditto (bad word, baaaad word). Should have ended with ‘, also’. Wait – must not end sentence with ‘also’. Dang you Rush and Sarah! You have seriously affected my grammatical stylings.

I think my allergy meds have messed with me today.

  520. straydogma says:

545 stealing? I am sure smurf gave it willingly. Personally I would be honored if Chris was ever to use any of the dribble I spew here in the blog. Why?
    Why?

  525. Laura in Binghamton, NY says:

    #551- Oh, terrific!

  526. straydogma says:

The caller is right nobody is listening to steph… like you caller. If nobody listens to progressive radio why did you call steph? hmmm.

  527. #547, once you get past pronunciation, it’s not bad. It’s nothing like Russian. The dative and genitive cases form pretty easily, and there are only 12 irregular verbs (including 2 versions of “to be”). You just have to learn certain idiomatic expressions that literally translate to things like “I’m a’ thinking”, “I’m at the closing of the door”, “I’m in my sitting”, “I am going out for to dance”. The irony being, most of these odd grammatical constructions have made their way into songs, so they’re not too hard to remember.

  528. capt says:

    More Zombie chow?

What is with these callers? Are the callers making a coordinated effort to pretend the old memes are all true?
