President-elect Barack Obama will take part in a community renovation project in the Washington, D.C. area today to honor Dr. Martin Luther King. Michelle Obama, as well as Joe and Jill Biden will also take part in the project. Today is the federal holiday commemorating the birthday of King.

• Thousands of people packed the National Mall yesterday for a free concert featuring big stars such as U2, Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Beyonce. President-elect Barack Obama addressed the roaring crowd after the music acts, saying that it was a “celebration of American renewal.”

They came from around the world, braving bitterly cold temperatures, security perimeters and large crowds in the streets of the nation’s capital to see one man make American history. Even while Barack Obama was about 40 miles to the north on Saturday, they descended on the National Mall, where more than 2 million people are expected to gather for tomorrow’s inauguration.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said yesterday that authorities are not aware of any credible threat to the inauguration. An estimated 8,000 police officers will be on duty, along with almost a thousand FBI personnel, and 10,000 National Guard troops to provide security for the event.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and The Arizona Cardinals won their conference titles yesterday and will meet in The Super Bowl in two weeks in Tampa, Florida.

Scooter - we have a new blog now for Jan. 20! See you over there.

Hello scooter! I had to take the puppies out for their morning constitutional, so sorry for the delayed greeting.

Yeah, let's get this party started!!

Good Barack Obama Morning! No new sandbox yet for Tuesday, so I'm going to try blogging here. It's 17 degrees and clear in Maryland. Hubby left for work in DC about an hour ago. He's allowed for a 3 hour commute in case the roads and metro are jammed (they are).

Israel has done covert actions like placing a cell phone with a bomb in it to Yehiya 'the engineer' Ayash. Israel has poisoned Khaled Mashaal, the exiled not elected leader of Hamas. The former King of Jordan, at peace with Israel at the time, prevailed on the USA to pressure Israel to deliver an antidote. During the first intifada between 1987 and 1992 Israel passed out bombs to children that resembled chocolate bars. One of the victims was pictured in From Stones to Statehood by Phyllis Bennis that is probably kept out of print by the Israel academic lobby groups that pressured the publisher of Joel Kovel's Overcoming Zionism. Those were 'surgical strikes' or 'pinpoint targeting.' What Israel has done in Gaza since Dec 27, 2008 and ending Jan 18 is responding with disproportionate force no matter what Lanny Davis said in hour 2. Disproportionate force means force with effects on people not involved with the military target.

In return for some Palestinian political presence in Jerusalem Israelis should be allowed access to Biblical history sites in the West Bank like Masada, Sarah's Tomb in Hebron and the cave where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947.

k to the g - Thanks. It really is true - you can make a difference, even if you don't have money.

ciao! I think that MLK and everyone else who worked so hard through the centuries will be so proud tomorrow. There is still work to do, but we can celebrate what we have done & work to make the world better.

I want to feel elated!

Bye bye everyone! Happy Last Day of Bush Abomination! Welcome Day Before Obama Nation!

Sorry to have missed some Livebloggers at the show. If you looked up in the balcony and saw a girl with a "1-20-09 The end of an error" shirt it was probably me.

Ciao Jan!

Yes, yes a thousand times YES!

YAY for all of us!

Gotta go! You all have a fabulous day!

Mr. Sham wow is now shilling for this insta-chopper device. He does the "you have to call in the next 20 minutes cause we can't do this all day" line.

They would come up with phone show NOW after I've had to move to a pay per use phone because we can't afford a regular cell phone now.

Are we getting a repeat feed? That Energizer call founds familiar?

Am I just a little giddy over MLK and BHO?

I think I've been anxious waiting for tomorrow - now I am getting excited!

WOO HOO!

I really want to get one of those Barrack Obama bobble heads.

yeah let's take credit for that one great big hospital (cesspit, sewer because it was built with substandard construction via a no bid contract) Laura Bush wanted built ...

instead of the many smaller hospitals spread out of more distance giving greater access to all that Iraqis wanted built.
