oh, dear

I think ProducerChris is on vacation from his vacation...no podcast today. :(

Can somebody nudge the podcast upload machine thing? It seem to be stuck or something...

*sigh* Couldn't contribute a lick today. :(

See you Friday!

Ya know, official drunk slut of the SMS, in the days of strange fruit, the whole town would show up with picnic lunches for lynchings, and pose for photos with the kiddies, and they'd make postcards with the name of the town. People collect the postcards. The rhetoric in churches against LGBT people today is every bit as mainstream as racist rhetoric was in the South the 1920s. Of course nobody in the church called for lynchings. Don't tell me I don't know about the kind of town Rick Warren is from either, I grew up behind the Orange Curtain.

I think to claim Warren’s church is the Klan is to not understand what the Klan is

Who claimed that? Somebody on the radio? I missed it. To pretend that churches that preach homobigotry are not harbors of homobigotry who nurture the sociopaths responsible for fatal hate crimes would be obtuse.

Who needs the Klan when you've got churches?

When Warren’s church starts lynching gays, then they can be called the Klan.

That was pretty clueless. Whatever church it is, the pastor gets up there and declaims, (sorry Shakespeare) “Who will rid me of this troublesome [homosexual menace],” and the skinheads in the flock are now rolling gays for Jesus.

"The one permanent emotion of the inferior man is fear - fear of the unknown, the complex, the inexplicable. What he wants beyond everything else is safety."

I love when you pick up the phone and it's a recording saying "please hold the line"

Of course she claimed to know she wasn't pregnant. Pregnant women aren't allowed on roller coasters.

That is some awesome reflux!

My brother has kids 7 and 4. They do the Santa thing, but the good gifts come from Mom and Dad and Aunt Amy. Santa leaves coloring books and boring stuff under the tree.

THis is not SSSPPPPAAAARRRRTTTTTTAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

because it's late and we ain't gonna get there.

I can't even see Sparta from here.

Thanks for #140. There's some interesting thing to try on Christmas Day when everything is closed.

Yo all! If Obama realy wants feedback from us, let the inauguration be the forum. Freedom is about the right to protest, so protest away. Maybe complete silence before, during, and after Warren would speak the loudest.

huh. weird.

My iTunes loses the Stephcast from time to time, and consistently replaces it with Pentangle. I can find no explanation for it, but it's happened several times today.

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

"The truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear."

~ Herbert Agar

Warren and the H8rs have the problem and the truth would free them from those negative feelings. Why do these people think they can control the lives of others? As if they get to approve or disapprove of others? They often can't control themselves and the idea that their authority come from their religion is offensive to me.

The man who melted his house reminds me of a (fun?) fact. Hurricane Isabel caused many deaths on the east coast. All of the deaths in Maryland were caused by people using generators (after the storm knocked out the power) indoors, causing carbon monoxide poisoning.
Thinning the herd...

There's always at least one local story each winter about someone starting a fire while thawing frozen pipes. Idiot, yes. Uncommonly stupid, not so much.

Hmmm, I like the 1040-bandit. Klassy!

give to your local food bank!

Keep the special butter labeled, OK?

Hey, I just got an email from Michelle Obama!

She says hi! Also, give to your local food bank! :D

136 -- I hope I'm not getting anybody in trouble with this, and remember, I'm not advocating, I'm just providing information:

I think maybe, just maybe the Warren thing could be a very good thing, maybe even one of the best things.

If Barack sees and feels the backlash, the insult, the pain and hate people feel - maybe this will form a stronger more public support for LBGT issues including marriage and all civil rights?

I think it matters less that Warren can charm a rock star or other people - there are WAY too many people that feel hate from him. He might not mean to be so hurtful but he can only claim ignorance of the pain he inflicts for a while. Sooner or later even Rick will not be able to deny the pain people feel from him however well intentioned or loving

#136 Dare you ask, Carol? ;)

to people not wanting to address "the Rick Warren kerfluffle"

i dedicate this quote:

"To predict the behavior of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence."

madduane, how do I make special butter?
